“Beautiful home in lovely setting.”
This home had all the amenities to make our family comfortable. We loved sitting on the patio in the morning watching hummingbirds and listening to howler monkeys in the distance. The extensive DVD collection was a hit with our kids during some of our down time. The location near the town of Nuevo arenal was nice for short trips to the grocery store and many restaurants.
“A Bit of Paradise”
We rented Casa Gavilan for three weeks. Each day was such a joy. The house is very comfortable and the garden is delightful. I looked forward to getting up each morning to enjoy the birds and the howler monkeys! The property manager Ed Woods was extremely helpful, responsive and kind. Nuevo arenal is a delightful little town with a surprising number of delicious restaurants. I can't waIt to go back.
“Home away from home in paradise!”
We've stayed at Casa Gavilan for 7 years in a row now and wouldn't dream of going anyplace else for our winter escape! The location, service and attention to detail are all superb. The house has everything you could possibily need to make you feel at home. The yard is absolutely lovely. The owners have recently added an outdoor terrace overlooking the pool, which is absolutely fabulous! Make sure you feed the birds plenty of fruit and they'll put on a good show for you. The house is in a nice area with just a short drive to any of the local restaurants and shops. You can't go wrong renting this house!
“Beautiful and relaxing”
Casa Gavilan is a beautiful home with an over the top comfort rating. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. We loved watching the birds enjoy the fruit we put in the front yard. The hosts were very friendly and great about answering questions we had. The neighbors were freindly and willing to share their knowledge of the area as well. We felt safe and well cared for. The only down side is that it is over 45 minutes away from LaFortuna were a lot of the tours took place. You would need a rental car to stay here. In all we were very satisfied.
“This is the perfect place to experience Costa Rica!!”
This was a "girl's" trip with 4 of my wonderful friends, and it was even better than I could ever imagine. The house was perfect and in a wonderful location for experiencing Costa Rica. The property managers, Ed and Leslie, were absolutely wonderful! This was my third trip to Costa Rica and was the best. The weather in Nuevo arenal is cooler than other areas and very pleasant. The house was in a lovely area, and the grounds were immaculate and beautiful. We saw lots of birds on the feeders in the yard. Nuevo arenal has really good restaurants and a good variety. We also enjoyed just staying in, relaxing, and enjoying the view. I can't think of anything that could have been better. It was a fabulous week, and I'm looking forward to returning in the future with my husband. What I liked best -- the fabulous house in a fabulous location. As far as what I liked least --- the stay was too short!
“beatiful home in the jungle”
great holiday fully equiped house the nature walk around the house was great we saw all types of animals and birds on the nature walk great hosts with lots of good local information holiday of a life time the house is one hour drive from La Fortuna
“a Wondeful week in Costa Rica”
We had a great time in Costa Rica. Casa Gavilan was beautiful and met all of our expectations. We used the house as home base while we explored CR. Ed was very helpful in helping us plan our adventures. He also helped us jump start our car when we woke up to a dead battery.
“A home away from home in a fantastic place”
Ed was a tremendous host. He greeted us, explained everything we needed to know, and made sure we had everything we needed and more. The home is fantastic. It is located on a good sized private lot, on the side of a hill, with a great, lush green view. We enjoyed eating, playing cards, and observing birds at the outside table on the patio. We just used the pool a couple of times, in part because it was rather cold (it was being topped up because of a leak). The new outdoor terrace is a nice addition that we enjoyed. * The indoors is nicer than our home. It is big, and a large, attractive and nicely furnished kitchen and living room. If you think of something that you could use - it is there (including the blender we counted on for making pina coladas). There is even a very large collection of well organized DVD movies to choose from. We only used 2 of the three good sized rooms, each of which has its own ensuit (nice privacy). The home is also very secure, so we felt very safe (although we saw no reason not to). We saw lots of birds in the yard (expecially humming birds) and were visited a few times by a koati. We also saw many interesting insects, almost all on the outside (although there were a few millipedes and ants in the house). We heard howler moneys many times, but didn't see any. (But we actually saw some on our drive back towards Tilaran.) Neuvo arenal is close by, and has a good grocery store, bank, etc. We enjoyed a couple of trips to the arenal area: we did a 2 hour hike near the volcano; we drove along an isolated road near the dam (and saw spider monkeys). We also enjoyed a horseback ride at the EcoLodge right near the house. We prepared most of our meals in the house, but did enjoy supper at the Gingerbread (worth the higher prices), and brunch at the Lady Bug (very nice and friendly owner). We really enjoyed our stay at Ian and Lynn's home and highly recommend it others.
“Paradise in arenal”
We just completed a wonderful 2 week vacation in Costa Rica. We spent our first week in arenal and stayed at this wonderful property. It's located in a quiet neighborhood just outside of Nuervo arenal and is beyond belief. On a daily basis, we would have pleasure of seeing everything from amazing Toucans to the Howler monkeys traveling through the trees. The property is just as described and very well furnished. It suitable for families or a group of adults as well. Ed, who is the property manager was very nice and helpful. He was there for any questions you might have or for help if you have issues with the property. This is a great location to venture out from and explore the wonders of Costa Rica. Everything is within your grasp from here if you have a rental car. Don't let the fact that you haven't driven there before stop you, get the rental car and just do it, you will be so happy that you did. Anything from zip lining to cave exploration to white water rafting is easily reachable from here. And when your done for the day, its really nice if you hired the local chef to cook for you. Jeff was an awesome individual along with his assistant Jamie. They will cook up some of the best meals you can hope to enjoy while in Costa Rica. Every meal was wonderful. They would adjust their daily schedule based on what you were doing for the day. We hired them for the entire week to cook both breakfast as well as dinner and it was worth every penny. All I can say is this is a wonderful property and you will not be disappointed in renting it or hiring Jeff and Jamie. Pura Vida
“Exciting, inviting, settling and pure experience of paradise!”
Thank you, Ian and Lynn for sharing their beautiful home with us. We had our elderly parents with us, the house and the beauty around it was so spectacular that they felt very happy and safe. We enjoyed the house inside and out. There was everything there that we might want for our one week stay. Comfortable beds, plenty of linen, washer and dryer, fully functional kitchen, we used it a lot. The nights were spent watching Dvds, excellent collection, fun, perfect for family. Fresh floral arrangements were very much appreciated. The outside, well, one has to see it to believe it. We used the pool a lot and the outside sitting was nice. Enjoyed the hummingbirds, toucans, and several other birds as well. Internet access was nice, checked the hourly weather every day. The location was fine, went to La Fortuna a lot, we had a rental car so that was very convenient. Monteverde was a long and bumpy haul, but we managed, thanks to our awesome driver and guide. Best Pizza at Majo, very nice experience. Grocery stores were not in a walking distance but was not a problem for us. The landscape of the house is beautiful with the view of the lake and birds and monkeys adding to the tone. My entire family thanks Ed for being a good manager, thanks for getting us the roll away bed. Leslie your input for planning the activities was very helpful and Benitia our help was amazing. The activities we did were, zip line in Monteverde, boat ride in arenal lake, ATV in La Fortuna, hiked by the arenal volcano, hot springs at Los Lagos, enjoyed the school fund raiser in Fortuna, the La Fortuna falls is spectacular even though it was a tough hike. We continued to Guanacaste for the next week and it was also spectacular, especially the blue river. We enjoyed the country, the people, their culture, their vegetarian food_Casado, their fruits, their wildlife, various forests and the volcanoes and the mountains.
