Description from owner

Description

Fernyford Barn is a luxury, fully equipped self-catering accommodation set on a working farm and run by our family. We did our best to make sure that our holiday cottage is a perfect blend of modern facilities and good old country comfort and cosiness.

Fernyford Barn is a delightful property with stone floor downstairs and solid oak flooring on the first floor, exposed oak and stone lintels giving warmth and character. There is under-floor heating downstairs and in the bathroom. Recently gaining Four Stars and a Gold Award from Quality in Tourism, it has an open plan living room with fire place (electric stove) and 50" TV, fully-equipped kitchen, double bedroom with 5ft bed and second bedroom with two single beds. Sleeps 4 (+1). The property has its own patio area to sit out and enjoy the peaceful location.

Fernyford Barn is ideal for couples and families. A warm welcome for babies and children.

It is the ideal accommodation for a relaxing country holiday - set in the glorious Peak District countryside. Perfect for walking, cycling, bird watching and the many attractions of the Peak District including Bakewell, Buxton, Chatsworth House and Alton Towers.

Fernyford is a great place to get a feel of what life is like on a working farm. The farm enterprises consist of a herd of 20 Belted Galloway cows with followers and a flock of 200 Swaledale ewes with the emphasis being the production of top quality breeding stock. We also have some free-range chickens, two friendly Collie dogs Liz and Skye and Sparkle, the cat.

The latest news: We have become the proud owners of "the world's cutest sheep” - the first VALAIS BLACKNOSE SHEEP in Middle England here at Fernyford Farm, in the heart of Peak District!

Interaction with guest

Fernyford offers a perfect balance between being able to completely unwind, or, if you prefer, getting involved with the day to day life of a working farm! We will be happy to offer our guests the opportunity to experience seeing the livestock on the farm, the different farming operations throughout the year and to taste quality meat produced on the holding. Fernyford Farm is a traditional farm, and we love living here. This is a great part of the world, and we would really enjoy being able to share it with our guests. So, we look forward to welcoming you here on the farm! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

What a beautiful cottage! We have just come back from a weekend away here. The kids loved being on a working farm looking out of the window at breakfast and seeing sheep looking back at you. The cottage had everything you could need and more the kitchen was fully equipped and there were plenty of toys books and DVDs for the kids. The cottage was beautiful clean and tidy. I would highly recommend. ☺️

“Absolutely perfect”

What an amazing place, We could not find anything about Fernyford that we would change. Fabulous accommodation in an amazing location, peaceful & with beautiful views. Have never known such an immaculate cottage,so well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Neil & Dorota are lovely people who make you feel so welcome, nothing is too much trouble. Our girls have rated this the " Best holiday ever " they loved the tour of the farm, & ride on the quad bike, the friendly working dogs, sheep & cows grazing on the doorstep, red deer, the cutest farm cat Sparkle who they still miss & to top it all, a fantastic play area with the best zip wire ever. Already looking at dates for next year !! It has been a very strange & somewhat stressful year so far but after a week here feel totally chilled. Everything we wanted to see was in easy reach & sitting out on the peaceful patio with only the sound of the sheep was the perfect end to the day. Thank yo do much to Neil & Dorota for everything.

“Perfect holiday cottage”

Reviewed 27 Oct 2019

Fernyford barn is a superb place in so many respects. My brother and I stayed here for 4 nights in October and had a lovely, relaxing stay. As soon as we approached Fernyford we knew it was special. The barn is set in gorgeous countryside and is part of a working farm. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, Dorota and she informed us that she was available if we had any issues. We didn`t as the place was great! The barn itself was immaculate-I have never stayed in such a spotlessly clean place. It was beautifully renovated-and there is a photobook detailing the restoration from a barn to a holiday cottage. The fixtures and furnishings were of a high standard and very comfortable. The lounge is comfy and has a large screen TV which we enjoyed watching at night. There were a selcection of DVDs, books and games alongside leaflets about local attractions and an OS map. Wifi is available. We loved watching the sheep from the lounge window-as where they graze comes right down to the window and they sometimes peered in at us! The kitchen is great-fully equipped and we cooked in it every morning and evening-everything we needed was available. There are extra freezer facilities upon request. We had done our own shopping in Aldi in Bakewell, but we wish we had waited as produce is available to purchase from the farm. There is a good sized dining area in between the kitchen and lounge. The 2 bedrooms were of a good size-the best views being from the twin room-it overlooked the back garden and beyond. The beds were so comfy-the mattresses were memory foam and we slept like logs! It is also very peaceful at night. The shower was great-hot and really stylish! The location was great to visit all the attractions we wanted to-we went to Chatsworth, Buxton, Bakewell and the Monsal trail. The nearby villages were so pretty and we found a couple of good nearby pubs! I highly recommend this place for a relaxing and perfect stay.

“Fantastic Rural Cottage for a family holiday”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2019

The cottage is hidden away down a farm track with the beautiful view of the Derby shire dales. It is an incredibly well equipped , clean, modern cottage which is perfect for a couple or family. A great selection of children’s DVD’s and books/ toys for when you want some peace and quiet. There is a great outdoor play area with a treehouse, swings, zip line and trampoline and some resident sheep ! Neil and Dorota were perfect hosts and introduced us to the farm animals and took our daughter on the quad to round up the sheep which she loved. Buxton, Bakewell, Dovedale and Ilam Park all within 20-30 mins drive. There is a choice of traffic free cycle trails and walks perfect for families. If you want a relaxing, outdoor holiday even if the weather isn’t great then this is an amazing place.

“Beautiful cottage”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2018

We enjoyed a week in this beautiful cottage. From the moment we stepped through the door, we knew we had chosen a really lovely property for our holiday. It had everything we needed and was modern, cosy and comfortable. Our two boys (4 and 6) really loved playing in the tree house and we all had lots of fun on the zip slide. From the moment we arrived, Dorota and Neil made us feel very welcome and we particularly enjoyed eating the delicious meat and eggs that were available to purchase from the farm. We had a very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend this cottage. It was perfect.
