Description from owner

Description

Among oaks, chestnut, apple and olive trees, the old cottages of “La Gisamìa” are only 8 minutes car away from the centre of Petralia Sottana, the medieval village, head office of the 'Parco delle Madonie', which with its cathedral, its stonehouses and its paving ways, offers a still authentic example of old sicilians architecture. Ideal starting-point for hikes in the mountains and for visiting the other wonderful villages of the Park (Petralia Soprana, Polizzi Generosa, Geraci Siculo, Gangi, Castelbuono, Isnello), the cottages are in a private property of some hectares, peaceful and isolated.

Cozy and homely, the cottages are named after the surrounding trees (the caption below every picture reports the name of the cottage). They can be rented single or together, from two up to six guests. Although independ and not visible, the houses are several meters away one from each other.

The House of the Pomegranates is a one room flat for two guests (€ 65,00 per night). It consists of a sofa double bed with real mattress, kitchen area and complete bathroom with shower and bidet, and provides all conveniences (wood stove, tv sat hd, kettle, electric oven, hairdryer, internet wi-fi for € 10 all the period, etc.).

The House of the Pear Tree suits for four guests (or even for two guests for the reduced price of € 95,00 per night). The groundfloor consists of an open living room with kitchen, table, chairs and sofa and also two single beds in a corner aside. There is also a fully equipped bath with shower, bathtub, two sinks and a bidet. On a spacious mezzanine is a double bed. The house provides all conveniences (wood stove, tv sat hd, cd player, kettle, hairdryer, wifi for 10 euro, etc.).

From Petralia, one hour and half driving, is possible to reach Cefalù and the sea of the northern coast of Sicily, a part from Palermo, Agrigento, Catania and Etna. La Gisamìa is the ideal place for whom loves nature and mountain, for whom searches for peace and silence.

“Wonderful Restful Stay”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

Lovely cottage in a stunning location. It's a small space but has everything you need and is so well laid out that it doesn't feel at all cramped. The garden is so pleasant and such a nice place to spend the day reading and relaxing that you might never want to leave - but if you do, despite the seemingly remote location we did two day trips to Agrigento/Scala dei Turca and Piazza Armerina/Enna. Cefalu is also easy to get to if you'd like a day at the beach and the twin towns of Petralia Soprana and Petarlia Sottana are little gems where everyone we met was very friendly. Ferdinando went above and beyond to be helpful and helped us plan our trips and gave us driving advice. The wi-fi needs to be chraged by Ferdinando if you want to use it; we decided not to do that and had a 5 day spell without internet, which was blissful. There's not a lot of hot water so you have to be quick in the shower - this was the one downside! I'd love to go back and if I do so will try and do more walking in the mountains - this wasn't quite as self explnatory as I'd hoped it might be; if you're planning to do a fair bit of trekking I would suggest contacting Ferdinando or trying to get hold of a map early on in your trip. An excellent place to stay.
