“Excellent Accommodation”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2022

Our apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable week in one of our favourite places. There was peace and quiet but we were close to all the amenities of the town. We enjoyed walking in the countryside and visiting nearby National Trust properties. We ate in the town cafes, Hotel/Inn and from take aways, all good. We slept well and returned relaxed and looking forward to our next stay in Alston.

“Naworth Alston”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2020

Excellent property in Alston , centrally located with good off road parking. Stayed a week with my wife and mother in law. The property was spotlessly clean and owner very conscientious to make sure we were all safe during these strange times, very helpful with communication and comprehensive information supplied. This lovely property has two bedrooms, one downstairs which was ideal for mum, it has plenty-of room with good heating if you need it. It also has wi-fi a washing machine and TV. Lovely and quiet in the evenings. The town has pretty much everything you need, the Co-op is two mins walk, there is a also a large petrol station with an attached Spar shop, a couple of pubs, fish and chip shop and a number of small local shops. This is a great base for exploring the stunning local scenery, would be more than happy to stay here again.

“Lovely property needing some updating”

Response from the owner We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Alston but are very disappointed to hear that you found some aspects of our property unsatisfactory. We always ask our customers to complete a feedback form before they depart, so that we can deal with problems as promptly as possible. It is a pity that we were away ourselves when you stayed, so we weren’t able to meet you. Your friend who stayed in the cottage with you, who had visited previously and was keen to return, filled in the form and didn’t raise any of your concerns. She just wrote ‘had another great stay in Naworth. So relaxing. Love this place’. On our feedback form we invite guests to report any problems that they experience during their stay. Your friend reported on a glass that had been broken during your stay but you did not take the opportunity to draw our attention to these matters that you are now making public on TripAdvisor. You stayed towards the end of our season when we annually assess our accommodation, and spring clean the cottages, making any replacements and improvements that are necessary. The children of the previous guests spilt what appeared to be Ribena on the floor mat you refer to, and our cleaners had only the day to clean the cottages ready for you and your friend, so the stain you report on is in fact a watermark from our attempt to remove a much worse stain. Yes, we have a hairline crack across a small number of tiles in the hallway, but no guests have commented on this before. The tiles are not discoloured. They are a ‘heritage design’ which we chose to complement the cottage/contemporary atmosphere of our cottage. Yes, we have a very small defect on the worktop at the edge of the kitchen sink but you almost have to find this by feeling with your fingers as it’s barely visible. Each year the soft furnishings are dry-cleaned in our quiet period over the winter. However, your comment on the lounge furniture being out of date is your personal opinion which is not shared by other guests. It is a tried and tested design that has been around for some years and is still on the market and selling well. Each year we are assessed by Visit Britain and since 2008 when we first opened, all our cottages have been consistently assessed as four star gold. We strive to continue to maintain this high standard. We do value all our guests’ comments and we will be ensuring that Naworth is in great condition for our guests for the festive season and beyond.

“Complete Cumbrian Comfort and Relaxation”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2012

We have stayed twice at Naworth in Feb and Sept - returning in Sept following an excellent snow covered Feb. Sonia and Peter who's property it is were excellent and very welcoming. Naworth is beautifully decorated (and designed by Peter an architect). The kitchen is comfortable for meals and warm even in winter. The sitting room has a gorgeous view of Alston's main church and graveyard - relaxation in plenty watching various birds hopping from tree to tree. We happily lay on the comfortable sofa watching birds or watching Cumbrian dvds provided by our hosts. We spent many nights soaking in the voluminous bath followed by watching stars through the bedroom roof window! We liked that Sonia and Peter have a "green" approach to life. It is quiet and restful in this part of Alston and with easy access to the Co-op, local health food shop and organic baker what more is needed? Alston also has many enjoyable local walks but is also within close reach to great historical sites. We have been to Alston 8 times (other cottages and also b&bs) and we believe Naworth to be the best we have found. We could not recommend it more highly and the flexibility and kindness of Sonia and Peter are an additional plus.
