Description
A warm welcome and freshly laid eggs await you at The Hen House! A character conversion of a farm outbuilding, the Hen House is now a cosy little cottage located in the picturesque South Lakeland village of Old Hutton. With great outdoor space and ample off road parking, the cottage is perfectly placed for exploring both the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales. Old Hutton is situated midway between the lovely old market towns of Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale.
The cottage is surrounded by open countryside and farm land, with views from every vista and great walks on your doorstep. There are grazing sheep in the nearby fields and hens in the adjoining paddock who will kindly provide fresh eggs for you. You are welcome to use the paddock during your stay for exercising your dog, your children, or just yourself!
The owners will provide as much local knowledge & advice as you need, and there is an information pack supplied containing maps, leaflets, walking books and a huge array of tourist information.
The local pub is 2 miles up the road and is family and dog friendly. There's a great outdoor play area, beer garden and you can say hello to their Alpacas! If you fancy doing something a little different, there is an activity centre just a mile up the road from the cottage where you can have a go at clay-pigeon shooting, horse-riding, quad-bike riding, archery and even tank driving! Paint-balling and off-road driving are also available.

“Cosy Cottage”
A lovely week tucked away in the Hen House cottage, the place was warm, peaceful and very pet friendly. The paddock was a lovely area to exercise our dog before bedtime.

Response from the owner Truly a year of firsts having recently lost my wife, we have run this holiday cottage for over 15 years and never had anything like this before. The weekend was a release from lockdown and I had friends and family over to catch up, I dare say noise levels were an issue but I can’t understand the need to fabricate such a story as it’s simply not correct I offered an apology and would have more than refunded them but was not given the chance Those of you who have stayed with us previously know the standards

“Hen House Holiday”
Thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet this property offers, along with the easy access it provides to the Lake District and North Lancashire. We chose to visit more local places and spend some time at the cottage as well, which suited what we wanted to do. The property does offer a good base for those who want to spend their days in the hills, or visiting further afield as well.

“Hen house”
Had a lovely time staying at the Hen House while visiting family in Kendal. The kids loved their cosy bedroom and that the freshly laid eggs had feathers on and not all the same size like supermarket ones!! Lesley the owner answers any questions quickly. Will definitely book again

“Very cute”
We stayed here over the New years, where we adventured into Kirkby Lonsdale on new years eve, and onto windermere Lake and Ingleton falls on the following days. Great little get away, defo need a car. Bolo (puppy) loved it Greats veiws!

“Cosy cottage”
Stayed at the hen house for 3 nights with my husband and dog. It is a cosy little cottage with a fab shower. Ideally placed to explore the lakes.

“Nice location convenient for Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale and near enough to good footpaths to walk the dog”
Small premises but well-thought-out, fine for the two of us and a dog. Very rural. We enjoyed our stay very much.
