Slow Pace Cottage in the heart of Black Mountain

Black Mountain cottage

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Comfortable and cozy; an excellent place to stay.” My wife and I have been to Asheville many times, but our trip to Black Mountain made for one of our best mountain escapes. The owner was timely and responsive to our questions regarding the rental, and the booking process was effortless. Upon arrival we were greeted with a clean, welcoming house outfitted with fresh flowers and great bottle of wine to kick off a couples weekend away. The house had everything we needed and more. We even hosted friends that live in the Asheville area effortlessly with a bonfire, great games the house provided, and local beer we were able to walk right next door to purchase. It was like being in our own house but with the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop. We found the short walk to downtown Black Mountain especially convenient. We weren't initially familiar with the town, but really enjoyed great food at Louise's, Black Mountain Ale House, Dark City Pub, and the Dripolator coffee house. We actually never took the short trip into Asheville because we found great food and plenty to do right in the heart of Black Mountain. Even our day of mountain biking didn't require us to leave the area. We were able to navigate nearby trails with help of trails maps that were posted in the house. It is like the owners of Slow Pace anticipated our needs before we even had a chance to ask. We will definitely make this cottage our go to place for the Asheville area for years to come.

Cabin in the Clouds

Black Mountain house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Awesome view, great value” We spent 3 nights at the cabin and loved it. We had a bit of trouble figuring out that the street that has a sign calling it E. State Street is Old US 70, but once we figured that out, we got the hang of finding our way to the cabin. I wouldn't suggest making the drive for the 1st time in the dark. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the back porch every day for the amazing sunset. Despite having only 1 bedroom, the cabin feels bigger due to the open kitchen/dining/living space. We didn't cook but the appliances and kitchen seemed well equipped. I did have to contact the owner because I couldn't get the tv to display any channels. Unfortunately he didn't return my call (I left a voicemail) and I called again the next day. When I reached Larry the next day, he put me in touch with a local caretaker and I was able to resolve the issue over the phone. It might be helpful for the owner to leave a back up local number if for some reason you can't reach him. In this case, it was a minor issue so no problem. Overall, I would highly recommend this cabin as it is exactly as described.

“Wonderful vacation spot” This is a great place to stay--even in the dead of winter! Well equipped kitchen (I like to prepare my own meals), great views with the sun streaming in the windows, everything in working order as described in the writeup. Nice location in town. “This was the best house I've ever rented” Monica and John have provided a house in a great location and with everything that you could need for your stay. I was there to find a long term rental and a lot to build on because we are moving to Black Mountain in July. Monica provided me with the name of her realtor who turned out to be very helpful There are great restaurants in town and everyone I met was friendly and helpful. After very busy days this house and its front porch were the perfect place to come back to and relax

“Exceptional in Every Way!!!!” My husband and I cannot say enough about this cabin!!! The cabin and grounds were immaculately kept. The cabin was cozy, well-appointed and close to restaurants and Black Mountain shops. Above all, the owners were accommodating and thoughtful when we were concerned that we would have to make changes to our reservation due to the approach of hurricane Matthew (we live in coastal NC). The location of the home is ideal; it is in town yet tucked away so that windows can be opened at night and road traffic cannot be heard. Our pets enjoyed the wonderful outdoor pen that was provided as well! My husband and I did not want to leave. We had an amazing stay here and cannot wait to return. THANK YOU for providing such a wonderful place for us to vacation!!! I most highly recommend staying here!

“Amazing” Absolutely loved this place. Felt like home in that it was si cozy and inviting, but yet had breathtaking views. we did not want to leave. Driveway was daunting the first time, but after the first time was not a problem. The housekeeper did a great job of leaving the cabin in great condition. Location was great..minutes from grocery store and restaurants. I will definitely stay here again.

“Great, convenient location” Renee' was very helpful and patience when with me when I was making my reservation in recommending a house in an area that would be easy to get to since we had a lot of planned activity requiring us to be in and out over our long week-end. We arrived on Friday, after the office closed. Our key was there and it was easy to find the house, based on the directions. When we arrived we were please to find a delicious loaf of banana bread, a roll of paper towels and a role of tissue paper to get us started. Also, there was liquid dishwashing detergent, dishwashing detergent for the dishwasher, and laundry detergent/fabric softener sheets. We did find the patio a mess, covered in leaves and grime, only 4 washcloths for 8 people, soiled bedspread in master and trouble getting connected to Wi-Fi and the TV (our son was able to figure it out for us. When we tried the next morning to call the office it did not direct us to an extension so we just left a voicemail. So, that being said, my husband and son cleaned the patio so we could use it to grill out(and we gave out of gas before we completely finished cooking), and washed the bedspread and washed washcloths between showers. We also went out and got a few light bulbs to replace some lamps that were out. When I turned in the keys they were very apologetic about not getting our call until Mon and told me that if I had gone to an extension and left a message, someone was always on call and would have called me back. Recommendation is to provide that in writing on the information renters receive regarding checking in and out, only the number of the office was available. All of that being said, we loved the development, the home was very comfortable for all of us, loved the front porch, especially in the morning when having a cup of coffee and the evening when having a glass of wine. We have a son who lives in the area so will definitely be using Greybeard again! Thanks Greybeard and Renee'

Winnie's Place

Black Mountain house

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Peace and tranquility in a house with personality” We loved this house! Winnie has some art work in it that just plays the mood. The setting is ideal for rest and relaxations. Nestled in the woods, neighbors are right next door on either side but you don't notice because of the quiet, the woods, the streams of water. What I also noticed is everyone who was on that street respected the area. No shouting, no car doors slamming in the middle of the night. The bed was comfortable. The kitchen was outfitted with excellent cookware, dishes, glassware, etc. The fireplace was gas and on by the flip of a switch. Swinging in the porch swing with one of us or lying in front of the fireplace, our 4 legged child had a blast. Greybeards was more than accommodating and friendly and helpful and completely non intrusive. Thank you for 3 days of rest and relaxation and we will be back!

“Exquisite!!” We cannot even describe how amazing our stay was at Ravenscroft. The location was perfect; the cabin was immaculate; it was as if they knew exactly how we would design and decorate our cabin and had it done just for our visit. My girlfriend and I fell in love with this place. We fell in love with the town and the people. We can't wait to come back and stay longer. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to get away and explore the beauty of Western North Carolina. Thank you! Cheers!

“We had a wonderful stay and would love to go back” I just want to say that we had a wonderful stay. It is a very clean, well decorated, warm, and welcoming home. We felt like staying at our own home. We all loved it. The owners are very thoughtful that the house has everything one can possibly need for a relaxed stay. The view from the front porch was just marvelous. We would like to go back to this lovely house in the future. We were somewhat concerned about the steep driveway before our arrival but actually it wasn't that bad after we parked our car in the middle of the driveway. Thanks so much for your fine service, and the delicious pumpkin bread is also quite delightful.

Sterling Retreat

Black Mountain house

“Great place” We enjoyed our stay at Sterling Retreat. Great location with fantastic view and all. Easy to make all the arrangements - great, helpful staff at Greybeard Rentals. Only problem that we had was when the power went out there were no candles to light so we could see what we were doing! There was a flash light, but candles would have been really really handy!! And a sharp axe would have been good too to help cut the fire wood into kindling to make a fire (was getting cold with no power even though it was only out for a short time) Other than that we had a lovely stay in this wonderful location. Had some lovely friendly dogs come and visit us too, this made our visit even more homely!

“Beautiful View!” If you are looking for a great mountain view near the quaint town of a Black Mountain you will like this one. It has two living areas, each with a fireplace. It is also handicap friendly. The upstairs fireplace was not working properly. This was my only gripe. The kitchen was great for cooking our chef inspired New Orleans cuisine. About Black Mountain

Come to Black Mountain, North Carolina for a classic vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Often called North Carolina's Front Porch, Black Mountain and the neighboring towns of Montreat and Swannanoa welcome visitors with friendly Appalachian hospitality, breathtaking vistas, mirror lakes and crystal clear mountain waterfalls.

If you're like many of the visitors who come here every year, you'll want to put on your hiking shoes and head into the wilderness. Explore the vast green mountain landscape that extends for miles in every direction around Montreat and Ridgecrest. Hike, bike, or go horseback riding to stunning overlooks and mountain peaks shrouded in rolling mist. Witness some of the most dramatic views along the Appalachian range and spot elusive wildlife species like black bear, red foxes and otters.

Black Mountain is also the home of Chimney Rock Park, a vital stop on the iconic American road trip. Go rock climbing near Grandfather Mountain, take a rafting trip down the Nantahala River, or just spend an afternoon in total relaxation at a luxury spa or playing a round of golf on the public course. And at the end of the day, enjoy the award winning restaurants downtown.

Here are a few additional suggestions as you plan your trip:

  • Take a walk around Lake Tomahawk: Take a sunset walk around this popular lake in the town's central park.
  • Hike the trails: Try a short hike to Lookout Point or spend the whole day on a strenuous trek across the Seven Sisters mountain range.
  • Come for the Ultra Marathon: Visit Black Mountain to run or just cheer on the participants. The marathon happens every February and extends from Lake Tomahawk all the way up Mt. Mitchell.
  • Go shopping: Stroll the many upscale galleries and Appalachian style craft stores in Black Mountain and charming historic Montreat.
  • Visit the Folk Art Center and the Local Craft Guild: Local craftsmen in Black Mountain specialize in ironwork, bowl turning and pottery throwing.
  • Take a drive along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway: Stop at the beautiful Craggy Gardens, see the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the tallest peak in the eastern US, and look south along the parkway to see Cold Mountain, made famous in the book by Charles Frazier.

You'll never run out of fun activities and beautiful things to see here. Luckily, finding a vacation rental in Black Mountain is easy, no matter what time of year you visit. Book a cozy cabin, a lakeside villa, or a condo close to the center of town with access to dining, shopping and all the comforts of home.

Quiet...comfortable...perfect!

Everything was just as advertised and the owners, Angie and Cass, were lovely and kind. You will find that it is outfitted with all that you will need: Comfy bed/hot shower - TV/DVD player - Fully equipped kitchen. This would be an ideal spot for a couple or individual (especially if one needed a quiet writing/contemplation space). If you are attending a conference at Montreat, save yourself from the "heard" and do yourself a favor, book your accommodation here. You will be glad you did.see more
