“Very nice place to stay”
The house is big, with a great kitchen full of everything you need to cook. The owners are so friendly and kind. I definitely recommend this place.
“My daughter and I enjoyed the guesthouse and Montezuma, especial”
We only had time for two nights in Montezuma, yet this guesthouse served our needs well. Ype was a great host with lots of information on where we were traveling(we drove ourselves) and met us in Montezuma when we arrived. We had a four wheel drive which was helpful for clearance on the road to the guesthouse. The best part of the house is the wraparound glass walled veranda on the floor with the guest bedrooms. Many of the windows are open and the views and breeze were wonderful. We felt very secure as the property is gated. The trip to Montezuma takes about 10 minutes due to the road, but we got used to it quickly. The breeze was quite nice when we were there, but not sure how comfortable it would be sleeping without a/c when there is no breeze. This is a very nice place--wish we had more time to go exploring Malpais.
“Authentic and Comfortable Jungle Experience”
I had a very memorable and relaxing experience with my girlfriend at Jodokus Inn. Ype is very happy and accommodating to his guests and the house is gorgeous. Picking fresh fruit on the trees was great and the room is nicely adorned. However, I would not recommend this place for light sleepers as there are 6 dogs living here, many of whom bark at all hours of the night. Also, the howler monkies will come close to the windown and howl loudly.
It's a bit of a trek into Montezuma but the tranquility and view make up for it. The pool is cool and refreshing. We spent 3 nights at Jodokus and truly appreciated all the extra effort Ype extended to us.
“Beautiful and Relaxing”
My wife and stayed at Jodukus Inn for only 1 night on our way to other destinations. The owner, Ype, was very helpful. I was trying to figure out how to travel to Nicaragua and he gave me lots of tips and even let me use his telephone at no charge to call the bus company and make arrangements. He also taught me a couple of phrases in Spanish I needed to know. The room was very nice and the grounds are lovely. Please do be aware that you are in a private setting and that getting to Montezuma will require a ride.
“felt like home with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, lovel”
Our host was easy to get along with, friendly, & helpful with answers to our questions about places to go and things to do nearby. His yard was full of fruit trees which we were able to pick, kitchen was very nice, and there were plenty of comfortable places to sit and enjoy the beautiful view. Also trails to walk and hammocks to relax in. We enjoyed the birds, iguanas, howler monkies, and other wildlife, in addition to the gardens & adjacent jungle vegetation. Lovely place!
If you are looking for a place to get away and relax then this is the perfect place. the location was amazing and the view was even better. the owners are super nice and are very giving. there is a great sense of being at home when you are there. if you don't have a car it is no problem there is a car that will pick you up and take you where you need to go. overall was an awesome experience and would definitely go back if I have the chance.
We had a wonderful stay in Montezuma. After a long drive from arenal, getting to the beautiful guesthouse in middle of jungle at night was like paradise. The host, Ype Bolman, took exceptional care of us, balancing the needs of 12 of us who were staying at his place (no small feat), the cappuccinos, fresh juice from fruits off the trees on the vast grounds of the house, great suggestions for food, places to visit near by (crystal clear beach and the daring zip lining through the forests!!) and even taking time to take us to and from his house to the locations. Thanks Ype! You made the stay extra special. Look forward to visiting you again.
“Secluded Beautiful Residence With Great Host”
We spent 6 days here and had a great time. Ype is a most gracious, friendly and helpful host. He'll help you with advice and transport and save you if you "get lost"! He is fluent in English and has an excellent knowledge of the area. This property is a large 2 story home where the owner and staff live on the ground floor and the guests say on the second floor. It is on what appears to be 2-3 acres of hill property with a gorgeous view of the Gulf of Nicoya. The second story that houses the guests rooms also has a beautiful view deck. The grounds are gorgeous. We were able to make grapefruit juice with some freshly picked fruit from the garden. Wildlife is hit or miss. We saw several lizards and some beautiful giant parrots. Ype has several dogs who are very friendly and add to the home-like feeling of the residence. Ype lets you have your own fridge and has a huge commercial grade kitchen in case you want to prepare any food. There is also satellite TV and Wi-Fi if you feel the need to connect to the outside world. Our only complaint was the location. It is both a blessing and a curse. The property is secluded, quiet and peaceful. But to get to any outside location whether it be Montezuma Beach or just to buy supplies, one must traverse some of the worst dirt roads in Costa Rica. Ype gets around with an aTV which is the perfect vehicle for the area. We had a 4WD SUV and it was tough for us, even with that. I cannot imagine those who say that a 2WD "normal car" is fine. The car will get beat up and perhaps even stuck. We also got lost a couple of times despite having a GPS since some of these roads are not marked. So if you are looking for a secluded place to hang around, read a book, hike, use Ype's pool, etc., look no further. If you are looking for a "home base" to do lots of activities in Southern Nicoya, you'll need to consider the overhead of driving the rough roads to and from Ype's place. If you do have a vehicle, a 4WD is a must.
We stayed at Jodukus Inn in December. The property is beautiful and the view of the beach and water is sublime. We were a party of 12, 6 kids and 6 adults. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Very comfortable and spacious, kitchen is fully equipped. Ype is a wonderful host! He helped take us around, to and from the property. Since it's a bit secluded and truly in the jungle area, getting in and out is a challenge but Ype is there to guide you. All his recommendations for activities and restaurants in the area were right on the money! I wish we could have stayed longer but hopefully soon again!
