Highlands log cabin

“Peaceful and Covnenient” Had a wonderful 3 night stay. New property with a large furnished back porch and mountain view. Less than 3 minutes from downtown, grocery store and restaurants. Furnished tastefully with personal touches that make you feel right at home. All on one floor so it was easy for my 90 year old mom to move around. Fast internet connection. Accommodating owner with quick responses to email questions. I will re-book the next time I am in Highlands as the property exceeded this seasoned traveler's expectations.

Anne's Lakeview Hideaway

Highlands house

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“A large, terrific house” We love this house! This was our fourth summer renting anne's Lakeview Hideaway, and we have been extremely pleased with it. It is well-equipped and easy to live in. The front deck, overlooking forest and lake, is sensational. An added factor for the last few years is a family of dark-eyed junkos--a local bird--have laid eggs which have hatched in a nook by the front door. Our young grandchildren have loved it!

Highlands house

“Cozy & Close to Town” We had an excellent stay in Highlands, thanks in no small part to Lisa & co., and their lovely home. The house is located within walking distance of downtown Highlands (food, drinks, & shopping if that's your thing). Yet, it is also located so that it feels hidden away, as it is nestled in a thicket of trees. The home itself is comfortable and cozy, very well maintained. It's set up is ideal for groups of friends (like ours) or families and can easily accommodate large-ish groups. Lisa was swift, efficient, and very helpful throughout the entire process. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks again Lisa!

Norton Creek Lodge-FALL SPECIAL

Highlands house

4 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 8

“A great weekend at Norton Creek Lodge” We had a wonderful weekend and loved the accommodations. Our group included me, my son and daughter-in-law and daughter and her significant other. In addition, we had two big and very old dogs. We had plenty of room. The house has two master bedrooms with private bath on either end of the house, with the living and dining area in between. We had lots of together time and lots of privacy. We most enjoyed the lovely porch - with lots of comfortable seating - that overlooked a running creek. Everything was convenient, clean and up to date. The location at first seemed a bit remote - on the map. But it turned out to be an easy drive into town and to hiking spots. We loved it.

3 BR Cabin with Spectacular Whiteside Mt. View

Highlands house

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Best Value” We had a great time at Wee Meadow. It was what we expected and more. The cabin provided everything we needed. The view of Whiteside Mountain was incredible, and we especially enjoyed the secluded forest area in which the cabin is situated. Arguably, the best part about it was the price. Unless you are looking for something really ritzy, it is hard to imagine a better bang for your buck than the WeeMeadow cabin. I certainly didn't see any better deals in my search for the perfect weekend getaway. Hope to return in the future. Thank you very much!

“Best House Ever!!” We stayed for a week and a half. I had my teenage son and his friend with us. This house was exactly what we wanted! Big screened in porch with trees surrounding us, very roomy living room, and very clean! The downstairs was a haven for the kids...they had their own living room, two bedrooms and a full bath. I can't say enough about this house! We came up to Highlands for some peace and tranquility, and that is what this house provided. I would love to come up and stay an entire month! We will definitely go through the Chambers agency again. When we arrived at the house, there was a bag of goodies from them waiting for us! I would have to say this was the best vacation we have ever had.

Highlands house

“July 4th 2014” The location of this home was fabulous we walked to town two or three times a day. The house was very cozy, private, and the back porch was spectacular. We ate all meals out there...a bit chilly in the evening as it was right in the woods. The gas fireplace started with a click of a button and all TV's worked great. The furniture and all furnishings were hand selected for this cabin and were quite unique. The other homes on this secluded street were nice too and the jacuzzi and outdoor fire pit were enjoyed by all.

Highlands house

“Perfect home for family wedding party and mini vacation” This 5 bedroom, 4 bath home was perfect for our family group of ten for my son's wedding in Highlands, NC. The two levels made it perfect to set up the downstairs for our young granddaughters' movies, tv, and toys. Fabulous decks and outstanding view with no obstructions. You are on top of the mountain with views that go on forever. The kitchen was very well stocked and lacked nothing. The best thing about this home was having everyone together in a beautiful, well-furnished home for our happy occasion. The driveway was challenging. The Chambers agency is so great to work with and they attend to all your needs with a smile. We will definitely rent from them again. Soon I hope! By the way, the homeowner was very friendly and helpful.

“Beautiful bed and breakfast, very clean and great inn keepers ma” The surrounding beauty of the area and cool temps for us Floridians make this a great place to be. Chris and Donna know the area and willingly share their knowledge. There is plenty to do in the way of walks, hiking, drives or just sitting on the porch enjoying the view (and some of Donna's treats). Not a place for children, but then most bed and breakfasts aren't. The little apartment is well equipped and nice for those who want to be on their own but still enjoy the amenities of the inn. Breakfasts are delicious! We have no bests because everything was a "best". There are no least likes!

About Highlands

The Highlands area of North Carolina and the surrounding towns of Aberdeen, Southern Pines and Pinehurst are considered the first home of American golf. Golfers travel here from all over to experience Highlands courses created by famous designers and groomed to emerald green perfection.

But there are also many other attractions here that are not to be missed. The Highlands are a perfect family vacation destination, offering pristine beaches, winding hiking and biking trails, beautiful waterfalls, and fun attractions for children of all ages.

There are also a variety of museums and cultural sites to explore here. Visit the museums and wander through the quaint shopping districts. When your feet are tired, experience the world-class relaxation and pampering at a luxury spa.

Each night after the sun goes down, take advantage of some of the best seafood restaurants and energetic nightspots in North Carolina. Come to the Highlands to play, relax, leave your worries behind and make some lasting memories.

Here are a few additional suggestions as you plan your trip:

  • Visit the Dry Falls Park: This is one of the easier scenic hikes in the area with a shorter trail and manageable grade. For a more challenging hike with an equally beautiful waterfall destination point, try Bridal Veil Falls.
  • Go rock climbing: Whiteside Mountain draws rock climbers of all experience levels. This is a perfect place to learn if you're a beginner or challenge your skills if you're an expert.
  • Go trout fishing: The rivers and lakes around the Highlands area are serene and picturesque, and they're a perfect place to idle away the afternoon fly fishing or casting your line from a boat.
  • Explore the art galleries: The Highlands are home to some fantastic local and regional artists and sculptors, and many galleries open their doors to the public all summer long.
  • Visit the Highlands Biological Station and Botanical Gardens: This beautiful nature center and research area houses over 450 species of ferns, trees and blooming plants.
  • See a show: See a live theatrical performance at the Highlands Playhouse, a friendly and intimate local venue.

As you schedule your trip to the Highlands, you'll want to find a place to stay that that's relaxing and luxurious and also offers easy access to your favorite activities. Find a cabin with a fireplace if you plan to arrive during the winter and snowshoe along the trails. If you're looking for a family summer vacation rental, find a condo or elegant ocean villa just steps away from the beach.

Heaven

We stayed at Lloyd's Lookout for a week and did not want to leave. The home sits on the side of the mountain and has a great wrap around deck for relaxing and enjoying nature. Very comfortable home that sleeps 8 people. Close enough to town but far enough away to feel like you are in the trees. We will be coming back soon to stay here.see more

Moss Hill Cottage
Lovely Highlands Cottage

Moss Cabin was a great place to stay! The beds are comfy (1 king, 1 queen), two full bathrooms (tub+shower) with great water pressure, A/C, fireplace, living room with couch and 2 chairs, huge dining room table, large brand new porch, and a kitchen with pots/pans/etc. The cabin itself is older, but the kitchen and bathrooms are updated and it is well cared for. The cabin is located ~5-10min drive from town, very close to the skyline lodge. There is wireless internet which worked great (password at the cabin), and we were happy to find that we had great cell phone service throughout the cabin (AT&T).see more
Walk to town from beautiful single story home
Very spacious yet cozy in a nice neighborhood setting

Shelby House was well furnished and has a well equipped kitchen. The outside sunroom, deck, and lawn are well maintained for outdoor dining. The entire house was very clean but the bathrooms need to be updated. Not only was the owner very helpful with any questions asked before and during our stay but also prepared the house by welcoming us with fresh flowers and delicious muffins. We enjoyed our stay and hope to go back again. Thank you John!see more
Creekside at Glen Falls
Great Home! Magical, dreamy and like a fairy-tale

This was a lovely home from the inside-out. The creek running along the home was beautiful and peaceful. Pictures online don't capture the full beauty of the home as the scenery was magical, dreamy and like a fairy-tale. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Initially it was a little difficult booking the home as we did not hear back from the agency for over a week, but once we heard back and booked it, customer service was very good. 5-10 min walk to great hiking at Glenfalls. The bedrooms and bathrooms had plenty of sheets and towels. The kitchen was well supplied with pots, pans, etc. We would stay here again. Wonderful vacation. Thank you! see more
