Description from owner

Description

This stone built 17th century holiday cottage provides a comfortable place to stay in the historic Market Town of Buxton with many varied events taking place throughout the year including the Buxton Festival and many others. The cottage has private parking for at least 2 cars and a south facing garden with outdoor seating and garden room to enjoy a BBQ or relaxed drink. Inside the cottage there is an open fire for cosy nights in on cooler evenings.

Smithy's Cottage is situated on an 'Access only' street just off Buxton High Street. It is a quiet back water just a few metres from the 'Town Trail'. Only a short walk to the Market Place, Museum Art Gallery, Pavilion Gardens, Opera House and main shopping area where there are plenty of restaurants, pubs and takeaways to choose from.

Close by is Poole's Cavern and Solomon's Temple situated in Grin Low Country Park. The whole area is surrounded by the beautiful Peak District countryside with Bakewell, Castleton, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Lyme Park all within a short car or bus journey. Buxton has its own railway station and is well served by buses to Manchester Airport and out into the countryside.

Until the early 1900s Smithys Cottage had been the home of the local blacksmith for several hundred years - though now refurbished into comfortable accommodation it still retains much of its old period charm:

- a large oak beam fireplace with a cast iron open fire.

- 2' thick limestone walls with deep recessed windows

- walls that slope outwards downstairs and inwards upstairs

- hardly a "right angle" in the house to be found!

An ideal location to explore the surrounding Peak District during the day and within a short evening walking distance to many good pubs and restaurants.

“Roaming and relaxation”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2021

Smithy cottage is the perfect traditional cottage to use as a base to roam and take in all the sites of Buxton and the surrounding regions of the Peak District. A homely cottage, once the door closes on the world, , you are instantly very relaxed and away from the hussle and bussle of life. The owner is friendly, helpful, with great communication and support. We will definitely be returning.

Response from the owner Thank you for leaving a review. As you say Buxton is well served with its own railway station and numerous buses that go to so many areas of interest. There is no need to have a car. If you get a train to Macclesfield you can travel to Buxton on the no.58 which takes you via The Cat & Fiddle. A real helter skelter ride and great scenery. Plus it drops you off almost at the door on West Road. We are pleased that you keep returning. There is always something new to discover in this area.
