The local Pub, Beach Restaurant & Bar, Cafe and shopping facilities are all a handy half mile walk away… Vellandreath Cornish Cottages is a family run business. We have been offering our traditional Cornish Cottages to generations of families, couples and individuals for their holidays for almost 40 years with many of our guests returning year after year. Penrose is well appointed in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a haven for botanists, wildlife enthusiasts, beachcombers, climbers, ramblers and watermen. Vellandreath (also known as Vellan Dreath) is a beautiful, privately owned unspoilt valley designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty by the National trust. Located by the beach known as Whitesands bay but also known as Sennen beach and Gwynver Beach in Sennen within West Penwith (the Land’s End peninsula) which is the southernmost area of England, and the most picturesque part of Cornwall. It is rich in dramatic beaches, wooded valleys, moorland, rolling farmland, and hidden coves; much of it is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The far South West is warmed by south westerly breezes from the Azores, and is one of the most unpolluted areas in Britain. It has a special, indefinable quality recognized by locals and visitors alike. Its 144 square miles still supports an active small scale farming and fishing community, with a unique beauty that draws visitors back year after year. The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. Although there are several traditional seaside resorts for family visitors, the area also attracts walkers, naturalists, artists, and anyone seeking a quiet haven, with amenities close by. The sea is crystal clear, jade green, and a comfortable swimming temperature into late autumn. The Land’s End peninsula is in the path of the warm Gulf Stream, and cold weather is rare. Frost and snow are rare, and the climate is ideal for semi-tropical plants, many of which can be seen in Vellandreath’s valley gardens West Penwith also has more ancient sites than any other area of Britain, ranging from stone age to iron age monuments and settlements. These include four stone circles, 90 standing stones, and numerous hill forts, village settlements, quoits, and burial barrows. There are dozens of beaches on the Land’s End peninsula and they are amongst the most unpolluted in Europe. They range from safe, sandy family beaches with lifeguards to wild and rocky coves. There are many coves where the access is difficult, with wonderfully crowd-free bathing, and others with car parks adjacent to popular resorts

Response from the manager Thank you for staying with us and for your review. We are sorry the cottage did not meet your expectations. Penrose is advertised as a family cottage designed for 'Mum, Dad and the kids'. The cottage has one good sized double bedroom a smaller twin room which is great for kids / teenagers and a small bunk bed room recommended for children only. We are sorry that as you opted for separate bedrooms it meant that one of you had a larger room and the other a smaller bedroom. We do have other cottages in the same location that offer two double bedrooms and perhaps one of those would have suited you better. It's such a shame you experienced bad weather at the time of your stay and had to spend so much time in doors which restricted your experience of enjoying the wonderful location. Penrose is typical granite-stoned Cornish Cottage presented in the traditional style with antique furnishings and as such does not have the modern fixtures and fittings or size for that matter of a new build house. We feel that is part of its charm and many families have enjoyed holidays there, we are just sorry it wasn't for you. The previous guests did indeed misuse the woodturning stove by burning coal in it against our instructions. We did try to air the cottage prior to your arrival but were hampered by the weather and did not want you to arrive to a cold cottage. However the lingering scent of the fire did go away once the cottage was aired after your arrival but we are sorry for this and did do our best to rectify the situation. The blackened glass has been replaced and was ordered as soon as we were made aware of its demise. The cottage has been recently redecorated but the decor will remain as so many of our other guests love it. We do hope that this won't put you off staying with us again.
