Description from owner

Description

The current Watch House was opened in 1838 by the Coastguards to control smuggling. Located at the heart of the beach, no boat could enter the bay or person move on the beach or harbour wall without being seen from the bay window. You can enjoy these stunning beach, harbour and cliff views whilst relaxing in the modernised first floor watch rooms in comfort unimagined by the Victorian Coastguards.

The Watch House is ideal for a traditional family beach holiday, walking the scenic South West coastal paths to Mevagissey or The Dodman and beyond or as a base for visiting Eden or the Lost Gardens of Heligan or the many other attractions that Cornwall has to offer.

The Watch House stairs were built before modern building regulations and as a Listed Building cannot be changed. The stairs are steep and twist to the left at the top. Please use the 'Contact Owner' button if you have concerns about your mobility and wish to discuss the suitability of the property for you.

“Heaven on earth.”

Reviewed 22 May 2017

From the moment we arrived we were in love. From the first glimpse of the beach to the glories of the views. The beachhouse is lovely and has everything you need to enjoy your holidays. The access to the watch house is cobbled and the stairs are steep but this did not deter us. (not for people who are unsteady on their feet). We were only there for 1 day before making plans for a longer stay next year.we love this place. We spent all our evenings watching the tide come and go. We would reccommend it to anyone who wants to make wonderfull memories ♡♡♡

“What a little gem!”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2016

Just returned from a delightful 2 weeks at the Watch House and wished we were staying longer. Lovely place, very homely and well equipped. The view could not be bettered. We were retracing our steps from some 50 odd years ago and were not disappointed. Happy childhood memories and now happy retirement memories. Made friends with many of the local people. St. Gorran rowing club a good crowd! Cakebreads a brilliant shop which sells everything and is even a post office. Has a bar at the side and serves lovely food. Spent a few evenings in there.
