my wife and i are used to pass part of the winter's time in the beatiful city of Merida. The years before and the first month of this year we used to rented in the well known barrio of Santiago. To make a different experience we rent for a two months period the "stone cottage" in the "barrio" of la Ermita. A real typical mexican experience that we really appreciate much. People around are very open and friendly and the neighbourhood is really pleasant and different in the right way, the Ermita parque and it's old church, typical yucateco's restaurant and market nearby make you feel in the real yucateco's life.
The house itself was perfect ! hight ceiling, all open space cottage with a lot of lights and wind, a kitchen full equiped and two good size bedrooms with ac but with all the air circulation upstair you won't probably needs it. There is a big backyard with a very good size swimming pool. Everything was in place to pass good time for that long stay. The manager's team who take care of the place are top notch, whatever you need they are there for you to be sure that your stay will be a good and memorable moment. They speak perfect english and know the city by heart.
The only negative point for peoples who don't like to walk much is that the main attraction of the centro are a bit far from the house (personaly we walked most of the time).....but taxi are cheap and easy to find.
