We have been offering our traditional Cornish Cottages by the beach to generations of families, couples and individuals for their holidays for almost 40 years with many of our guests returning year after year. Vellandreath (also known as Vellan Dreath) is a beautiful, privately owned unspoilt valley designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty by the National trust. Located in by the beach known as Whitesands bay but also known as Sennen beach and Gwynver Beach in Sennen within West Penwith (the Land’s End peninsula) which is the southernmost area of England, and the most picturesque part of Cornwall. It is rich in dramatic beaches, wooded valleys, moorland, rolling farm land, and hidden coves; much of it is designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The far South West is warmed by south westerly breezes from the Azores, and is one of the most unpolluted areas in Britain. It has a special, indefinable quality recognized by locals and visitors alike. Its 144 square miles still supports an active small scale farming and fishing community, with a unique beauty that draws visitors back year after year. The coastline is full of beaches, ranging from safe bathing beaches to secluded coves to wild and rocky places. Some are easily accessible and some less so. Although there are several traditional seaside resorts for family visitors, the area also attracts walkers, naturalists, artists, and anyone seeking a quiet haven, with amenities close by. The sea is crystal clear, jade green, and a comfortable swimming temperature into late autumn. The Land’s End peninsula is in the path of the warm Gulf Stream, and cold weather is rare. Frost and snow are rare, and the climate is ideal for semi-tropical plants, many of which can be seen in Vellandreath’s valley gardens West Penwith also has more ancient sites than any other area of Britain, ranging from stone age to iron age monuments and settlements. These include four stone circles, 90 standing stones, and numerous hill forts, village settlements, quoits, and burial barrows. There are dozens of beaches on the Land’s End peninsula and they are amongst the most unpolluted in Europe. They range from safe, sandy family beaches with life guards to wild and rocky

“Shangri-La”

We had the most idyllic 10 days in the basking shark with our 10 year old Labrador. It really is a little Shangri-La. Coastal path literally on the doorstep and beautiful walk into Sennen where we had… More

“Absolutely fantastic!”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2019

Unbelievably beautiful location! A little steep walk down but once there you wont want to leave! You have everything you need on your doorstep! Views are absolutely stunning. What is better than waking up to the sea! A minute walk down to the beach. (Dog bin on route-extreamly handy) A ten minute walk across the beach when the tide is out or on the coastal path to the local pub. Which we highly suggest you stop by. Days and nights are incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Basking Shark cottage has a view looking right out to sea from where you relax on the comfy leather sofa and from where you sleep in a bed you wont want to get out of. Get your binos out to spot some seals and dolphins known to swim by with total relaxation on your sofa. Facilities are outstanding with everything you could possibly need for a self catering short or long stay. Do take up the offer of tractor luggage service. Cook any meal, wash and dry your clothes with total ease. Note:it has the cutest of baths so if you are rather tall dont expect to lay down without bending your legs, being 5.4 I didnt have trouble though. Constant hot water so your baths can last for longer whilst listening to the sound of the sea. The wifi signal from the cottage is excellent and reaches pretty far-if you can tear yourself away from the view! Underfloor heating worked very well and we never went cold even on a blustery night. Such a lovely spot to wind down in outstanding beauty. Brian the caretaker was so kind and accommodating. Gladly stand and have a chat anytime of day with him. Thank you for an amazing stay and making my 30th birthday even more memorable. Cannot wait to return xx
