“Beautiful Town House with Immaculate Service...and a sauna!”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2012

The owner, Lesley, is clearly very proud of her home and very keen to ensure her guests receive the highest level of service and attention possible, she certainly achieves these high levels. The property is well positioned in the centre of Ulverston and provides an excellent base to explore the towns many pubs and restaurants. Set over 4 floors, the house had ample space for our large party (4 adults, a 3 year old and 5month old baby), and is a wistful collection of rooms that are packed with character. The library room on the ground floor is comprehensive in its reading list and comfort, whilst the kitchen and conservatory would of provided the ideal venue to peruse the weekend papers over a brew and breakfast (if only those children didnt need entertaining!). The first floor has a well appointed double bedroom, and an intriguing sitting room filled with exquisite furniture and a slightly decadent honesty bar (if we hadnt of brought our own drinks we'd have had no complaints tucking into the generous liquors and beers on offer). The top floor has a lovely single bedroom, ideal for a little person, our daughter found it a perfect place to play and rest her head. The top bedroom has a spacious wardrobe and a deliciously soft rug. I couldnt get comfy in the bed though which was not forgiving after a day of exploring the lakes. The cellar is for me, the highlight of the property. It is home to a wonderful sauna and relaxation area, complete with rainforest style shower. I followed Lesley's written instructions for a relaxing sauna session (including ice cold showers!) and i must say it was reinvigorating in the extreme. My minor disappointment is one that the owner couldnt really have done much about. Throughout the Saturday night, a large number of rowdy pub-goers spent most of the evening having loud and aggressive rows on the street directly outside the house. I suppose this is the risk with having a house so well positioned near the centre of town, but it did sour the relaxing atmosphere that is created when you step into the property. Overall, a lovely property that I would both recommend and book again, where good service and attention to detail are guaranteed.

“Lovely accommodation - lovely town - great for the lakes”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at 20 Queen Street. Probably helped by the excellent weather for the time of year. The Farmers pub (a stroll towards the market square) did really good food and was very family friendly. The owners have gone the extra mile to make you feel special. Would recommend to everyone wanting to go to the lakes.

Response from the owner Dear Samsy, Thank you very much for your review and for highlighting that there are apparently 2 bathrooms ! On our own site we do make it clear that it is just a shower room in the cellar and I think Holiday Lettings and TripAdvisor has misunderstood this - we will be correcting ! Best wishes, Lesley Gaunt.
