I can not say enough about our stay at Lopaka's Lodge in Hilo. From the time we arrived until we left we were treated like royalty. The house was perfect in every way. It was just the right size for a couple and was furnished very nicely. Everything that was described in the listing on vrbo was correct and more. The bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in and the location of the house is perfect for exploring the east side of the Big Island. It is hard to adequately describe just how nice this property is or to single out just one best thing about our stay. If I had to narrow it down to one thing I guess it would have to be the owner, Bev. My husband got sick on our very first day there and Bev took care of us as if we were family. We came as strangers, but we left as friends. If you are looking for the perfect place to stay on the Big Island, Lopaka's Family Lodge is the place.
Response from the owner Mahalo nui loa Pat! I'm blushing here from your wonderful review. Lopaka's is a special place, and I care about my guests and will do everything I can to help each of them have a great experience while here. I was happy to have been able to help get you both on the road (no pun intended) to enjoyment of the Big Island. I'm also delighted to have made a new friend. Aloha, Bev
“A great way to celebrate a 50th birthday!”
We were looking for a place from which to see different parts of the island. Bev's "Lopaka's" in Hilo was ideal. From there, we saw sea turtles, volcanoes, the astronomy centre, and a million other highlights. It was great to come home to a spot that had all we could possibly need; maps, guides, aloe for our sunburns, etc. Every morning, we enjoyed outstanding sunrises on the lanai. Great location and an outstanding host. A perfect home away from home.
Response from the owner Hau`oli la Hanau Bruce! I'm so grateful for your thoughtfulness and great review, but I am especially pleased that you were able to see and do so much during your short time here at Lopaka's. You were so kind to help me with mounting the clothesline. Future guests will have you to thank that it is solidly secured for their use. A great big MAHALO to you and Natalie. I enjoyed you so much. Bev
“Most wonderful local vacation rental I've stayed in.”
When I first entered the house my feelings were like "Wow, this is so nice.". When Bev started telling us about everything we needed to know about the house and it's contents, I just knew we were in the right place. She has everything you need. All you need is your body and groceries to have a wonderful time. Bev leaves you to enjoy your stay. Oh, the drive up was so nice because one of the things I like most is looking at houses.
Response from the owner Thank you so much for the excellent review. I hope to see you again one day soon. Bev
As retired school teachers, we give Lopaka's, Bev and Samson an a+++. Cleanliness, friendliness, centrally located for our interests which varied from hiking to events at the University. Excellent views. Loved the fresh fruit. Well-equipped kitchen and laundry. Bev went above and beyond our needs. Can't wait to return.
Response from the owner Aloha Lloyd & Bridget, Mahalo nui loa for the "fabulous" review! It was a joy having you here and your return will be a happy day for me & Samson. A hui hou, Bev
Overall, I loved Lopaka's lodge. It felt like a home away from home for my husband, 13 year-old, and me. Lopaka's is cute, well-appointed, and spotlessly clean. Bev has thought of all the details - from the soap and shampoo in the bathroom to the beach towels to the laundry supplies, Lopaka's had everything we needed. It's conveniently located to Hilo and the surrounding area. If we ever return to the Hilo area, we'll definitely stay again.
Response from the owner Mahalo nui loa for your thoughtful review! I will look forward to your return. Bev
“Cozy place to stay”
Very nice place, a quick (<10 minute?) drive from downtown Hilo. Place was very clean. One bedroom, one bath with a roll-a-way trundle bed for two in the living room. Just like the pics. Bev has provided everything from beach towels to laundry supplies to muffin tin pans! Bev is right next door and is happy to provide travel tips if you need them or let you rest undisturbed, whatever you like. Would definitely go back.
Response from the owner Mahalo for your excellent review and for pointing out that your privacy is respected and yet I am available if needed. I'm so happy I achieved that balance in your case, and that your stay was enjoyable. Aloha, Bev
