“Amazing House - Amazing Experience as always!”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2014

Uvita has become our consistent travel destination and the Clark's are a big reason why! The house is set upon a beautiful outlook about 3.5 km up the mountain from the main intersection in Uvita. The fauna and flora can't be beat, every morning we had a few families of monkeys jumping through the property. I highly recommend the home and the surrounding area. A few activities we consider a must, Hacienda Baru, Kayaking in Sierpe, Mangroves, and hiking up and down the river a short walk away from the property. Please contact Lynn to make your reservations!! One note, we always go to Uvita/Ojochal in January, we have not had a rainy day yet! Be sure to have a 4x4. Pura Vida!

“Rainforest Central”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

My family and I were in casa toucan for a week during the month of July. It was an amazing experience. You must have a 4x4 to get up there. The way up is very steep but that is of course since the house has an amazing view and location in the rainforest overlooking the ocean. Even when it rains it is amazing to be there. You will be woken up by howler monkeys sometimes which is all part of the adventurous stay! I highly recommend this gorgeous home with many amenities. All you need is some food and yourself!

“A secluded jungle paradise”

Reviewed 28 May 2013

Our stay at Casa Toucan was wonderful. The house is open and well-maintained and the setting is out of this world. It was amazing to sit and look out over our own private pool on nothing but jungle, ocean views and beautiful scenery. It was so great that we didn't even go to the beach that much (but you can since it is only 15 minutes down the mountain. I would highly recommend Casa Toucan for a romantic getaway. Bring suntan lotion, a few books and your favorite cocktails.

“Incredible”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2013

We knew this would be a great place based on the photo's and the reviews from recent renters. But anyway, we were surprised. This is such a perfect place - everything works and the quality is top notch (no Ikea here). We stayed five days over Christmas with three teenagers - the teenagers loved the place as much as we did. It takes twelve minutes to drive from the main road to the house. Pretty steep, but no problem with a 4WD. During our stay we visited Playa Hermose and Playa Ballena. We took a tour to Cano Island and Corcovado with Doplhin Tours. This is recommended - saw dolphins, whales, a crocodile, turtles, monkeys etc. Pedro was a great guide on sea and in the rainforest. Would love to go back!

“I'll be back !”

We spent three nights last July at Casa Toucan. We all enjoyed our stay and found it way too short. The house is located high in the mountain with some view to the ocean but this is not the main attraction. You really feel like living into the jungle. Each morning we were awake by howler monkeys and birds sometime located just beside the house. Having a morning coffee in this environment was for us one of the best part of our trip. Every day we saw Toucans (...) flying around. You rapidly become familiar with their sound and enjoy trying to find them around. Please have the small hike to the fall and river close by. You have great chance to see the monkeys like we did. The house doesn't have windows except for the second bedroom. We never needed air conditioning even if it was above 24 deg. at night. There is a small breeze combined with the ceiling fan that makes you sleep well. The pool was fantastic, always refreshing and made our two sons happy to go back home after our daily adventures in the region. The house was very well equipped and we had everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare our meals. The master bedroom is very nice specially for the shower which gives you the feeling of being outside. This area (Uvita, Dominical and surround), is gorgeous and not very well known by tourists. Marina Ballena park is a must if you want to go to the beach. There is some very nice restaurant. A stop to Citrus (Ojochal) is highly recommended if you want a good food experience. We highly recommend renting this villa. This is now the way we travel with our kids since it is much more adapted to our way of living than hotel and resorts. Also, Uvita has two very nice grocery store which had all the products we wanted and more. I think it is due in part with the fact that many houses around are owned by North-American people. They also had a reasonable choice of wine... For those worried with the road to get there, if you have a 4x4 there is no problemo!

“Special house, special location.”

Reviewed 29 May 2012

We just got back yesterday after our fantastic holiday. Casa Toucan was a highlight. We so enjoyed your house and the location, were very sad to have to leave. Could not think of a negative word to say about it. It was sparkling clean and welcoming when we arrived, and to walk in and see that view was amazing. Our daughter and her partner went off to surf or canyon on a couple of days and we were happy with our books sitting out on the terrace, going for an occasional dip in the pool. So relaxing! Walked down to find the swimming pool however there had been a storm and think a tree had fallen across the path so didn't get the whole way, but the walk was great. The power only went off once, on our last night during a storm, and was restored within a few hours which we thought was a miracle. Thanks also for the list of restaurants. We tried a couple of them and enjoyed, although we did cook/barbecue at the house quite a bit which we enjoyed equally. Loved Dominical and Uvita - there were barely any tourists. Don't know whether this is because of the time of the year. The other information re the house and surrounds was also helpful. Would certainly recommend Casa Toucan and the Uvita area to anyone we know visiting Costa Rica Lynn. Thank you for renting your house to us! Hopefully we will be back one day.

“Privacy and Relaxation”

Reviewed 16 Jan 2012

My wife and I just got back from two blissful weeks in Costa Rica, spent almost entirely at Casa Toucan, surrounded on all sides by lush greenery. This is the most secluded place we have ever rented. If you stand at the far end of the very nice pool, you _might_ see your closest neighbour, still quite a distance away. What you do see is jungle, everywhere jungle, with all the little pleasant surprises that accompany such a setting: toucans, monkeys (howler and capuchin), butterflies, hummingbirds, etc.. You get the picture. This is not to say that you are seeing all these animals non-stop, but you will see animals on a regular basis. And some may wake you up in the early morning hours too! The house itself is fantastic with all the amenities you would want or expect. Fridge, oven, washer, dryer, dishwasher, dishes, utensils, myriad kitchen gadgets, BBQ (though we didn't use it), tv, Dvds, cleaning agents: it's all there (with one odd exception, no corkscrew, which I'm sure will be rectified, given the attentive nature of the owners). Without a doubt the best stocked villa we have ever rented. The views from inside, from the excellent patio and from the pool level are all fantastic. The sunsets are amazing. I can truthfully say that the villa is actually better looking "live" than what you see in the pictures. All of this does however come at a price, and that's the steep drive from Uvita up the hill (and down the hill later), which can be a bit scary at first, but becomes much easier to navigate once you've done it once or twice. The owners pretty well tell you that you will need a 4x4 car, which we did. We never actually went into 4x4 mode, but we did go into low gear and were thankful for the clearance. This is the only downside, and its a small one, for staying at the villa. Bottom line is that we highly recommend Villa Toucan. I am still scratching my head as to how they ever got the internet in such a remote location!

“Just fabulous!”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2011

My family and I loved Casa Toucan! It was everything we were looking for in a vacation home. The house had everything that we needed to be comfortable. We wanted something peaceful where we could be really close to nature and the forest, and still enjoy the beach. We found it! The only noise that we heard in the morning was the congos and the birds. Late in the afternoon, while we were in the swimming pool, several toucans flew over us to go to sleep on a tree next to the house. We saw a family of armadillos that was living in the front yard. The Uvita area has so many activities. We spent mornings at the beach (several beaches to explore), afternoons in a water falls, we hiked, rode horses, and I could go on...you'll not get bored. Casa Toucan was a great experience.

“Wow, What a Place!”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2010

Casa Toucan was an amazing find for us. It is a beautiful home in an excellent location in Costa Rica. There are several really good restaurants near by in Ojochal that we really liked Exotica - French Canadian Restaurant, Citrus a lovely place by the river and there is also a nice Dutch place (sorry can't remember the name). In the other direction the Thai restaurant in Dominical is supberb. If you would like the experience the jungle in a very safe, clean beautiful home, Casa Toucan is it. We are in the hospitality industry and know when customer service is top notch and we are being well provided for. The owners of Casa Toucan were very helpful in answering all of our questions as we had not been to Costa Rica before. They are well organized and have a binder full of helpful information. The bedrooms were spacious and the home was cool enough in the hot weather. We did not need air conditioning. There was a very good selection of books, movies and music. And one bonus was when the electricity went out we could still watch a movie. We love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped with almost everything we needed with a dishwasher to boot. The pool was a god send. It can get very hot during the day, but it was so easy to jump in and cool off we barely noticed the heat. It was magical to walk out the door and see monkeys swinging in the tree, Toucan's barking in the tree just out front each night and beautiful parrots, butterflies and other colourful birds flying about. The view is a fabulous sunset view and the neighbours were stellar! Very helpful and kind. We can't recommend Casa Toucan enough. There is a fun outdoor movie theatre not too far away as well and the beaches nearby are some of the best in Costa Rica.

“Beautiful and unique!”

Reviewed 15 Feb 2010

A beautiful and unique vacation home. Clean, comfortable and well equipped. An abundance of indoor and outdoor spaces for privacy. Because of the lack of windows, (the majority of the house, including the master suite has only screens), there is a sense of really being in the surrounding jungle. Be aware that this means no AC except in the smaller bedroom...it does get a little hot in the late afternoon, but this wasn't a problem for us. The setting is perfect...we felt that we were the only people on the mountain. Best suited for no more than 5 people. Be prepared to switch bedrooms if you are sharing with another couple. The master suite is 10 times better than the other bedroom. The road up is daunting (about a 700 hundred meter rise in 2 kilometers) but we got used to it. I would not recommend for anyone who is not comfortable driving up 45 degree inclines. All and all a great house...we hope to return.
