O Palheiro Apartment, Faja Grande, Flores, Azores
Ultimate relaxation in a gorgeous setting

We stayed in Neil and Carol's O Palheiro studio flat for almost a week. It's great for 2 people, well equipped and charming. We loved having access to the garden and a patio with views over the village and the sea. We spent hours reading and dreaming. Neil and Carol were so welcoming and helpful. They gave us useful information about shopping, sites and do's and don't's. They also took us on a shopping trip to Lajas following by sightseeing around the coast. Without car it's a little tricky to get around and see anything. They even lent us their car for a day which was fantastic and exiting. In Faja Granda there are 2 shops and a bar in the village, with more down by the harbour. It was sufficient for a week's self-catering. Eating out is not such a treat on the whole. The locals were friendly enough, esp. if they could speak English and you can speak a few words of Portuguese. One shop seemed to have runs tabs for most of the village. It's such a fabulous place, at the edge of the islands, facing nothing but the atlantic to the west. Pace of life is slow and suddenly you notice the little amusing things in life and people. Just be prepared for some changeable weather. At least it's warm! Faja Grandesee more
