Description from manager

Description

If the dates show available they are. This property is one I manage through my holiday letting agency in Woolacombe called Holiday Home Hunter. To book you need to do that on my own website as I only advertise on here.

Surrounded by the beautiful National Trust coast, with amazing views of the sea looking out to Baggy Point, Old Bakery Cottage is in a superb location for making the most of North Devon’s amazing coastline. This characterful yet spacious cottage is in the heart Mortehoe village and provides a fantastic base both for local beaches and for walkers with the South West Coast path just yards away. The award winning beaches of Woolacombe Bay are within walking distance or short hop by car. A 10 minute walk from the cottage across Morte Point takes you to Grunta Beach, a great alternative for rock pooling and sheltered bathing. The South West Coastal path allows you to head down to Morte Point to watch a resident colony of seals or towards Bull Point Lighthouse to Rockham Beach and beyond to Lee Bay

The property itself is full of character making the most of its position and the available views with a spacious and light first floor open plan living area with a lounge and dining area and a terrace looking out to the sea. The kitchen is at one end of the space upstairs with cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, slim-line dishwasher, toaster, kettle etc. The large living/dining room has a gas-flame effect fire, 2 leather sofas, dining table and chairs, wall mounted Smart TV and Bluetooth speaker/docking station with USB charger. High speed Wi-Fi (recently installed) is available throughout the cottage.

The bedrooms are on the ground floor. There are two double bedrooms (one with small en-suite w/c & shower) and a third bedroom containing 3ft (adult sized) bunks. There is a separate Utility/drying room with washing machine (no dryer) and a fitted bathroom.

Mortehoe is a charming village set up on the cliffs above Morte Point and Woolacombe. It features in the Doomsday book and its lovely church goes back to Norman times. It has two great pubs serving locally produced food, a Fish & Chips shop, a tea room, a Post Office, a village store, a bistro, a 13th century church, a gift shop and the local Mortehoe Museum. There is also an under 11’s play area in the village.

These are all a short stroll away from the Cottage. Slightly further afield the major surf beaches of North Devon await, championship standard golf may be played at Saunton with a 9 hole course just 5 minutes awayand horse riding is also available locally.

Bed linen & one bath/one hand towel per person provided - please bring beach towels. There is a travel cot and high chair if required. One well behaved dog is welcome. House rules explained on booking.

Parking is in the local Mortehoe village car park, just a short stroll away. You can drop off and unload at the cottage. There is a good value visitors parking permit that covers the village car park and 23 other local council car parks in the area. Four or seven day seasonal parking permits can be purchased in advance via credit/debit card and operate electronically from the North Devon Concil website

All in all a truly lovely place with a special atmosphere and one of the only places with sea views in Mortehoe. We hope you’ll love it!

“Face values!”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2023

Its a lovely cottage with lots of space and light. Good position, although parking is an issue. On face value it appeared clean but could be improved.

Response from the manager Thanks for the review and constructive comments which I will relay to cleaners. We've never had that mentioned before so maybe a one of blip as they are usually very good cleaners. Parking is in Mortehoe car park just minutes from the cottage and my current August guests have been this year and last and never had a problem with the parking. The confusion might be that in the past guests could park near the cottage but that changed when the holiday cottages opposite needed more parking.
