“2 weeks in heaven”
Living on 200+ acres of rain-forest for 2 weeks with my wife and our 5 & 7 year old daughters was the trip of a life time. We will be telling fun tails from this trip for the rest of our lives. My favorite thing was waking up at sunrise with my daughters and competing to see who could find the most unique bird species and capture it on camera. We counted 10 different kinds of hummingbirds, numerous Toucans, 3 Stunningly brilliant blue birds and the list goes on. After that we would go an a hiking adventure to the river and waterfalls. When the morning adventures were done, we would load up the car and do an adventure in Quepos. As you already know the road is long and bumpy, but get a 4 wheel drive vehicle and enjoy the drive. You normally pay hundreds of dollars to go on a family 4 wheel drive "adventure", but it is included everyday in this awesome estate. In fact one day, we spent an entire day driving farther up the mountainside with random stops to picnicking and hike. My 5 & 7 year old daughters voted the Zip-line adventure as their favorite. My favorite Quepos adventure was deep sea fishing. We caught 12 sailfish in one day and had a 400+ pound Marlin on the line for 15 minutes until the line broke. There is nothing like seeing a 400 pound fish jump out of the water 30 feet from the boat. Peter and Deborah were incredible hosts and will go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. Bottom line, we highly recommend this retreat to anybody who loves nature & adventure!!
Response from the owner What a great family!!! So many kids never get out of the malls ... how lucky for you children to have a parents like yourselves who are taking the world and all it's adventures. It was our great pleasure to meet you. Thanks for taking the time to give our readers such vivid descriptions. All the best from your friends at Light of Dawn.
If you love nature and like to get away from the tourist traffic this is the place! We were amazed by the sights and sounds of this gem of a property. Endless trees, flowers, wildlife, and your own personal waterfall! Peter gave us an thorough tour of the property, pointing out many things we would have not noticed on our own. Our kids loved exploring and finding new things to look at. The villa is beautiful, well-equipped and spacious. The views are stunning from the balconies, and are quite the treat to wake up to. Peter and Deborah were so helpful and friendly, we couldn't had better hosts. Thank you for a memorable stay!
Response from the owner We are kind of a well kept secret, but the nicest people seem to find us. You are definitely on that list! Thanks so much for your kind review. We look forward to seeing you again in the future. All the best from your friends at Light of Dawn.
“Over the top Hospitality and Care!”
My husband and I made the decision to visit Light of Dawn after our daughter's awesome honeymoon and wedding experience at Light of Dawn 3 years prior to our stay. This is a completely worry-free travel experience because Deborah and Pete attend to your every need. From your transportation, food, and excursions, your hosts gladly advise and accommodate whatever you desire. You will feel like family with Edgar, your chef, Clara, your housekeeper, Deborah and Pete, your hosts as you enjoy the lush beauty of Costa Rica. My husband even cooked with Edgar during our stay, fun! We did the zip-line, river rafting, sunset sail, and the Vanilla plantation tours and loved them all. The people of Costa Rica are so humble, kind, and joyful. They love sharing their culture with you. Enjoy!
Response from the owner My dear friends! it was so nice to finally meet you and have you here. After working on your daughters wedding and honeymoon together, I feel as though we have known you for years! You will always hold a special place in our thoughts, and will always be welcome here. We look forward to knowing your family for many more years to come! Pura Vida!
“Great Vacation Getaway in the Rainforest!!!”
My wife and children and I had a chance to come to Light of Dawn at the end of January 2015 and spend a number of days on the property. It was an incredible experience to be in the middle of the rainforest and be immersed in our surroundings. The property is large and has a great waterfall with a natural swimming hole that my kids could not get enough of. We loved the trees, the flowers, the wildlife and the beauty of everything there at Light of Dawn. This was an experience of a lifetime that our family will forever remember. If we have a chance to get back to Costa Rica we will be back. the home was perfect for us. If you have a chance, book this home you will not regret it! Lance, Katie and Kids
Response from the owner Well, your family could not have been more delightful. What stunning children you have! And how nice it was to see families like yourselves, taking the extra effort of showing your children some of the true wonders in life; time in nature, time with each other. Come back around to see us in your travels anytime! All the best to you.
“Mountaintop getaway brings Costa Rica's beauty to your window”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this remote home outside of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. Although it is a bit of a drive from the town it was worth it. We were surrounded by incredible views and Costa Rican nature -- including toucans outside our windows -- that provided a very relaxing spot after a day of sightseeing. The home is very large and comfortable -- our oldest child loved the hammock , and the homeowners are incredibly welcoming and gracious, doing everything possible -- including driving us wherever we needed to go and loaning us a cell phone -- to ensure that we had a perfect stay. Being able to have a chef during our stay made it an even more relaxing vacation.
Response from the owner Well you guys were a terrific family. What an adventurous group you are. All troopers, every last one of you and we thoroughly enjoyed your company. Thanks for your kind comments. "Your friends in the forest".
For people looking to have a honeymoon that is unique, relaxing, private with breathtaking views, I would highly recommend Light of Dawn! My husband and I enjoyed being pampered for a week with a personal chef and private quarters. We hope to go back one day!!!
Response from the owner Hi you two, Well our it was our great pleasure to pamper you!@! You were so very nice and easy to accommodate. We hope you have lasting memories as you get started in your new life. We'll see you sometime for an anniversary! (We'll keep the glasses chilled!). All the best from the Light of Dawn crew.
“Incredible Honeymoon: Privacy in Paradise”
From the moment we arrived at Light of Dawn for our all-inclusive honeymoon, Deborah’s goal was to spoil us. She was as welcoming as a host could possibly be, and immediately made us feel like family. Peter, our host and guide, drove us everywhere we wanted to go, made all our excursion arrangements (including zip-lining, a nighttime mangrove tour, and a couples massage), and was a wealth of information about the property, the town, and the local culture. Our first morning, he showed us around the property and told us how he and Deborah had planted more than a hundred different flowers, trees and bushes on their 220 acres. The drive from the airport to the house was an adventure in itself! Clara, the housekeeper, provided daily turndown service, complete with chocolates on our pillows, rose petals strewn across our bed, and towel animals waiting to greet us. The lunches she prepared were simple, yet hearty and delicious. It is impossible to say enough praise about Chef Edgar’s dinners. Peter and Deborah were unbelievably lucky to have found him. Edgar prepared us a gourmet meal every evening, leaving us stuffed beyond words. He treated us with ahi tuna steaks in tamarind sauce one night, chicken-wrapped bacon and cheese in a grape salsa another night, and a whole grouper on our last night. His desserts were exquisite, and a perfect finish to every meal. These are just a few of the highlights you can look forward to during your stay at Light of Dawn: -5 star gourmet dinners -No neighbors for acres and acres -The sun as your alarm clock and the sounds of the jungle lulling you to sleep at night -Fresh coconut water- straight from the coconut, which had just been hacked off the tree! -Well stocked snacks, drinks and liquor -Exotic and fascinating horticulture/wildlife -Beautiful waterfalls, one with a “natural jacuzzi” -Perfect amount of privacy When we got home, we couldn’t stop gushing about what an incredible week we had. Our only complaint is that it wasn’t nearly long enough! We will definitely return to Light of Dawn, and hopefully we’ll be able to share this slice of paradise with our friends!
Response from the owner How very kind of you to take the time to write such a detailed response. I am sure that future honeymooners will appreciate your poetic descriptions! We have the best job in the world! I swear the nicest people find us. It was a joy to have you and see you relax and fit in so well. You are a great couple and we would welcome you back any time! <3
“The Ultimate Honeymoon”
The Light of Dawn is everything and more of what we had expected. The pictures do not do justice! From the hospitality of Pete and Deborah, to the amazing views of the rainforest, to the absolute delicious and outstanding meals prepared from Edgar (along with his "surprises"), to the sweetness of Clara, and to the mornings of waking up to the howling monkeys, we are already desperately wanting to return. This was the most perfect honeymoon! We were able to have our private tours on the property, two days of excursions where we chose Zip-lining and Horseback riding. Although September is considered a winter month, we certainly lucked out with our tours as they ended up being private with only us two as reservations! Excursions were done in the morning, so upon returning home, we were able to relax to electrifying thunder and lightning storms. For the last two nights of our honeymoon, we chose to stay at the beach. The hotel was a stylish boutique hotel with friendly staff members. The area was nice too as we were able to experience more of the "town" culture of the Manuel Antonio Area. Not was our house stocked with snacks, beverages and goodies, but the same treats came along for our hotel stay at the beach! Pete, Deborah, Edgar and Clara were so wonderful in taking good care of us, we hope they have as great of a memory of us as we do them! xoxo, we hope to see you soon, Kristy and Jim
Response from the owner Well you two were so much fun. What a great couple you are, so well suited for each other. Everyone loved you and it was a joy having you. Welcome to the family, you fit right in! Pura Vida.
“Beautiful and calming getaway in the Costa Rican rain forest”
My mother, husband, and I spent 4 nights at this beautiful getaway in the Costa Rican rain forest and absolutely loved it! The grounds were gorgeous with amazing landscaping and waterfalls we walked to right on the property. While the road up to the rental house was a bit treacherous at times, we did fine with a 4x4 rental and Peter (one of the owners) was able to meet us in town and have us follow him to the house. It was so quiet and peaceful once at the rental house and we saw a variety of birds and butterflies right from our veranda window! Peter and Deborah were both very accommodating and helpful both during our stay there and also before our trip in preparation. We highly recommend this place if you're looking for some peace, quiet, and natural Costa Rican beauty!!
Response from the owner The staff said you were delightful and a pleasure to have on board. This is the year of road repairs here (at last!) .... they are paving the lower half and it promises to be a smoother ride on your next trip. Come see us agsin anytime,we'll keep the glasses chilled!
“Perfect Little Get Away!”
Great little place to stay. Remote location with beautiful jungle surroundings, tons of birds to watch, private waterfalls and river access, and lots of wildlife (lizards, frogs, iguanas, no monkeys though). It was a great place to "get away" from the busyness of Quepos and just relax. Deb and Peter helped us cater our vacation to exactly what we wanted right down to the canyoneering, food, and transportation. Peter was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife and flora and gave us a private tour of the place. One word of caution is that you are VERY remote ... we happen to like that! You get to experience the beauty and serenity of Costa Rica without the people. The house was very large (could have easily fit the entire family here with all 5 kids) with beautiful screened walls and overhanging decks to eat and relax on. If you are "bug-a-phobic", the main bedroom even has a bug net that you can sleep in. Definitely a great little vacation spot if you are looking for a romantic get away or just a nice place to get away from it all.
Response from the owner Thanks so much for coming. It is great to have people here who really love and understand the rain forest. It is quite a magical adventure, if you like that kind of stuff! ALl the best.
