Response from the owner We were surprised and sorry to read your review and hear you were disappointed with your stay. We wish you had let us know whilst you were here and we would have rectified / explained anything right away (our house is just across the garden from the lodge and we always make a point of telling everyone to come and knock on our cottage door should you need anything at all), but as you never spoke to us – even to let us know you were leaving – so we were completely unaware that you were dissatisfied. Following your comments, we have since put in new glasses, additional utensils and new pillows in lodge. We have had numerous comments on how comfortable the bed is, so this must have been a personal preference, but we will make sure this is something we keep an eye on. The mattress has been checked and has no soiling. It is always covered with a mattress protector which is washed on every visit. We do give full instructions on how to use the compost loo (which uses 100th of the water of a conventional loo – hence it is so fantastic for the environment and such a positive for eco-minded people), but unfortunately our cleaner informed us that after your stay, they saw that you have been putting sawdust in the front part and allowing the back to get wet – this may have accounted for the smell, as we have never had any complaints previously and the barrel is changed regularly. With regards to the hot tub – we do clearly explain - both online and again in person as we did with you - that the log-fired hot-tub is an experience that requires time - it is an energy–in/energy–out endeavour – it does indeed take 5 hours to heat up (sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the outside temperature) when you use it for the first time and then you can top it up on subsequent days with a shorter fire to enjoy again). As you rightly say this is not for everyone but those that do indulge always rave about the experience. A flick-switch place this is definitely not we design luxury at low cost to the planet, and so do not subscribe to energy-hungry electric hot-tubs, from which you also don’t get the lovely smell of cedar wood as you sit in it under the stars in the forest clearing. The hot tub is emptied, scrubbed and re-filled on EVERY visit, so it was definitely clean water. It also has a bromine filter for additional hygiene. You mention that your girls were disappointed that they didn’t take Elvis for a walk or cuddle, which again surprised us, as most guests just knock on the door and ask. He is 12 years old now so often stays in the house with us, but is the most popular member of the family with all our guests – who always interact with him freely. We are often told that the photos don’t do the lodge justice, and we will endeavour to ensure that this continues to be the case, being mindful of all comments – good and otherwise as we greatly value all feedback. We wish you well in the future that you find accommodations that perfectly suit your needs and reassure anyone worried about the points you have raised that anything of note (such as more glasses and kitchen utensils) has been fully rectified. All warmest Rachel, Robbie, River & Elvis x

“Very peaceful, romantic, quiet and secluded”

Reviewed 27 Dec 2016

We loved our stay at Sika lodge. It was a very peaceful place to stay and the owner was very welcoming. We loved the log burning hot tub which got to a lovely temperature. We went to the silent woman pub very close by and had a meal whilst sat opposite a burning fire which was lovely. We also visited monkey world which was close by and, went horse riding on the beach a short drive from the lodge. We enjoyed walking the dogs in the woods with our own private entry to this. The fire at the lodge kept the whole place lovely and warm. We would definitely stay again. Perfect for a relaxing and romantic weekend away with your loved one.

“Superb break”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2016

We work 6-day/80-hour weeks and this was our first break this year. We didn't know in detail exactly what an 'eco-lodge' was so made the booking with a little trepidation. However, the owners are really lovely, down-to-earth people and made us very welcome and explained everything. Although we live and work in N. Wales we used to live in Dorset and still have friends there, consequently we were torn between taking a well-earned rest but also wanting to travel around and meet friends. In the end we got the balance right which comprised of 'chilling' in the morning and out in the afternoon. The lodge is in a great location and every day I walked through the back gate and got to know Wareham Forest better each day. The visiting wildlife was also wonderful. I would highly recommend Sika Lodge to anyone wanting a relaxing break.
