Acorn Cottage is a double-fronted property believed to be almost 200 years old. It has recently been fully renovated and refurbished to a high standard and offers particularly spacious living accommodation. It has gas central heating throughout. It is very conveniently situated in a quiet area yet within a few minutes walk of both Keswick town centre and Derwentwater.

“Acorn Cottage”

It was very busy in Keswick when we arrived, we couldn't find anywhere to park. We had to leave our car quite far away and we couldn't get to park our car near the cottage until a couple of days later. Acorn Cottage has lots of character, it was cosy and comfortable for 6 of us. I had a few issues on the first day, some of the lamps and lights didn't work and the clock on the fireplace didn't have a battery in it. There were cobwebs and dusty skirting boards. I raised the bulbs/battery issue with the owners and they came to fix the problem on the same day. Although the galley kitchen is small it is equipped with everything you need. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was good. On the whole, if you wish to stay near the centre of Keswick, Acorn Cottage is a well located and comfortable place to stay.

The property is on street parking and can get busy at peak times during the day due to visitors but usually eases off early evening. We are sorry to have fell short on the cleanliness, we do rely on the housekeepers to notify us of any maintenance issues and apologise for the lamps and clock to be not working on your arrival, but glad we were able to rectify this quickly for you. This would not be our usual standards and has been taken up with the cleaning team. I’m sorry that the photo of the lounge showed the old sofas at the time of your booking and for any inconvenience that this change caused to your stay. However as our properties are constantly being updated and improved (as we are minimum 4 star) there are numerous updates throughout the year, this of course means things can change from the time of booking to the actual stay and in the majority in a positive way. We will of course take your comments about the new sofas on board thank you. If I can suggest in the future that if there is something really important like the style of sofas, dining chairs etc that you let the accommodation provider know upon or before booking. This will ensure you do not have any issues especially as you booked so far in advance. If anything is of importance is due to be changed we would of course then be able to discuss this with you. We will always do all we can to resolve any problems reported to us as quickly as possible, and had you contacted us during your stay about this we would have done all we could to find a solution and make sure that you and your family had a comfortable stay. As previously discussed, the email to confirm your booking prior to your stay is sent out automatically once a booking has been made (sometime these do end up in junk folders depending on your email settings). You then contacted us via our online chat after booking to say that you had received an email but couldn’t see an attachment and that you would like confirmation from us personally that your booking was in place. We were of course more than happy to do this and responded to you straight away (within 5 minutes of you contacting us) to confirm your booking details and the arrival arrangements so it is very disappointing to learn you found your experience and support ‘Lazy’ . You have not mentioned that we personally came to see you in the cottage to see if everything was ok! If there is something more that you feel we could have done we would be happy to discuss this with you, however this was not mentioned in any previous correspondence. As a small local agency we pride ourselves on the standard of our accommodation and the level of customer service we are able to provide our guests with from booking to departure. I can see you have stayed with us before in the past and so this is not your first time. All of the booking details from confirmation to return of deposit refund have not changed. I presume as we did not hear from you in the past that you have been happy with the emails/support you have received. So I can only apologise if you feel let down on this occasion. To be called a disgrace and lazy is very upsetting and can be damaging to our reputation and small business. I do challenge you to find anyone with better customer service and hope you can take these comments on board so that we can ensure you have the best possible stay with us in the future.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
