We fell in love with Hawaii because of the Aloha spirit. We want others to enjoy the spirit of Aloha as well. Many of our guests have toured the island and returned to us before leaving Kona. They have raved about our comfortable, clean, affordable ohana. They say this was their favorite place to stay in Hawaii, and a better value than other places they stayed. They want to return and to send friends.
A caveat, Hawaii has dogs, wild turkeys and birds that sing loudly each morning. If you are sensitive to noise you might consider bringing soft earplugs.

Quiet residential neighborhood, close to everything, but away from it all! At 1000 ft. elevation, we have wonderful breezes (mauka-makai) from mountain to ocean, and back.
This is especially important when you come home from a day trip to the beach, the volcano, or just to a restaurant in town. It's a comfortable temperature due to the elevation.
No street lights means you can see the stars at night. We have unusual cactus, some night-blooming and fruit bearing. It's a real adventure!
Free off-street parking. Lots of beach gear in the carport next to your car. All for your use.

if you want to get away from staying at a chain mega hotel, look no further than this place. the owners are so warm and kind, willing to help you out as if you were an old friend of theirs. The unit is huge and clean and so well stocked you will feel right at home. tons of beach equipment, super fast internet and they give you local fruit from the farmers market. can't say thank you enough.

A friend visiting from the mainland and I found Caryl's ohana at the last minute and were glad other rentals were booked. Her location is great being close enough but not too close to downtown and proximity to the airport, resort beaches, harbor, markets couldn't be better. Only occasionally will a rental ohana have a full kitchen (ie stove) and Caryl even provided us with some fruits, eggs, coffee, and items that saved us some money. The bathroom is delightful, and the inside is just the right size for a couple or small family. My friend slept on the comfy bed and I had no problem sleeping on the fold-down futon on the porch. The linens are all clean and high quality. Caryl went above our expectations to ensure our experience was great from start to finish. We enjoyed the new BBQ, sunsets from the porch, excellent internet speeds, and temperature was just right.
“Sweet, peaceful, completely outfitted ohana - will stay again!”

What a sleeper of an ohana! I normally stay further south in Kailua Town. My buddy from Hilo suggested we give Caryl's place a shot and we were not disappointed. The unit has a comfy bed, big bath, well-outfitted kitchen, big lanai, nice views, and cool temps. Caryl was the hostess with the mostess, making sure we knew about the nice new gas BBQ, tables/chairs, offered use of sand chairs, beach towels and all of the other accouterments that complete the requisite island gear! We could have showed up in just board shorts, slippas & T-shirts and would have been good to go with this wonderful ohana. And being up above the hustle & bustle of Kailua Town made for a more peaceful setting in the evenings, yet afforded lightening quick access to the Small Boat Harbor, Airport, Waikoloa and to nearby beaches! I'll stay hear again in a heartbeat :)

This is an good option for visitors who want to live like the locals in a neighborhood conveniently situated 7 minutes driving time from the Kona airport and 1,000 feet above sea level (cooler on hot days!). The hosts who live upstairs rent out their first floor "ohana" unit for a very reasonable rate. Inside the unit is a king bed, private marble bathroom and shower, fully equipped kitchen (including full size refrigerator plus gas stove) and a porch entrance. Since the owners migrated from northern California five years ago they have embraced the big island's history and culture and love to share it with visitors if desired. They have also placed an extensive library of books and videos (playable on the dvd/vhs player along with cable TV)in the ohana to help the visitors plan from the many options tourists can explore. Colorful birds and geckos visit the property daily to make breakfast on the patio overlooking the ocean a great way to start the day. This is not a "sanitized" hotel experience but rather an inexpensive way to set up a base from which to experience the island from a local's perspective using your rental car. Easy access to roads leading to island's top sites including coffee tasting & volcanic features.
