Description from owner
Description
The Place is an exceptional 17th century holiday cottage in an unrivalled position overlooking peaceful Loweswater in the North Western Lake District. It sleeps eight in four charming bedrooms (one bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor) and is full of character and luxurious touches, beautifully furnished with beams, woodburning stoves and many original features. Original paintings, books and board games galore complement the modern wide-screen LED TV and AV equipment. The Place is large enough for a special occasion gathering, cosy enough for a couple on a romantic weekend. The kitchen is chic and modern and equipped to the highest standards a modern cook could demand, with American style fridge freezer and induction range cooker. There is also a Gaggia espresso machine and a samsung breadmaker for that intoxicating aroma in the morning, and a slow cooker for preparing your stew for your return from that bracing walk. Surrounded by a large and lovely lawned garden, perfect for badminton, swing ball and quoits (all provided), with secret areas for privacy, and a games barn for wet days where you can play table tennis, pool and table football, The Place is the ideal holiday destination for all ages. The terrace has a dining table and chairs for eight, perfect for a BBQ surrounded by the fells, and their are lots of lovely sitting out spots to enjoy the astonishing views with a cup of tea or a glass of wine. You are spoiled for choice for wonderful walks and bike rides from the door, and the Cumbrian Tourism pub of the year - The Kirkstile Inn - is an easy stroll through the pretty woods at the other end of the lake. All the tourist honey spots are readily accessible by car but you will enjoy returning to the tranquillity of this lesser-known gem. 7 miles from charming Cockermouth and 12 from bustling Keswick all amenities are easy to reach. An exceptional holiday cottage in an idyllic spot. Relax, refresh and revive at The Place.

“Beautiful setting, very well equipped property”
My wife and I spent a week at The Place with our young children following our wedding and it was a wonderful house to relax in and access some lovely walks around Loweswater. I have never stayed in self accommodation with such facilities and we really appreciated it. The weather was mixed so we made good use of the amazing games room and huge DVD collection. The kitchen was well equipped and everything has been thought of. The walks straight from the house were great, with a lovely path through woods along the lake to the local pub and behind the house up Burnbank Fell. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we slept soundlessly in the wonderful quiet setting. A charming house with loads of character. The summer house is a great additional facility.
