Zafferana Etnea is an Italian municipality of about 9,000 inhabitants is 574 m s.l.m., on the eastern slopes of Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Extends to the Summit of the volcano peak, including in its territory of inestimable naturalistic beauty landscapes, from dense forests to vast expanses of lava desert.
Is one of the municipalities of Mount Etna regional park and in its territory includes the three major valleys that second hypothesis are credited the testimony of the sequence of the genesis of the volcano: Valle del Bove, Val Calanna and Valle San Giacomo.
The village lies in a Valley at the foot of the Pomiciaro mountains (1715 m above sea level), Zoccolaro (1739 m above sea level) and Cosimo (1178 m. above sea level), arranged in long parallel to the Ionian coast, on which the sea looks like a terrace.
Located in a pleasant location for lovers of tranquility and nature, is a few miles from major centres (Catania 24.6 km, Taormina, Acireale 36.6 km 13.7 km) and is located halfway between the sea and the mountain.
Zafferana is one of the gateways to the volcano, Etna road that connects it to the Rifugio Sapienza tourist station (Nicolosi) on the one hand, and the Piano Provenzana (Linguaglossa) on the other.SPORTS.

We spend the last 2 weeks of December 2015 in this great apartment. It was just a short walk to the center of Zafferana and it was clean and comfortable. We would definitely go back.
