“Most enjoyable tropical get away” We stayed in the Cranford's Toucan Suite. Our friends stayed in the upper level suite. The house sits on pristine jungle - the sound and sight of rare birds is a daily occurrence. We could easily walk to the river, explore the grounds which abound with exotic plants.Toucan Suite is the larger of the two units and is fully equipped with linens, kitchen utensils. We were able to borrow and exchange with our upstairs companions for the items that we needed (juicer, coffee grinder, garlic press) but it would be nice to have both kitchens equally stocked. The stove and refrigerator worked well. The issues that we had with staying at the Toucan Suite would be that the fans need to be upgraded. There are two ceiling fans that function well, although the "blue bedroom" fan makes too much noise to sleep through. There were two portable fans; one of them was okay but the other one barely moved the blades and eventually went comatose. Fortunately our friends in the upper unit had powerful ceiling fans and two super powerful portable fans and they lent us one which saved us! I strongly suggest the Cranfords upgrade the fans in the Toucan Suite. The lovely wooden doors that lead from the main floor to the porch area need to be fixed. They are off their track so we were unable to close them when the hot eastern sun shone through. The house would be much cooler if these functioned well. Blondie and Michael have a sign asking that we remove our shoes before entering and I complied with this request the first night. I found the floor really dirty and in the evening the ants, frogs and other insects would come in so we kept our shoes on. The house could use a good cleaning and some general upkeep. The upstairs suite seemed cleaner and because of the fans, cooler. The views from the upstairs suite are to die for. As the Cranfords note, the Internet seldom works consistently. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much and highly recommend the Toucan Suite.

“Perfect Getaway” What an amazing stay we had at Casa Bella. Arriving to the house we were greeted with warm friendly smiles from owners Meghan and her husband Josue. They made us feel so welcome and relaxed immediately. The landscape around the house was beautiful and everything seemed to fit right where it was supposed to. As we walked in the house I noticed immediately how fresh and clean it felt. The room was very comfortable, fresh, and cozy. Exactly what we were looking for. My favorite part of the house was the deck that overlooked beautiful trees. The nature watching is impeccable. I would've of sat on the deck all day everyday if my boyfriend let me. I had a fresh cocktail in my hand constantly and we saw all types of monkeys swing by: Howlers, Capuchin (my favorite) and even squirrel monkeys! Lots of colorful, stunning birds too. The walk to the beach was easy and worth it. Thank God we got the surf lessons for my boyfriend...he really needed it. The staff was so friendly and patient with him. We also did the package where Josue cooked for us. The food had a great presentation and was so flavorful. This experience in the OSa and at Casa Bella was priceless. We were so comfortable, every need taken care of with a smile, and beautiful scenery to top it off. We couldn't have been happier with Casa Bella; great price, amazing service and absolutely stunning. We look forward to our next visit at Casa Bella. Pura Vida

“Great house; great hosts” We spent 4 full days at the Mango Street Casita, had a wonderful experience, and could easily have stayed 4 more days. The house was clean, comfortable, spacious, and felt very safe and secluded even though it is right in the middle of Drake Bay and activities/stores/restaurants are within easy walking distance. Mario and Nichole are dedicated to all aspects of the Drake Bay community, and were very helpful in arranging tours and suggesting other activities such as beaches to visit or walks/hikes to take. They live next door to the casita, but still gave us the privacy we wanted while at the same time being very available to assist us. They even did some grocery shopping on our behalf before we arrived!

The Perfect Stay

During a recent trip down to the Osa Peninsula, my family and I were delighted to find Casa Bella. This vacation rental was the perfect fit for us. The owners were great and helped us out with whatever we needed during our stay and let us know the local attractions around town that we should check out. The actual house was beautiful. Since our family is smaller, we only rented out the top floor. We loved the small touches that the owners included in the decoration and structure. The house was clean and provided the amenities we needed. The best part was how close we were to the beach and the jungle animals we were able to see each day. It was awesome to experience so much Costa Rican beauty, without even having to go off the porch. We will stay at Casa Bella next time we visit!see more

Comfort in a wild, beautiful, and enriching environment

At 71 and 78, we wanted to see the birds we've been amazed by in books and documentaries. Not being inclined to travel in groups (birds don't like crowds either) this setting of solitude was perfect. Blondie's tireless efforts to help us with planning and logistics made it all the easier. This particular 2 story house is perfect for a family. We shared it with 2 friends. They have 2 other houses on the reserve, including their amazing 'tree house'. However, we never noticed their presence. Peace and quiet reigned. The house is fully equipped with anything you'd need, or you can drive to town (15 mins). Jeff is a new addition to their reserve and helped get us out in the jungle right on their reserve. Although Corcovado National Park borders their reserve, to explore any part of the Park is a daunting effort beyond our capabilities. Heat and humidity and terrain present definite limitations for older folks. There was plenty of beauty right where we were. Hearing the Howler monkeys was spooky and awesome as well as the variety of birds viewed from the upper deck. The house itself is a lovely architectural pleasure with all the comforts. Unless you are with family or friends, I wouldn't want to share the upper part with someone down below. Make sure to visit Patrick and Rubyann Dunn at their Osa ave Bird Sanctuary a fun 2 hour drive down the coast and through the jungle. Ask Blondie or Jeff. That was the highlight of our stay. Take them a fresh lunch, beer and Ibuprofen, all things hard to get due to their remote location.see more

Get away from it all, yet be one with nature

When we arrived we were literally greeted by about a dozen white-faced/capuchin monkeys as they made their way through the property! This was a beautiful and serene home base for our family (3 kids, 12 and under) to explore the Osa peninsula. You feel as though you are living outdoors in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, yet you feel completely safe, secure and comfortable (A/C in bedrooms was key!). Walking distance to the beach, center of Puerto Jimenez, bars, restaurants and a grocery store. We all loved the outdoor living and lounging in the hammock -- the TV/DVD player were no match for the awesomeness of the environment. The kids roamed the safe grounds of la Choza del Manglar looking for monkeys, macaws and all the wildlife. Great communication with very friendly and helpful staff/owners who organized our excursions and gave us great insights about what to explore--all of which was spot on...and beyond. We will miss sipping our coffee on the the rooftop terrace looking. English is spoken. If you are looking for a home base to explore all that the peninsula has to offer and be one with nature...then this is the place for you.see more
