Description

Stanger Cottage is a lovely traditional cottage resting conveniently within the village of Braithwaite and used to form part of the old village school, dating back to the late 1800’s. The cottage is spacious with modern fixtures and fittings and plenty of homely touches throughout. All rooms have fantastic views of the fells which are on the door step, and is just a stride away from the local pubs, restaurants, village shop and Whinlatter Forest park is just a minutes drive away. The cottage makes an excellent base for exploring the Lake District and offers a haven for rest and relaxation after your outdoor adventures.

The modern, light living room has matching 3 and 2 seater settees, log burning fire, TV with DVD and CD player. The spacious kitchen/dining room is ideal for families, with solid wood dining table, 6 chairs, large dresser with magnificent views of Grizedale Pike and Barrow. The kitchen is fully fitted with dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine with dryer. The wide spacious staircase leads to two bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor. The master bedroom has a double bed with matching wardrobe, dresser and bedside tables which stand on original floorboards. The second, twin bedroom, also has a stripped pine wardrobe with double drawers and bedside cabinets. Both bedrooms offer great views of the Fells. The white bathroom has 3 piece suite with shower over the bath and folding shower screen with views of Skiddaw. There is an attractive patio area with green slate paving, seating and small stone storage shed. Parking is available to the front or side of the cottage. As well as the log burning stove there is electric storage heaters throughout. Complimentary Wi-Fi is provided throughout the cottage.

Additional amenities include: walkers, TV/DVD, fire/log burner, cyclists, pub within 200m.

Response from the manager It has been so surprising and disappointing to read your review. Firstly you did not have to wait until 4pm, the check in time is 4pm and the keys are left in the key box at 4pm once it is thoroughly cleaned and checked. The usual check out time is 10am and you did not vacate the property until after 12.30pm so this was not a 10 minute delay. The information about check out is available on the information sheet left inside the property, on the booking confirmation email, and is also available on our website. We also send out all of our contact information prior to your arrival and again leave this inside the cottage too so if you were unsure what time you needed to vacate we could have answered this very quickly for you by email on the phone had you got in touch with us. We are a small local family agency only a few minutes away and we are always more than happy to help our guests with any queries they may have prior to or during their holiday. We do have an early arrival and late departure option available however this of course needs to be organised in advance so that we can factor this in to the daily schedule. Had you let us know you had activities booked for the morning of your departure day and needed to stay until the afternoon we would have done our very best to facilitate this for you, but instead your actions subsequently caused huge problems to the cleaning team that day. The cleaner arrived at 10am and was shocked to see all of your things everywhere and no sign of you or your party. She rang in tears at 11am after being sat outside hoping you would soon turn up and vacate. I am sure 99.9% of people reading this will see how very disrespectful and upsetting your actions were especially with all the added pressure placed onto the cleaning team with Covid-19 procedures in place. Your selfish actions meant that the next occupants were inconvenienced as they were late getting into Stanger cottage. The cleaning team are under tremendous pressure at the moment to fully sanitise the properties, carry out their additional Covid cleaning tasks, and ready the properties for our standard 4pm check in time. Their cleaning schedule takes a huge amount of planning and preparation and for the safety of both guests and staff it is so important that guests do not vacate the property any later than 10am unless this has been pre-arranged. We have reiterated this point in both our welcome letter and also the welcome laminate inside the property. I’m very sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the location. The cottage is situated in the peaceful village of Braithwaite at the heart of the Lake District, with walks from the doorstep and fantastic fell views from the bedroom windows. All pictures are taken from the property. As you can see from our review page previous guests have been extremely complimentary about the ‘brilliant location’ and many guests return year on year for their walking holiday because the cottage makes such a convenient base. I would just like to reiterate again that it is never our intent to cause any upset and we will always do all we can to avoid making any charges to our guests. It is not a decision we take lightly and thankfully is something we hardly ever have to do, 99.9% of people respect the properties and the team however on this occasion the costs incurred have far exceeded the security bond which unfortunately left us no choice. It seems your selfish attitude has continued and that is why you have written this spiteful review nothing about the property. The owner and the team work extremely hard to get the property ready for our guests and so by writing this review you have only gone to upset more people. Negative reviews can have a huge impact on small businesses like ours so we request that you remove this untrue review. I would ask that if you stay anywhere else you think about how your actions affect people and think before you just decide you will leave whenever you feel like.

Response from the manager Thank you so much for the wonderful review, and for recommending to others! We are delighted that you enjoyed a comfortable stay in the cottage and visited some of the fantastic local amenities which are just a short walk from the doorstep. We do carry out regular kitchen inventory checks to ensure that guests are well equipped for their self catering holiday, but we sincerely apologise if you felt there was something extra you required during your stay. We are a small local agency and always more than happy to pop round to the cottage if there is anything that you need, such as kitchen ware, so please never hesitate to contact us. Response from the manager Hello Steve, Thank you for your feedback. All of the properties have Carbon Monoxide alarms fitted, which are regularly checked along with annual PAT testing and Gas Safety certificates too. Stanger Cottage does have on street parking, if the space to the front door did not seem suitable there is additional parking to the back of the cottage where there is on street unrestricted parking on a first come first serve basis. Hopefully it will not be too long until your next stay. Kind regards, Keswick Cottages
