Description
The house is situated in the countryside of Balestrate - a small town in the beautiful Gulf of Castellammare, set between Palermo and Trapani on Sicily's northern coast.
The village and beach lie a mere 3km from the house, whilst the airports of Palermo and Trapani require just 20 and 35 minutes by car respectively.
The house draws its particular charm from the uniqueness of its architectural surroundings.
It is located inside an ancient baglio, a typical rural Sicilian rural courtyard enclosed with a large door, at the centre of which lies a mulberry tree: a pleasant place to stop and chat or sit and read.
Simply furnished, the house offers everything you need for a comfortable stay. The thick stone walls keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
There is a living room with kitchen, a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower (about 40 square metres in total). It has a double bed, a sofa bed for two people (bed width 140 cm) and, on request, a cot.
The living room opens onto a large outdoor area, partly covered, where you can cook and eat as well as relax and sunbathe. In front lies a wonderful citrus grove, set to a backdrop of tall cypress trees and a huge centenary pine trees to create a fantastic skyline.
Thanks to its convenient location, many of Sicily's natural splendours and artistic gems lie a mere stone's throw from Balestrade (with visual and gastronomic treats including the tuna Scopello, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, San Vito lo Capo, Segesta, Erice, Monreale, Palermo and Selinunte).
The coast of the Gulf of Castellammare alternates long stretches of sandy beach, ideal for those with small children, with spectacular rocky stretches interspersed with coves.
You will be within touching distance of a variety of art venues, ranging from the famous archaeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte to the art of Norman Monreale and Palermo. Also nearby, the charming village of Erice provides spectacular views of the islands of Egadi and the salt pans of Trapani.
