Description

On the edge of glorious countryside but just ten minutes walk to the bars, shops and stunning architecture and parks of Buxton.

Considerable recent updating gives visitors to Wellwood Lodge a superior self-catering experience for 14 people in the beautiful spa town of Buxton and the stunning Peak District beyond. There are 2 travel cots taking maximum occupancy numbers to 16.

A bespoke handcrafted oak staircase rises through the centre of the house to the upper floors to reach the six spacious and tastefully-decorated bedrooms with four bath/shower rooms. One room has a dressed 4 poster bed and en suite shower room.

A huge (31 ft) 9.5 metres lounge offers a wonderful space for entertaining. Wi-fi is accessible throughout the property.

The fully-fitted and exceptionally well equipped kitchen leads to a Victorian-style conservatory and dining room with an 8 foot square table that seats 12 to 14. It is the perfect house for family and friends gatherings.

Wellwood lodge is ideally located for exploring this unique and attractive area of England's Peak district.

Countryside forms the backdrop and far reaching views are from the front windows. A short walk from the house takes you to heather moorlands, woods and wetlands. No car? not a problem with train and buses into the town centre.

Buxton's beauty is a popular choice for weddings, the house is in walking distance of the Palace Hotel, Old Hall Hotel, Devonshire Dome and Pavilion Gardens, all popular reception venues. We have had brides leave from our door for their big day, families delighted to have a venue where they can relax informally together without the constraints of a hotel.

The house is on a hillside with front and enclosed rear garden with a small lawn. For a small fee we allow owners to bring their well behaved dogs to enjoy their holiday too.

Buxton's vibrant and cosmopolitan town centre is just 10 minutes on foot.

I will personally welcome my visitors and endeavor to point you in the direction of essential things to do and see.

As a resident since childhood I am an enthusiast of my beautiful town, the specialist shops within the Cavendish arcade the former spa bathing area, the extensive choice of places to sample the local gastronomic delights, the wonderful Opera house and the stunning Pooles cavern which is rated as England's finest show cavern are just a few of the highlights. The beautifully kept 23 acre Pavilion gardens is a wonderful place for all ages to enjoy a fun filled time.

“A lovely house”

“Ideal holiday home for large family gathering”

Our party consisted of eleven adults, two toddlers, one baby and two small dogs. We wanted lovely accommodation in a lovely area that could cater for our family gathering. We found that Wellwood Lodge met our requirements. We found the property ideal for a large group in many ways. When catering for a large group you will find that you do need to use the two range ovens and the built-in oven at the same time and you do need to use the six range hobs. You appreciate mountains of mugs and plates allowing you to not stress about remembering to run the dishwasher. Everything you may need is there, pots, pans, roasting tins, casseroles, even down to tea towels, cleaning aids and salt and pepper. Bedrooms are generous, the lounge is large and thirteen fit round the dining room table. The conservatory is a pleasant ‘retreat’ and convenient for keeping an eye on the dogs in the enclosed gardens. The double garage (with electric doors) is massive and there is space for a further two cars to park off road in front of the garage. The need to share bathrooms was an initial concern but worked well with our house full of people. The owner, Susan, kept us well informed and met us shortly after arrival to explain all the basics. Susan also provided some ‘welcome’ treats and surprises but we will leave you to experience those yourself. The location is excellent for exploring both on foot and by car. There is so much to see and do in the local vicinity and the larger region, you will find a week’s stay is not long enough! Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a nice family home.
