Description from owner

Description

Conveniently located and within a few minutes walk of the centre, this lovely detached holiday house is an ideal base from which to explore an savour the delights of the Cotswolds, much of which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.

With the sparkling and swiftly flowing river Windrush racing through the broad expanse of the village Green, the Venice of the Cotswolds as Bourton is referred to, is a treat for visitors no matter what time of year.

With its graceful low stone bridges spanning the small river at intervals, the center of the village is picture postcard perfect throughout the seasons. The Roman road is a major access route running across the area, taking the visitors from Moreton in Marsh in the North to Cirencester in the South.

Bourton-on-the-Water is the most popular of the Cotswold villages, with lots of eating places and things to see and do but there are many, many more wonderful villages to see and Alderley house is in the perfect location to tour from.

Getting around

Getting to the Cotswolds by train is very easy , if arriving from the north or South West then Cheltenham Spa is the best station, then a bus straight to Bourton on the Water via a few more lovely villages. If coming from the south ( London, Oxford etc ) then Moreton in Marsh station is best , then a bus or taxi to Bourton on the Water ( 8 miles). You can hire private companies locally for tours any where and any time in the Cotswolds , but a car is always best !

“Disgraceful”

Be careful booking this property. Booked and paid deposit for this house only to have our booking cancelled after the owner got a better offer from another booking site !

“Avoid”

Reviewed 21 Sep 2022

Didnt get to stay! Booked a month ago for 2023 as our son is getting married nearby. The owner DOUBLED the price quoted on line which was the first shock. She told us the 'ball is in your court'and gave us a couple of days to think about it. We booked and paid £600 deposit and were then told it would probably go up again before our stay!! Yesterday the owner contacted us to say she was cancelling our booking because someone else wanted it (on another booking site. Paying more ???) She said she hadn't got our deposit. Contacted the booking agent who still thought our booking was live. They then rang owner who confirmed it was cancelled. As we were given wedding details before other guests in order to secure a place to stay we are now left £600 out of pocket and have nowhere to stay.

“friends weekend”

Reviewed 14 Nov 2019

We have stayed at Alderley House 3 times now and always had a lovely weekend. The house is very clean comfortable and well equipped. We park the cars in front of the house and they stay there until we leave. It is a lovely walk into town and there are lots of places to eat or just have a coffee. The owners are always very helpful and friendly. We will be back again in 2020 and hopefully for a few more years after that

“Alderley House”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2019

We discovered this place back in 2012 and have visited once or twice a year every year since then with our extended family (9 plus dog) so the grandchildren have grown up there and consider it our country house. Lovely house in superb location, tastefully decorated with plenty of room and enough bathrooms to avoid any waiting/bickering. Plenty of room outside too with a barbecue to allow summer gatherings around the massive table. Cosy in the winter with open fire. Owners Margaret and Steve always helpful and friendly with the extra touches that make all the difference. We will be back yet again.
