“waouw” As we were entering the house, an armadillo came to welcome us. And we were told that we had just missed a whale swimming in the bay. Atmosphere was set up. Great secluded house. Amazing views and beach. Perfect for contemplation. Very good value for money.

Villa Cocobolo - Private Ocean View Beach Villa
Santa Teresa villa
1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 3
“Perfect location, Great house, Awesome view, everything you will” Villa Cocobolo is situated in the perfect spot if you are wanting to be slightly off the beaten track and have a true experience of coastal life in southern Nicoya. The home sits just on the edge of Santa Teresa/Malpais for access to great surfing beaches, restaurants and whatever amenities you'd want from town, as well as being right on the edge of a rural side of Costa Rica that is pure magic. Head south a few kilometers and have it all, head north a few kilometers and have serenity, deserted beaches and explore untouched Costa Rica at its best. The home has everything you need whether you want to cook every night, grill on the patio, chill a few cases of beer in the fridge- crank the aC or open all the windows and doors and feel the ocean breeze. You have an upstairs balcony off the bedroom and a downstairs patio off the kitchen, both great places to hang out, watch the sky change and see all kinds of wildlife working its way through the property to access fruits and flowers planted in profusion. I have stayed in Villa Cocobolo- or one of the other rooms on the property- many times now and will keep going back. Every time I'm there I see Howler Monkeys and frequently see the Capuchin Monkeys coming through the trees literally only 12 feet away from the balcony. The birds and butterflies etc., are as good as anywhere. Over my trips there I've gotten to know the owner Trey quite well as he's not only very likable but genuinely happy being there and doing what he's doing. He settled in the area more than a decade ago and can guide you with a smile to anything you're looking for. Whether that's a restaurant, a spot to fish or surf, a waterfall, a grocery store, deserted beach, European bakery or true local flavor on back roads. Even if you want to look for land or a house while you're in the area he's going to know something valuable, steer you perfectly and share his knowledge of Costa Rica and the area freely. A really great host. Book it without hesitation!!

MONTEZUMA Chez Mu Luxury Villa - Tropical Jungle & Ocean Views
Montezuma villa
3 bedrooms / 5 bathrooms / sleeps 12
“Paradise near the beach” We stayed at Chez Mu for a week starting June 22, 2012. This 3 bedroom home is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The Costa Rican Family that look after Chez Mu were very helpful. We were driving a van and though the costarican roads are awe inspiring, we were able to navigate to Chex Mu. Montezuma has a number of good restaurants and the beaches are good. We did go out fishing one morning and caught a 65 lb. Mahi Mahi, that was the highlight of the trip for the guys.

“Perfect get away” I traveled with my two children, 11 and 14 years old, and stayed in the Gecko cottage for a week. It is a beautiful setting overlooking the cost line. The bird life is full and you can spend hours just sitting on the porch. We even saw monkeys near by. The cottage is simple, peaceful and has all you need. The owners are wonderful, welcoming and helpful. We walked back from Montezuma once but the road back is quite steep so often took a taxi which are expensive for the distance. There is lots to do in the area and it is nice to be out of town and have private space. Just taking a walk or going for run right from the cottage was terrific. Gecko is right next to the owner's house but it feels private and they were generous in letting us use their pool which is fabulous, overlooking the coast. This is wonderful place, and was perfect for the three of us as a family. Loved it!

Sandy Bottoms Costa Rica- one minute walk to beach
Santa Teresa house
4 bedrooms / 4 bathrooms / sleeps 12
“Relaxing - Fantastic location- Great waves!” Great location on beach access road. Large individual units are great for either renting individually or together with large group. The units are nearly identical, and both are large enough to easily hold 6 people. Each unit is two bedrooms and two full bathrooms plus the living room furniture quickly converts to beds. The kitchen was well stocked. There is an outdoor charcoal & wood grill. In the early am I liked to take a short walk or go to the roof top to listen and watch the howler monkeys and all of the birds. The pool area always became a relaxing lunch hideaway in the afternoon heat. There is a very large table where we could take our time eating having drinks, and relaxing while keeping an eye on the kids floating in the pool. There is also a very nice outdoor beach restaurant and bar right at the end of the road on the beach. We had so much fun surfing, boogieboarding, snorkeling, & exploring. The perfect riding waves at this spot were endless. Even when it looked fairly flat, eventually a nice set would roll in. I recommend bringing flip flops for walking the beach road as you can go barefoot but the sand near the top of the beach gets very hot in the afternoon sun. We have stayed at a few places in the area, but will definitely be returning to Sandy Bottoms!

Private Beach House at Beautiful Playa Los Cedros, Costa Rica
Montezuma house
2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4
“Best vacation ever!” My husband and I spent 8 days in this lovely home and had the best vacation we ever have had. We wanted to spend time in a peaceful setting and we found it at Mike Walter's place. I mean it when I say it was absolutely perfect. We walked down to the beach in 5 minutes, could still hear faint sounds of the ocean waves from the outdoor living area, and the trees were filled with monkeys almost every day. We cooked meals in the kitchen that had everything you would need- pots, pans, dishes, coffee maker and blender for smoothies from all of the amazing Costa Rican fresh fruit. Every night we sat around the kitchen table in the handmade rocking chairs and sipped wine or fresh juice and just listened to the ocean and sounds of animals moving through the trees. During the day we walked to Los Cedros beach that is just at the end of the driveway or walked the 2 miles along the dirt road into Montezuma or further beaches- there is no shortage! On the hottest days when the tide was low, we walked along the rocks and dipped into tide pools when we needed relief from the sun. You can take a bus but we never wanted to coordinate a schedule so walking was just fine. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, truly relaxing, nourishing, and replenishing- this is the spot! Donna, the caretaker, was also incredibly kind and made sure we had what we needed- she even invited us with her on an errand one afternoon, to the other small town nearby. We bought fresh pineapple pastries, groceries, and probably the freshest fish I have ever eaten. We also were able to take an awesome hike in the Cabo Blanco by catching the local bus to the park. That hike and the beach that lies at its end is magical! The bus took us back home as well- easy. Mike Walter's house was beautiful, the area was brilliantly lush and we hope to return after our baby is born- with her in tow!

Casa Montezuma - Steps to the Beach, Private, Safe
Montezuma house
3 bedrooms / 5 bathrooms / sleeps 6
“The best of Costa Rica and awesome People(rhyme, sort of)” All amenities listed are true so I won't be redundant there. We were lucky enough to stay at CasaMontezuma for a month and there was not a moment of regret with our decision at any time. The house itself is amazing, a beautiful structure indeed. With 5 people there it never seemed crowded and after staying at another house last year and visiting other's homes I can say that this place is unique and a good value. The outdoor areas are big and really comfortable, and with the incredible weather we spent most time lounging there. The location of the house is pretty ideal. Literally about a 3 minute walk to the breath taking and secluded beach where you can feel like you own the place many times of day. You also get to be equal distance from both Montezuma and Cabuya, two really cool and different types of villages. An easy walk, bike(bikes included) ride or bus trip to either. There is a hill behind the house with superb views of the cost and a pretty close by neighbor is a fisherman who sells the freshest seafood nearly daily from his yard. The owners Donna and Tito are who you want to rent from, really. They are endlessly informative and helpful, and friendly and entertaining as well. From day one all the way to the end they were great. Many times Donna offered rides on her way to town and assisted with planning and arranging day trips we took which would have otherwise been less successful. Tito has a vast knowledge of all things Costa Rican and his well of insights will have you feeling like a local. Casamontezuma really is a winner, cause you feel like you are at home, less like in a rental. But not just an ordinary home but a castle, cause it is cleaned for you every week!! Book with confidence and have the most relaxing time of your life. P.s. If the listed reasons don't sell you also know there are two resident dogs with personality to spare and a very charming pig and I can't imagine better ambassadors to Costa Rica than those three.

“Paradise Found!” Recently my wife Julie and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful home which is located in one of the most tranquil settings I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The moment we arrived we felt instantly relaxed and at home. The house is great with all the modern ammenities that you would expect at a 4 start hotel. The a/c worked great in every room, kitchen is spacious and very well appointed and the added benefit of having high speed interenet with wifi was fantastic. It gave us the ability to research the area while we relaxed on the patio. We were able to experience nature to the fullest. Every afternoon a group of monkeys would make there way through the trees eating the tamarindos and giving us some afternoon entertainment. We had one of the best vacations of our life and can't wait to go back again next year. If you are looking for a place to relax this home has it all.

“Felt like home, great view, wonderful deck.” We had a wonderful time at La Colina de Carolina in Montezuma. We've stayed at several rental vacation places and found La Colina to be the best for us. It was more like home, rather than cold and impersonal like some places. It's built on a hill with an overhang roof, so it's cool, there was no need for air con. There was a powerful floor fan when we needed it for a particularly hot day. Some places say "well equipped" kitchen, but this one really was! Very homey and comfortable, perfect for a couple. Can't see any neighbours, just nature and a wonderful view. Montezuma is still a small quiet town with unspoiled beaches. We are a past-mid-century couple and managed to walk back up the hill from the beach every day, we just waited for late afternoon when the sun was off the hill. It wasn't that bad, and kept us in shape. We'd definitely go back to La Colina and recommend to our friends.

Jodokus Inn Montezuma Vacation rental Hotel,B&B, home,Guesthouse
Montezuma guest house
5 bedrooms / 5 bathrooms / sleeps 18
“My daughter and I enjoyed the guesthouse and Montezuma, especial” We only had time for two nights in Montezuma, yet this guesthouse served our needs well. Ype was a great host with lots of information on where we were traveling(we drove ourselves) and met us in Montezuma when we arrived. We had a four wheel drive which was helpful for clearance on the road to the guesthouse. The best part of the house is the wraparound glass walled veranda on the floor with the guest bedrooms. Many of the windows are open and the views and breeze were wonderful. We felt very secure as the property is gated. The trip to Montezuma takes about 10 minutes due to the road, but we got used to it quickly. The breeze was quite nice when we were there, but not sure how comfortable it would be sleeping without a/c when there is no breeze. This is a very nice place--wish we had more time to go exploring Malpais.
