The Barn is spacious, comfortable, luxurious and self-contained. With its own private entrance the accommodation comprises a 1000 square feet open-plan lounge and kitchen with an oak staircase leading to a galleried mezzanine bedroom with ensuite bath/shower room. The 2 metre wide bed was hand-crafted using ancient beams from the original barn.
The name "Cowshot" dates from 675 AD, the Anglo-Saxon term “Couscetes Hagen” meaning “angle of land for rearing cows”.
The owner in 1263 called himself Thomas de Couchoute. Over the centuries the house name changed from Couchoute to Cowshot and the principal house became known as Cowshot Manor. Built in the late 15th Century as a Hall (farm) House with numerous adjacent barns, Cowshot Manor now stands in four and a half acres of grounds which constantly change throughout the year, making it truly a “Manor for all Seasons”.
In 2011 renovation began on a 17th Century barn 30 metres from the main house. The foundations were rebuilt and the oak beams repaired or replaced by master craftsmen – from the same company responsible for the rebuilding of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. Some of the original beams still have their original bark from oak trees that grew 500 years ago
