“Everything you expect” My wife and I recently stayed at Casa de Cinema for 10 nights. It was awesome!! We chose the rainy season to avoid the tourists and were not disappointed. If you're looking for the nightlife and normal touristy locations that you can walk to, then this is not the place for you. However, if it's secluded nature with modern convenience you're after, then this is exactly what you're looking for! About the house: It's a great space with a nice open living/dining area that opens on to a huge porch overlooking the pool. We spent most of our time on the porch enjoying the cool nights and listening to nature. Two separate bedrooms each with their own bath was nice. With just the two of us, we used one as a dressing room and we each had our own bathroom. The power drops out for a second or two maybe twice a day, but that's the nature of Costa Rican living. It really didn't get in the way of anything. The pool has plants surrounding it for privacy and blocks the view of the ocean, but you can just walk up the stairs to the cinema (huge covered patio) and have your morning coffee with a view. About the area: The house is a few (6) kilometers from Dominical up a mountain road. The road is not paved, but gets graded twice a year so it's easy to drive. We drove it in both dry conditions and heavy rain and had no problems. There are lots of howler monkeys in the area that move around daily. They hung out in the trees about 150ft from the house on several mornings! Awesome!! Also, there's a great waterfall and swimming hole only 30 feet from the road up. Great hidden spot! About the hosts: Toby and his wife Kim were great! They live in a house up the hill and were extremely nice and accommodating to anything we needed. The microwave went out and 3 hours after we notified them, it was replaced. Toby's a musician and has a little recording studio at the cinema. Kim is an artist and has her studio up the hill from their house. Summary: This is a fantastic place to stay!!

Casa Toucan: Secluded Jungle Setting with Ocean View & 40 foot Pool
Uvita house
2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 7
“Rainforest Central” My family and I were in casa toucan for a week during the month of July. It was an amazing experience. You must have a 4x4 to get up there. The way up is very steep but that is of course since the house has an amazing view and location in the rainforest overlooking the ocean. Even when it rains it is amazing to be there. You will be woken up by howler monkeys sometimes which is all part of the adventurous stay! I highly recommend this gorgeous home with many amenities. All you need is some food and yourself!

“Fabulous secluded house, fun hosts, and a killer view” My wife and I spent three wonderful days here while traveling through southern Costa Rica. What we loved most was the house's open-air design and its mountainside seclusion. The home was built to capitalize on a stunning ocean view, which you get from the kitchen, outdoor patio, upstairs balconies, and the master bedroom. Michele, the owner, pointed out that she could have added Pacific sunsets to the view but preferred to preserve the towering trees that block the western horizon. Good choice. That kind of preservation-minded development is exactly what we need more of -- especially in paradise destinations like Uvita. With three bedrooms, Casa Uvita was definitely more casa than the two of us needed. But for the price it was great to have such a spacious place to ourselves. The house is brand new, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated. Michele was an energetic and hands-on host, helping us line up stand-up paddle boarding lessons and making fantastic recommendations on beaches to visit and restaurants to check out. She even agreed to pick up fresh-caught red snapper for us while running errands in nearby Dominical then cooked us a wonderful meal. In exchange she only asked that we provide the head of the fish and any leftover fillets to the men at work on her second house next door. No problem. One of the men, Carlos, is the full-time groundskeeper, handyman, and chef at Casa Uvita. By the time the howler monkeys got around to waking us up each morning, Carlos would already be tip-toeing through the kitchen preparing us strong coffee, platters of fresh fruit, omelets or his signature arepas. I can also vouch for his piña coladas -- killer. Ask Carlos to lead you up the mountain to the waterfall and have a crisp morning swim. Now that's pura vida. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Villa with partial sea views surrounded by forest, 20 min.away Manuel Antoino P
Playa Matapalo house
3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 9
“Exhilarating” The property manager, Alex, met us at the airport and took us to the home, carried our luggage in and made sure we were comfortable. The house is beautiful, with a spacious deck and dipping pool, surrounded by the natural beauty (sights and sounds) of the jungle. We felt very safe because of the 24-hour security guard at the gate. The "wildlife", however, gave us a few starts! Once we got used to the Jurassic Park sized insects and bullfrogs, we settled in and were very happy. We were close to Dominical beach and not too far from Manuel antonio Park to visit daily. We loved the zipline experience the best. This is a great place to stay if you want to be secluded from the entire world, and yet close enough to go visit places. I would recommend it for those who love nature, or just want to be away from it all!
