Description from owner

Description

Enjoy the mountain sunset view from your 700+ square foot suite. The space is part of our home, privately located on 43 acres with plenty of hiking opportunities. 10 miles from downtown Asheville...it's restaurants, interesting nightlife, music, art galleries, Southern hospitality and eclectic vibe. Delicious cooked breakfast on the Weekends. Weekdays - homemade muffins or coffee cake + cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea.

Suitable for one person or couple, with its comfortable double bed, your own bathroom/shower and of course the inviting Living room with its long range western view over the French Broad River Valley. Be sure to click on photos to see more. Enjoy the same view accompanied by the happy sounds of the babbling brook while eating breakfast at the Kitchen table or outside on any of the decks.

Should you feel like stretching your legs, Sunny our large friendly dog would be happy to accompany you on our 43 acres of hiking trails just outside your private entrance. Stroll through Sharon’s flower and square foot gardens. Follow the stream up the mountain. Relax sitting on a comfortable swing as you enjoy the mountain view and let the sight & sound of the babbling brook carry your cares away. You’re only 200 yards from the house...with more unique “pretty places” and 3 more swings along several private hiking trails if you would like to indulge yourself with a longer walk in the woods.

Of course we’re also happy to share information on the many hikes we know in nearby National Forests. Including Mount Mitchell and Craggy Dome...a short, beautiful drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

When you've had enough of the woods (if that’s possible) you are 10 miles from Downtown Asheville, best known for its diverse restaurants, interesting night life, fabulous music, art galleries, street musicians, Southern hospitality and eclectic vibe. You are also less than 4 miles to the quaint, artsy town of Weaverville and its interesting eateries.

If you happen to be here on a Saturday or Sunday morning you'll have a choice of: -French toast; -Homemade buttermilk biscuits & gravy with sausage patties or bacon & eggs; -Pancakes made with gluten free flour, wheat germ, oat bran, almond milk & eggs; -Bacon or sausage, eggs & homemade herb batter bread; -Homemade herb batter bread or buttermilk biscuits turkey bacon & eggs; -Sweet potato, kale, bacon, sausage, egg casserole; -Bacon quiche, -Caramelized onion breakfast casserole made with bacon, broccoli, eggs, sourdough bread, sweet onion & swiss cheese; -Egg in a basket with bacon or sausage patties. Or if you prefer we always have: cereal, fruit, home made muffins or coffee cake, bagels/cream cheese, English muffins, toast, yogurt, oatmeal and of course coffee, tea & juice.

Please understand that our entire house is heated in the winter by the wood stove in the living room of Sunset Sweet and occasionally needs our attention. The room divider still provides privacy...but a bit less then when the wood stove is not in use. Keep in mind, should it snow, having a four wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended to get up our driveway. However even when it does snow it's usually melted by the next day.

Interaction with Guests: Even though we live and work from the home you will find all the privacy you desire. Interaction is based on wants and needs of the guest.

Guest Access: WiFi; 2 Bedrooms (one for sleeping and the other has a small frig & microwave); Bathroom/shower; Living room; Front & rear Decks; Kitchen (for eating breakfast, but not for guests to cook in); 43 acres of hiking trails with two streams; Gardens; Free to pet our two friendly dogs Shadow and Sunny as much as you like; 2 cats you will probably never see; Sunset Fire ring- naturally we supply the firewood

Partial List of Easy Access Attractions: Blue Ridge Parkway- less than 7 country road miles; Downtown Asheville- around 10 minutes; Weaverville- less than 4 miles; Hot Springs- less than 30 minutes; Mount Mitchell- 22 miles up the Blue Ridge Parkway; Kayaking on French Broad River- less than 10 minutes; Biltmore Estate- less than 15 minutes; Navitat Canopy- tree top Zip Line Tour less than 15 minutes; Historic Grove Park Inn- Less than 4 miles; More craft beer breweries than we care to count; Our “neighborhood” is where folks that live downtown come to ride their bicycles; Convenient to all necessary shopping; I-26 - 3 miles;

Getting Around: Even though we are conveniently located just north of Asheville (around 10 minutes)…We are “in the country” so having your own transportation is necessary.

I'm generally flexible on when you check in and when you check out as long as I don't have anyone leaving on the morning of your arrival or arriving on the day of your departure. On those days check in is after 2pm and checkout is by 12pm. Just ask me if we have guests coming or going.

great place to stay they make you feel at home the room was spacious with its on private bathroom everyday the owners put out breakfast with a special home cooked breakfast on weekends the dogs and flowers are beautiful you can climb the mountain from there backyard it’s 30 minutes into town where you can find things to do and places to eat

Response from the owner Thanks for the great review. Just wanted to note that we are located exactly 10 miles from the intersection of Patten Ave. and Clingman Ave. which is the beginning of downtown Asheville. A trip, depending on traffic, that usually takes me 15 to 20 minutes. See you in the Mountains! Sharon

“Very hospitable and enjoyable”

Sunset Sweet is just outside Weaverville near Asheville, NC. It does have a dirt driveway but is quite accessible. We chose there as a place to stay out of Asheville and inexpensive but it is quite accessible to Asheville also. We had just spent some days nearer town. The Blue Ridge Parkway is also quite accessible. Our hosts Sharon and Gary were great and willing to help wherever they could. The space was very good including bedroom, bathroom, a small fridge, coffee and tea, and use of a separate living room, a bonus. A breakfast of cereal, fruit, yogurt and homemade muffin could be had in their kitchen or outside on several decks and porches.Good conversation ensued. The steepish trail out back has lots of spring wildflowers which unfortunately were over in July but others were evident. Some swing seats and benches afforded rest and views. The fireflies at night were good to see and the view is good over the hills. The Stony Knob cafe and Well Bred bakery were two eating places we went to and they were very good. I would highly recommend both. Weaverville is a pleasant small town. The two dogs are very friendly and docile. All in all a very good place to stay and great host and hostess. .

“Cozy place, great people, perfect for us”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2016

We come to the area 2-3 times a year, and have stayed at several places. This has been the best. Very convenient location for us, nice room, great property to hike around on. The rental is about half of the house; a bedroom, and another bedroom for use with fridge. & microwave, dishes, etc., and also to store your bags. Private front room. Great folks running the place. We'll be back soon!

“Spectacular mountain views with very nice hosts!!”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Sweet. Gary and Sharon were very friendly and informative. I was glad that Sharon talked me into hiking up the trails with her for the views. I got some very nice pictures!! The outside sitting areas are gorgeous!!! It wasn't a far ride into Asheville. We walked around the city in the morning and early afternoon and then went back in the evening to catch a music show, which was really a great time. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. Thanks for opening up your home to us travelers!! Jeff and Donalyn.

“Perfect Mountain Getaway”

Reviewed 7 Jun 2015

This was our first stay at a bed and breakfast, but after this experience it won't be our last. Sharon and Gary are excellent hosts who made us feel comfortable immediately, leaving us feeling as though we were staying with friends or family for a weekend. They were open for great conversation and willing to offer tips and local knowledge, however they also made sure we had plenty of privacy. The property is beautiful! Sharon's flower gardens are gorgeous and the fact that you can hike right in their back yard is incredible. Their dog Shadow also made for a great tour guide. They have a very nice hiking loop with swings at aesthetic resting spots and they also have plenty of outdoor seating around their lush backyard. To say it was serene would be an understatement. To top it all off, you're only 10-15 minutes from Asheville giving you remote peacefulness without sacrificing convenience. Lastly, the food was awesome! We were fortunate to stay for a Saturday and Sunday morning and got to experience 2 great home-cooked breakfasts of our choosing. Not only is Sharon a great host, she's a great cook as well! I would highly recommend staying with Sharon and Gary if you're looking for a B&B near Asheville. Great people and a great property!
