“Beautiful location, perfect cottage, true relaxation - bliss!” The cottage was first class, cosy and suited our needs completely. The owners were extremely welcoming and provided us with information about the area. Literature was also available in the cottage. The cottage had every implement you could wish for when cooking. We were fortunate enough to stay the last week in March when the country had very hot weather - early mini heatwave! We left the car most days and walked the Dales Way, over stiles, through the sheep and met lots of locals to chat with. Ilkley was lovely, beer cheap in Weatherspoons! We have already booked again for next year!

“Wonderful” When we arrived at Wheelhouse, we were immediately met by our hostess who could not have been more helpful. On opening the door to this immaculate cottage, we entered a spacious hallway and with billowing curtains...it was a hot sunny day the 1st week of June, so Sharon had opened the windows and patio doors to let the air circulate for us. It was perfect! a welcome, balloon, bottle of wine and other goodies were left for us. It was The nicest cottage we have stayed in. All 3 bedrooms were big, airy and comfortable. Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities and the living room room/ kitchen opens up onto a private courtyard with table, chairs and an umbrella for shade. The cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated, not too fussy with too many ornaments to break! all in all, it was a perfect holiday destination.

“Lovely cottage and gardens” Lovely cottage, gardens and orchard and and Paul could not have been nicer. His restoration of the property was excellent and great attention was paid to little details inside the cottage. There was more than enough matching cutlery and dishes and all that one would require. The location was quiet and sheltered and we enjoyed our stay. Anyone wishing to go to York would be wise to take advantage of the Park and Ride system. We liked the cottage and Paul best and no negative points except if one only wanted a drink or a pub meal one would need to use the car.

“Luxurious home from home” Had a fabulous stay in this lovely cottage in March 2012. The weather was sunny and warm and we had some fabulous walks both on the beach, the pennine way and the surrounding countryside. The cottage and all its facilites are excellent and the enclosed back garden was a real plus and brilliant for our dog. The cottage is situated in a lovely position with some great walks around the area and some lovely dog friendly pubs. The only addition I would recommend to the owners of the cottage is a large rug in the lounge area as the floor was freezing even when the heating was on. Would highly recommend this cottage and we hope to return again.

“lots to do” This was an excellent place to stay, lots of places to eat and good food to buy. Lots of lovely places to visit. really enjoyed Bolton castle and trip on train as well as quiet days only gazing out at the moors. The army, god bless them for keeping us safe, were never a problem. They keep this area like it was 30 years ago, no development or houses built in the countryside. The house was warm, the beds comfortable, pub at Downholm had great food and was very busy, a must as was the Italian restaurant in Richmond. I loved the view of Walburn Hall. Most memorable, hope to return.

About Yorkshire

Yorkshire, England's largest county, comprises four main areas; the City of York, North Yorkshire, West Riding and East Riding. The largest area is North Yorkshire, covering nearly 3,500 square miles. Yorkshire's landscape is picturesque and varied, including three national parks. The county is very welcoming with the local's Yorkshire wit, friendliness and humor a reason to visit in itself. It is home to vast swathes of unspoiled countryside, littered only with picturesque villages and genteel towns. For vibrant and lively areas, head to Leeds or Sheffield. Yorkshire also represents history - every facet of the British experience is represented here, from Roman times, to the Celtic tribes, to the War of the Roses, to the 20th century.

Things to do in Yorkshire

Yorkshire has endless attractions and activities for a short or an extended stay. First and foremost, driving through the hills and dales of the countryside is an activity unto itself - stopping for a picnic or taking pictures help to commit long lasting memories. From the Moors to the Dales, to east, south or west the Yorkshire area ‘wows' with its beauty. A hike, bicycle ride, a swim in a lake or river, or a day of sports is more than enough for a fun-filled week.

The cities and towns of Yorkshire offer plenty to see and do as well. Millions of visitors to the National Railway Museum in York have experienced the majesty and history of this form of transportation. The National Cole Mining Museum in Overton, a staple of British economy in the Industrial Revolution, is also a must-see. In Huby, watch falcons and hawks soar at the York Bird of Prey Centre. Stroll through the peaceful Royal Water Garden in Ripon or see the amazing planes at the Vulcan Experience in Doncaster. York especially has architecture, museums, man-made masterpieces and plenty of history to see.

ST. JOHNS COTTAGE, stone-built cottage, tastefully furnished, WiFi, Penistone
Superb cottage on the doorstep of wonderful countryside

No need to look further, this is the one, St Johns Cottage is really warm and welcoming, beautifully light and airy, fabulously decorated and yet retains all the comfortable cottage features one would expect from a home of this age. The owners are delightful and are very hands on in respect of doing all they can to make sure you enjoy your stay. Poor a glass of wine and relax.see more
The Owl Barn Cottage, Nr York
Hidden gem!

This was our second stay at Owl Barn Cottage. The cottage itself is tastefully & very comfortablely furnished, spotlessly clean and well equipped for self-catering. It's in an ideal, peaceful location with easy access to York via the Park & Ride only 5 miles away. Plenty to see and do in the area for all interests. However, if you want to find a place to just chill out, the cottage is perfect. There is a large, private patio area which is a bit of a sun-trap when the weather is nice. There is also a hot tub to really help you relax & unwind, while watching the birds or stargazing at night. Barry & Margaret are lovely hosts and ensured we had everything we needed, without being intrusive. We didn't want to go home & will definitely go back again. Thank-you.see more

2 rock cottage
Cosy base for exploring a beautiful part of the country

Rock Cottage is a delightful and character filled cottage nestled in the Yorkshire Dales. Upstairs the bedroom has wonderful views across the valley and there's an excellent shower in the bathroom. Downstairs the living room is comfortable and snug in front of the fire, the kitchen has everything (and more) that you'd need and there's a second bedroom with dining space. With the cottage being in Oxenhope it's perfect if you want to enjoy the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and offers an excellent jumping off point into Brontë country as well as the rest of West Yorkshire. It's great if you want to take a baby - we stayed with our 8 month old son and he enjoyed 'playing' with the model train set and enjoying the space to crawl about. The only wrinkle was with the travel cot as it wasn't the most comfortable for him; we have suggested to John that he might want to replace it but every baby sleeps differently so it could be fine for you. Looking forward to having a reason to stay here again!see more
Traditional Cosy Chalk Stone Cottage, Puffins Nest
Puffins Nest, is a charming, period stone cottage in the heart of Flamborough

We received a warm welcome from Helen on arrival at Puffins Nest. Car parking was easy, just outside the front door. The cosy period cottage is spotlessly clean, in the heart of Flamborough. There are a number of pubs and shops within walking distance. It was an ideal base for exploring Bempton Cliffs, Filey, Bridlington and surrounding coastal resorts. The cottage was also a great starting pointing for a number of picturesque walks, which took us along the wonderful coast line. We would not hesitate to recommend Puffins Nest and Helen is an excellent, informative host.see more
Bramble Cottage at Bogridge Farm Cottages
Simply the best!

Wonderful place! The cottage is delightfully and tastefully decorated, with a kitchen and bathrooms updated to the finest designs. When we arrived, Emma had set out fresh eggs from her own chickens, a bowl of fruit (apples, bananas, kiwi, oranges), biscuits, tea, coffe, and milk...things we could refresh ourselves after a long journey. During the mornings before leaving to tour the Dales, we spent time on the large patio, enjoying a cup of coffee. Emma was a wonderful host with good recommendations for places to eat. I would strongly recommend Bramble Cottage to anyone who wants to visit this area of Yorkshire and hope that we get an opportunity to return.see more
