Description from owner

Description

High speed WIFI is included at the lodge - where you won't find a better location to explore this stunning part of the Cornwall & Devon.

Our relaxing four bed lodge lies within the grounds of Honicombe Manor, a 17th Century estate in an area of outstanding natural beauty.Looking over Dartmoor to one side and down across the glittering Tamar River, our lodge can easily accommodate several couples or families holidaying together and is the perfect base to explore this stunning part of the country. There's everything you need here to relax, whether you want to cook a full meal or just have a soak, watch TV and get ready for the next day's adventures. The lodge has recently been newly refurbished inside and out, including new furniture, carpets and full re-decoration. Outside, there is a private hot tub on the verandah, where after a hard day's exploring, you can settle back and watch night draw in, or perhaps just listen to the hooting of the owls. You'll sleep like a log here.Up above is a fantastic tree-top balcony where you can sit and enjoy breathtaking views by day - and gaze at shooting stars by night; no light pollution here! Wildlife watchers are warned to bring binoculars; from your balcony you might catch sight of a fox, deer, buzzard, passing peregrine or a host of songbirds, butterflies and insects. If you're a keen walker, this is heaven. Just a short tramp from your base are historic houses, riverside and woodland walks and more. A little further afield you can explore the mysteries of Dartmoor or visit the magical fishing villages dotted around this corner of Cornish coast. The charming market town of Tavistock is a short drive away with historic Plymouth just a little further. Or why not take the Tamar Valley railway, just a mile or so from our lodge? For a ridiculously small fee, you can take the leisurely route into Plymouth via the viaduct at Calstock and a host of Agatha Christiesque country stations. There are no shortage of great eateries nearby (the award-winning Horn of Plenty restaurant is within a 10 minute drive and Langman's at Callington is just 4 miles away and a must visit for high-end foodies). Within walking distance is the 'Rifle Volunteer' pub and restaurant where you can expect a hearty Cornish Welcombe. In the Manor House on site, just a few hundred yards stroll from the lodge, is the newly opened Pheonix Bar & Restaurant run by the owners of two local food serving pubs - they know what they are doing! Just one hundred yards from the lodge is a children's play area and tennis courts. For the duration of your stay you will have full complimentary membership to the leisure club which has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a games room and a gym. Use of a car is recommended to get the most out of your visit to Honicombe Manor. The main bedroom contains 1 kingsize bed with en-suite bathroom. In the Family bedroom the beds can be arranged as 1 double or as 2 single beds with an additional option of a further guest bed available; the remaining 4 single beds are in the twin rooms.

We maintain you won't find a better place to explore the Devon/Cornwall borders, come and see for yourself! - sorry but we do not accept Stag or Hen parties.

As part of your booking we provide a towel pack (bath and hand) for each guest, but you should bring your own towels for the hot tub.

Getting around

The lodge is set in a beautiful valley in the countryside and therefore a car is recommended. However there is a bus stop within 200yds of the lodge and the local service is excellent around the villages and to the nearest towns of Plymouth, Tavistock, Callington or Liskeard. There is a train station at Gunnislake which is 1.5 miles away and takes you to Plymouth on one of the most enchanting train journeys that you can imagine, including the incredible views as it travels over the Calstock bridge high above the river Tamar. Failing this we throughly recommend the local taxi driver who we can put you in touch with once you have made your booking.

Interaction with guest

Our housekeepers will take car of you during your stay and be on hand should you have any problems.

“Family holiday”

Reviewed 24 Aug 2021

Had a great family holiday. Overall the lodge is good. Living area and kitchen has everything you need and is clean and comfortable. Downstairs bedrooms could do with an update and some TLC. The balcony’s could do with an update, parts of the upstairs decking was chipped and some of the outdoor chairs were broken. The hot tub was really nice and we enjoyed relaxing in there. The upstairs balcony view was limited due to the height of trees in front of lodge.On-site pub/restaurant was really nice, staff where really friendly and helpful. Food was good and reasonably priced.Leisure facilities were good, we used indoor and outdoor pool, clean and well kept.We travelled to Newquay which took about an hour and Looe was about 30 minutes away. Enjoyed canoeing from the Cotehele national trust which was about a 10 minute drive away. Great activity and stunning views, booked through a guy advertising on site, highly recommend, kids loved it.Driving around local area had a lot of single file country lanes, definitely need the sat nav to get around.

We had a great stay at valley lodge. My partners parents were over from Australia and it was a great place to stay with our 4 children and 5 adults. The one thing I will say is it's hard to find the lodge I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but we were driving round and round for ages but other than that we really did enjoy our stay and didn't want to come home.
