About Italy

Romantic, historic and filled with passionate, welcoming people, Italy is one of the world's most prestigious and popular holiday destinations. From the simple enchantments of the storied countryside and alpine peaks to the striking coastal towns and stately magnificence of Rome, Italy has something for everyone. Come for the food, come for the adventure, and come for the joy of living life the Italian way.

Here are a few ideas for your Italian itinerary:

  • Rome: The cradle of Western civilization, Rome is home to such iconic sites as the Colosseum and St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. If you can only go to one place in Italy, many people will advise you to make it Rome.
  • Venice: Taking a gondola ride through the canals of Venice makes for an unforgettable experience.
  • Sardinia: With over 150 miles of coastline and some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, Sardinia is one of the nation's most popular vacation hotspots. It is also one of the best places to go camping in Italy.
  • Sicily: The home of many of the country's most impressive archeological sites and famous for its rugged beauty, people do things a little differently in Sicily. It offers an authentic slice of Italian life with a colorful culture all its own.
  • Campania: This region borders the Mediterranean Sea on the country's west coast, and is one of the most widely visited resort areas in the nation. Many Italy cruises include Naples, Campania's capital city, as a port of call. The region's beaches are also popular for a wedding in Italy and make for a storybook Italy honeymoon.

For your Italian holiday, book a vacation rental instead of fussing with a cramped hotel room. Vacation rentals include spacious and comfortable options like villas on the beach, apartments in the city, and cabins in the scenic countryside. You'll find plenty to choose from no matter what your budget and you won't have to sacrifice any of the comforts or amenities of home.

If you want to continue your European adventure, options abound from Italy. Follow the coastline to the west to get to the French Riviera, head north into Switzerland or go east into Slovenia, one of Europe's best-kept secrets.

Il Veliero - ( vicino ICLAS & Golf Rapallo)
Great little place, awesome host!!!

Adorable apartment, very clean, not far from the center street and the promenade. The flat had enough space for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). The kitchen had everything we needed and the bathroom had plenty of towels. There is no AC but the 2 fans provided by Paolo kept us plenty cool. The host (Paolo) was amazing - got us a parking spot in-front of the building (no assigned parking but with a special paper from the host - one can park in the residential zone). Paolo met us, answered all of our questions and showed us the apartment to make sure we are comfortable with everything before he left. We forgot some personal much needed articles which he mailed for us to our next destination per our request (what a great guy ❤️). There is Coop (food market) 3 min walking distance where we got all the snacks and drinks we needed, but one can literally get food and cook it at the apartment since there is cookware provided. If you are from the US - you will need paper towels, napkins (the place had some napkins), condiments (salt and sugar provided as well as several coffee pods for the pod coffee machine), shampoo/conditioner. We loved our Rapallo place - it was cozy and Paolo was super nice! We took the train to Santa Margherita (3 min) and the “little village” was not little at all and AMAZING with its beach, marina, sites and views from the top of the church (Chiesa Di San Giacomo) and garden. We took the bus to Portofino as the ferry was only once every 4 hrs, and the bus was a nightmare ( busses get super full and people push you like crazy to stuff the bus full) DO NOT TAKE THE BUS on the way back during popular times/ season. We recommend taking a cab or wait for the ferry (Portofino was underwhelming - not sure what the hype is all about when S. Margherita is sooooo much more beautiful and big). Rapallo has beautiful marina with private and public beach, yummy food at the local restaurants and bakeries and very friendly locals.see more

OUTSTANDING APT and AREA----Highly recommend

First we want to thank Dorotea for the information she provided and her friendliness via emails. She offered to provide transportation from the airport to apt plus provided someone to meet us with the keys to explain the intricacies of the apartment..very helpful. Secondly, WOW, the photos don't do justice to the apartment, we literally dropped our luggage in the living room and explored. The bedrooms are a nice size with beds that were very comfortable, (needed after walking all day), the kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to cook breakfast or microwave and the bathrooms were large enough to accommodate us. Third, when you walk out the front door, you are right in the middle of the Rome experience, tourists, restaurants, gelato, stores and most importantly the Trevi Fountain. We also found the markets Dorotea told us about which were close. We enjoyed the apartment and area so much that we look forward to booking there again. So Dorotea, see you next year in Oct!see more

Villa Principessa, with Sea Access, Pool and Sea View - by Amalfivacation
Perfection!

From the moment we were picked up at Naples train station, to our return trip to Rome (which included a stop in Positano ) our three day stay at the Villa (and we wish we could have stayed longer) was wonderful. Gorgeous views, beautifully appointed and easy access to the lovely town of Minori - five of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communication was great and we had help with our bags (which given all the stairs was wonderful). As all the reviews have noted, there are lots of stairs - down to the ocean, up to the pool, even inside the villa. And the walk to town includes hills and stairs as well. But you soon become accustomed to it (and it's excellent exercise.....makes it possible to eat the gorgeous pastries and gelato in town!). Speaking of....I highly recommend this villa as well for its proximity to Minori - we were there in October - the end of the season - so except for the weekend - it was pretty quiet - unlike Positano which even at this time of year was overrun with tourists - and to my mind...not nearly as charming as Minori. There are excellent restaurants, pastry shops, coffee (of course) , shops and a great place for pottery.see more
