Description

The Old School House is a listed property situated in the heart of the village. Formerly the home of the headmaster of the Old Grammar School next door which is now open to the pubic as a museum. The house is one of the grandest in the village. Used predominately as an elegant B&B it is has been opened up for self catering guests for selected weeks.

The porchway leads into a large entrance hall. To the left there is an attractive lounge with cosy woodburning stove, leather sofas, Flatscreen TV, freeview & DVD. To the right is a very spacious dining room with a large oak table comfortably seating 10 people. In addition there is a seating area with armchairs looking out of the floor to ceiling windows across the village towards Latterbarrow. At the rear of the house is a second lounge/snug with slate floors, open fire & flatscreen tv. This rooms leads on to the kitchen with a large double oven, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, washer & tumble dryer.

Upstairs there are 5 stylish & relaxing ensuite bedrooms. There are 3 kingsize and 2 superking (which can also be made as a twins) There is a separate wc.

Outside there is a gravel drive, ample parking for several cars & a large secluded garden perfect for children or simply relaxing in peaceful surroundings.

“Perfect family getaway home”

What a great property for a family getaway. We are 3 households from one family with 4 children and 6 adults, from age 3 up to 71. The Old School House was perfect for us. It gave us time to spend together but also gave us our own space. It is perfectly located with plenty of amenities in Hawkshead and within travel distance to plenty of other activities including towns like Ambleside and Coniston, walks to Wray Castle, outdoor adventures for kids and adults alike, steam railways, aquarium, museums, water sports and boat trips on the lakes. A great week was had by all. The property is within 2 mins from local bus service and the town of Hawkshead has several pubs, eateries, Beatrix Potter museum, deli, outdoor wear shops and gift shops.

“Perfect location and perfect accommodation”

I booked The Old School House for the family to go away and spend time together. The accommodation was perfect for us - we all had our separate room with an en-suite in each room. The living rooms were big enough to fit everyone in and the very large dining room was perfect for family means. The property is located within walking distance of local pubs, shops and a really nice trail/walk. Would definitely recommend staying here and we will be definitely be back

“Superb holiday accomodation!”

We rented the whole of the Old School House for our family weekend get together. The accomodation was brilliant and in easy reach of the lakes for walking, swimming and kayaking. We hope to book again next year for a longer stay.

“Family get together”

Location was brilliant, so easy to reach Coniston and Windermere for example. Enjoyed the ferry crossings. Very close and stroll to and from restaurants/pubs. The B&B was rented out as a self contained cottage to us, so we had the benefit of large ensuite rooms, two lounges and a large dining room. Additionally the authenticity of a very old building steeped in character. Ultimate self catering! Our hosts provided everything for a good stay right down to washing up liquid. Very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. A goos nights sleep was had by all. We were lucky to be able to see the fireworks display from our window. We would look to book again next year. Excellent all round
