Description
Out of the front door, down the steps opposite and you are in Mevagissey's harbour. Watch the comings and goings of Mevagisseys still active fishing fleet - you can even buy todays catch from a stall near the steps. Turn left from the cottage entrance and Mevagissey village centre is just 200 yards away with its many shops, pubs and restaurants to sample. Turning right from the entrance takes you up Polkirt Hill - our road - with the most stunning views of Mevagissey, its harbour and the coastline. Take a seat in Cliff Park to take in the view, its less than 5 minutes up Polkirt Hill from the cottage. If it is raining or you are just feeling lazy - enjoy the views across the harbour to the sea from the comfort of the living room. Polkirt Forge is ideally situated to enjoy all that Mevagissey has to offer.
Polkirt Forge is a traditional mid-terrace double fronted stone cottage originally starting life as a forge for the local fishermen and later becoming a chapel until the congregation outgrew it. Now rebuilt using the original stone and set on rising ground, enjoy harbour views across village rooftops to the sea and coastline from the main living room and master bedroom both located on the first floor.
Enter the cottage into a spacious hallway which runs the length of the cottage. On the right you will find the well equipped kitchen (new in 2017) with exposed wooden beams. On the left as you enter, a dining / play room includes a TV with DVD to keep the younger ones entertained. Down the hall takes you to bedroom two with two small single beds which can be converted to a king size double - we will check with you before your arrival. The bedroom looks out onto the small but totally secluded rear courtyard - big enough to barbecue your selection from the fish stall! The courtyard is being repaved in February 2018. A downstairs cloakroom with WC and wash basin is opposite the bedroom. Past the kitchen the hallway widens and stairs lead up to the first floor. A large family size bathroom (new 2016) is at the top of the stairs with bath and separate shower facilities. Down two stairs to the comfortable beamed living room cosy and furnished with leather sofa's and armchair providing comfortable seating for at least 6 people when needed. Two windows from this room provide lovely harbour and sea views - looking east towards Fowey, Looe and towards Plymouth across St Austell Bay. The main bedroom with a double bed is opposite the living room and also enjoys the same sea and harbour views. The property benefits from gas central heating. There is a log effect electric fire in the living room for those cooler evenings. A travel cot and high chair are available - towels and linen provided - but please bring your own beach towels.
Wifi and fast Internet (approximately 35Mps) is available so that you can keep in touch while on holiday - bring your own music player and connect it to the Kitsound Boomdock docking station for great sound when you are in the mood for music!

“Fabulous Cottage, lovely autumn break.”
We have thoroughly enjoyed our break at this gorgeous cottage. The location is great, very near the harbour, and a stones throw from the shops. The level of comfort in the cottage is outstanding with a very high standard of fixtures and fittings, including a fantastic kitchen and bathroom. I was amazed at the care and attention to detail in the cottage, providing everything for families, including games, buckets and spades, baby toys, DVDs for all age groups and even a high chair. If you are reading these reviews and thinking about booking this cottage, then just book it! It was absolutely delightful and we will definitely return in the future.
