Description from owner

Description

Dartmoor Valley Lodge is a fully equipped interior designed detached residence, with private hot tub set in the grounds of the Tamar Valley Holiday Resort, which is itself positioned in the Tamar Valley - a superb rural haven well known for its outstanding natural beauty.

The park itself has a manor house, housing the bar and restaurant with a pool table and large baronial function room. These are now managed and run by some of the lodge owners on site and there is a lovely range of fresh food, fine local ales and a wide range of nightly entertainments including local bands during the peak months.

Behind the manor house is the indoor swimming pool, with a sauna and kids pool, this complex also includes a well equipped gym and games room with table tennis, pool and many books to read.

Outside and during the summer is the unheated outdoor pool, which adjoins a rather beautiful spring fed pond.

This area has so much to offer the whole family. Visit the glorious sandy beach at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs, enjoy a visit to The Eden project with its giant bio-domes of exotic plants from across the globe, explore Cotehele House and gardens or visit the vibrant naval city of Plymouth with attractions in abundance. Travel 17 miles to Dartmoor National Park, with scenic, undulating moorlands and a myriad of historic sites and monuments. The charismatic fishing port of Polperro is a 50 minute drive; a picturesque cove of harbour, quaint streets and traditional inns serving Cornish ales and cyders. From here the coastal path to Looe is a pleasurable walk across the cliff tops. Golitha Falls is a nearby captivating destination, with spectacular waterfalls that weave their way through ancient oak and beech woodlands. The fascinating prehistoric and geological sites of Bodmin Moor can be easily reached which is popular among walkers for its heritage centre located in the disused engine house.

Perfect for families and large groups with a bright, modern ambiance. The open plan living room has a breakfast bar and is equipped with a contemporary corner sofa, digital flat-screen and Nintendo Wii. The immaculate interior includes two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms, and the convenience of bath and shower rooms and outside, you can relax in the private hot-tub on the south facing enclosed decked patio.

Situated opposite the children's play area, with large open grassed areas, the kids can play safely. There is a court/hard area for tennis or football just up from the lodge which really does make a unique holiday option for a families and friends.

For the more energetic why not visit the Adrenalin Quarry near Liskeard which offers coasteering and bungee jumping or try your hand on a Segway Personal Transporter around the woodlands at Siblyback Lake on the edge of Bodmin Moor where you can even hire a kayak or try wakeboarding! There is so much fun to be had in and around Honicombe Manor you will be spoilt for choice and what better way to relax after long fun-filled days than to sink into the warm swirling waters of the private hot tub!

“Hot tub break”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2022

This is a great base for exploring northern Cornwall and the surrounding area. There was plenty of space for 7 adults with the hot tub being a great extra which my girls enjoyed relaxing in. The games room with pool and table tennis was an added bonus when showers needed to be dodged! The lodge was well equipped for our needs and parking was available directly outside the property.

“Amazing lodge with everything you need on hand in the resort! Dog friendly and perfect for kids of all ages”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2022

Well what can I say other than myself and my family had the best holiday and loved every minute of our stay at Honicombe Resort. We did get lucky with the weather and it was very hot so having an outdoor pool to hand was fantastic, in fact we didn't even leave the resort for 3 days as my kids just wanted to use the pools and play in the games room. The games room has lots of activities and the equipment is new and well maintained. My son (16) used the gym which was well equipped and had everything he needed for a work out. The onsite restaurant was used regularly as the food was delicious and the team were very welcoming to my dog who received a lot of fuss and treats. There is also a lovely cafe (Louis) just up the road with amazing views. There is a Tesco close by who actually deliver to the lodge. The lodge (15 Dartmoor) was clean and had everything we needed, the rooms are very spacious and the beds comfortable. They also included some nice touches like sweets and biscuits, soap and there was plenty of towels available. The hot tub was amazing to use at the end of a busy day and was clean and maintained. It is located opposite a childrens park which my daughter loved and next to the tennis courts which myself and my son made use of in the evenings. We visited some places close by, my daughter (4) had the best day at the Donkey Sanctuary which is just up the road from the resort. We also enjoyed the Porfell Wildlife Park, Polperro and a trip to Seaton beach. I would encourage everyone to put this holiday on their bucket list and we can't wait to book again in the future. Thank you David for being a great host and keeping us informed at every stage.

“New year in Dartmoor 15”

Reviewed 10 Jan 2022

We booked this for a family break for new year, the lodge is spacious and has everything you need. The hot tub is a massive bonus. I will say be careful during winter months on the decking as it was quite slippery but this couldn’t be helped. The bedrooms were spacious and we all slept comfortably. David was on hand to answer any questions I had and also checked mid break to ensure everything was ok. Massive bonus it’s dog friendly we would happily book this lodge again.

Response from the owner This very poor review slipped my attention at the time, but I will respond nonetheless. Firstly my lodge is number 15, this review many times makes the point that it refers to number 14, so I am unsure if the reviewer has actually made a mistake and perhaps posted to the wrong account. Nevertheless, there was in August an issue with cleaning with a number of properties, including mine, largely due to how busy the site was and how stretched the cleaning staff were. I fully appreciate that cleanliness is extremely important and whatever the cause that is clearly unacceptable, so the issue was quickly rectified. The hot tubs ARE emptied and cleaned every changeover day or weekly for a longer booking. That is the law and there are severe penalties for failing to do this, so I can guarantee that the reviewer is mistaken in their assumption that the tubs are not refilled and cleaned. They are also checked daily for chemical levels and these are topped up if required. It is worth mentioning that all the water for the tubs come from an on site borehole and the water can sometimes turn slightly brown once chemicals are added, due to high levels of iron in the water. This clears reasonably quickly and it is not a sign of improper cleanliness. Finally I am sorry that this reviewer had such a poor experience, whether it was in my lodge or not, that is definitely not what we are seeking and the lodges are not cash cows by any stretch of the imagination. Good reviews are our lifeblood as our running costs are extremely high and we are lucky to clear any profit at all. D

Response from the owner Hi, Thank you for your review and delighted you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry that the cleaning wasn't perfect and I will have a word with the cleaners. Also the hot tub water is changed before every booking; in this instance there was an issue with excess iron in the water which was reacting with the chemicals and turning the water yellow, that issue has since been fixed. Thanks, David
