“Great spot & lovely accommodation”
We had a great time in St Ives and the owners communication was excellent. There is no parking spot, but you can pay £35 for a week of parking just up the street. It's about 3-5 minutes to walk to the quaint shopping area & the water, cafes etc. We had a toddler with us, and it was no problem having her at the cottage (as long as we kept an eye on her, considering all the stairs).
What a fabulous place to stay, right in the heart of the harbour area of st ives, could hear the sea with the windows open! The accomodation was of a very high standard, very clean, nice and spacious and very homely. We stayed for a week in February, we were very lucky with the weather! Would definitely stay here again and highly recomend, although I have been told st ives in the summer is very busy.
Charles was fantastic, extremely helpful, and made every effort to help make our holiday wonderful. The cottage is beautiful and in a brilliant location, we have been staying in St. Ives for many years and this has been by far the best! So much so, on the first day of our holiday, we booked 2 weeks in the summer - (1 1/2 years in advance!)Having looked at the interior photos on the website many times, we were expecting something lovely, but the cottage surpassed our expectations. 1 Island Sq. is the sort of place where you look into the cosy, lit-up rooms on an evening stroll, and wish you were staying there yourself! I cannot pick one thing that I liked best, there are too many, so I will pick one thing that I didn't like! It was the ignorant people who insisted on sometimes parking outside, despite it being a 'No Parking' zone - perhaps Charles needs to put a bigger or more obvious signs at the front of the property, or even a nice bench for guest to use which might put thoughtless people to shame!
“Perfect family cottage in the heart of St Ives”
This is the second time we have stayed at 1Island Square and we will definitely return. I stayed here with my husband, two very young children and mother in law. It was a perfect family holiday in a beautiful homely cottage, just minutes from the beach. There were even toys and buckets and spades for the children to play with. It is also useful having a little room to unload shopping etc in front of the house for a short period which not many properties in St Ives have. Some may be concerned with the steep staircase going down to the kitchen but there was a stair gate fitted and this did not cause us any problems at all. In fact we spent a lot of time in the kitchen as the large dinning table is great for family meals. In addition to the lounge above the kitchen there is also a small sitting area down in the kitchen which is great if you want some private time away from the rest of the house!!! I also enjoyed having my morning coffee with the stable doors open down in the kitchen area. Will look forward to going back next year!!'
“A wonderful stay at 1 Island square”
We recently returned from an autumnal stay at I Island Square. Having read the other Flipkey reviews I was delighted to find that they were all absolutely accurate in their description and enthusiasm for both the cottage and St Ives. The cottage itself is very spacious, fully equipped, sensitively decorated and furnished and extremely comfortable.Just the right balance has been maintained throughout - something not often easy to achieve with a holiday rental. Charles himself was always extremely courteous, considerate and efficient, responding promptly to all queries and taking care to ensure all was all well while we were there. We have already recommended it to family members and we will certainly return.
“Everything you could wish for”
Faultless cleanliness, decor and comfort. Spacious, light, bright and welcoming and beautifully equipped. Unbeatable location, just as described, so easy to access everything St Ives offers. The steepness of the lower stairs was initially a slight concern but the child gate at the top was good and the two-and-a-half year old managed fine, though the oldies might have liked a downstairs toilet.
“Wonderful cottage, wonderful town, wonderful holiday.”
My family and I stayed at 1 Island Square, St Ives for a week at the end of april 2011 and had a great time. We hire holiday cottages across the UK as it's preferable with a small child and of all the ones we have stayed in I can't recommend this property enough. The location in Downlong, the oldest centre of St Ives is just lovely. 30 second walk to the harbour front and just a few minutes away from St Ive's gorgeous beaches. The plentiful restaurants and bars kept me more than happy and my wife was in her element bumbling around the vast array of independent clothes and art shops. The cottage itself is surprisingly spacious, spotlessly clean and is incredibly well stocked, nothing has been overlooked. Whilst the distance to the parking space is a minor negative (about a 15 minute walk) once you've unpacked your stuff, you'll have no need for the car again as everything is within easy walking distance. I'd recommend many of the restaurants in town, especially the SeaFoodCafe on Fore Street, alternatively you're always guaranteed a cracking evening round the corner at 'The Sloop' Inn. Also recommend the Mackerel fishing, spending days on the golden beaches or just immersing yourselves in the old centre of St Ives. We were very lucky with the weather but even without it, the cottage and the town are perfect for a relaxing break away from it all.
“1 Island Square, St Ives”
This was our first to St Ives and we were delighted to find this gem of a home in which to spend our holiday. We have two small children (6 & 3) and found the house had every comfort to make our stay a really memorable one. The house is very centrally located in the heart of the village, within a stones throw of the harbour which is very safe for paddling kids and a stones throw from the beach. The cobbled streets with it's many shops and galleries are delightful to wanders around to shop or browse. The house is extremely well equipped and comfortable. The bedrooms have louvered blinds which meant we enjoyed the sunny mornings and sleeping late in the morning wasn't an option, but with two small children I guess that wasn't going to be an option anyway. There is a very useful car parking space that comes with the propety about 10 minutes walk away but if you want handier parking there is a council car park only seconds away at the cost of £33 per week. All in all we had a great time. One thing we would say is the Tate was a huge disappointment, at £6.50 a ticket we thought it was a rip off, best check what the exhibition is before committing to going, the local galleries are far better and free!!
“A Beautiful Holiday Home in the Heart of St Ives”
St Ives is my favourite place in the whole of England. I have stayed there many times with my family and would recommend it to anyone, of any age. As we have a young child we wanted to look for a 'child friendly' appartment without compromising on style. We discoved '1 Island Square' by looking on the internet and as we know St Ives well, we knew it was in a really good spot in the very pretty part of St Ives. Its right in the heart of this busy sea side town with beautiful beaches, restaurants and shops right on the doorstep. It is easy to drop off luggage by stopping right outside the premises. The parking space is a ten minute drive away, as you have to utilise the one way system, but it only takes about five minutes to walk back to the premises using the more direct pathways. The house is a really good layout and size set over three floors. The lower floor has a large kitchen diner and seating area, including a television. Its extremely well equipped, there are even buckets and spades if you have forgotten your own! The second floor has a large entrance hall and cosy but spacious living room. The top floor has three good sizes bedrooms and a bathroom. There is plenty of storage space and all bedrooms were equipped with clean, fresh bedlinen and towels. This house is extremely well decorated and furnished to high standard and the owner was in contact to ensure our stay was perfect. Another plus point was we had beautiful weather for March and cant wait to come back again in September!
“Fantastic property in the best location in St Ives”
The cottage is situated right where any family would want to be when staying in St Ives, within a stones throw of both the beaches and the shops. The house is fantastic- a great size and spotlessly clean. The house is spacious and does not feel that you are on top of each other-especially on those rainy days. The house is kitted out with all the modern appliances needed, washing machine/dryer, great TV. The kids loved it and I want to buy it! I would certainly recommend this to anybody who wants to stay at the best address/area in St Ives.
