Description from owner

Description

The house is located 3 miles west from the vibrant village of Glenbeigh, at the end of a secluded un-surfaced cul-de sac which adjoins a public footpath about 250 metres to the coast. This footpath was originally used to access the shore line for harvesting Carrageen moss, a former cottage industry.

Knockatinna is 1.5 mile by car from the well known Blue Flag sandy beach at Rossbeigh with its children's playground and sports area, horse riding, surfing etc. The footway at the bottom of the drive offers an amazing alternative route to Rossbeigh beach by foot. The house is located on the 'Kerry Way' with well documented local walks directly from the house, including Coomersaharn Lake.

The house has been recently constructed with all modern conveniences. It sleeps 4 plus one baby or toddler. It is surrounded by lawn, with ample parking and access to a further 3 acres overlooking Dingle Bay and Peninsula.

Further details

A welcome pack is provided on arrival, including a starter pack for the open fire or stove. Short breaks or alternative change-over days can be discussed with the owner.

There are two downstairs bedrooms, one double (kingsize bed) and one with two singles. Cot, highchair, etc are also available for those with young families. There is a stair-gate fitted to the bottom of the staircase leading to the upstairs bathroom. There is one bathrooms upstairs with a separate bath and electric shower and another one downstairs. “Spiritual reboot”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2020

Fabulous hosts, house and location. You couldn’t ask for more. A beautiful rural escape on the Kerry Way allowing for hours of quiet walking over the Kerry mountains. A private trek down the mountain from the house leads directly to a pebble beach where I watched a solitary seal bobbing around in the sea watching me watching him! A break that will reboot even the flattest of souls!

“Comfortable and well-equipped house for exploring the Kerry countryside”

Reviewed 26 May 2013

We had a great spring holiday at Knockatinna with our two kids 10 and 8 years old. The house is a two-hour drive away from Cork airport, and is beautifully and quietly located in the hills just west of Glenbeigh, close to Dingle bay and Rossbeigh beach. We were heartily welcomed by the very friendly parents of the owner, who live a few hundreds of meters further up the road. The house is very well equipped, containing all the necessary equipment and basic ingredients for home cooking, lots of books and DVDs, and extensive documentation for planning day-trips. We particularly enjoyed the fireplace, which provided a cosy atmosphere during the chilly evenings even though the weather was quite good during the whole week. From the house there is 15-minute descent towards a cobblestone beach. We used the house as a basis for several activities, including hiking in the surroundings and near Killarney, and day trips to Valencia Island and Dingle. The Irish coastline here is stunningly beautiful, with its green hills, its cliffs and the several small islands. We can highly recommend this house if you intend to explore the Kerry countryside!

“"Hope to return"”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2012

We really enjoyed our stay at Knockatinna and this was enhanced by good weather (which always helps). The cottage was one of the best we have stayed at - clean, very well equipped and set in beautiful and quiet surroundings. It was a great location to explore the Ring of Kerry and especially the fantastic beaches. Plenty of places to visit and walks nearby. The owner's parents live just half a mile from the cottage and we were kindly invited to visit one evening (partaking in Kathleen's legendary 'Irish Coffees' which was worth the trip alone!). We would certainly recommend this cottage to family and friends.
