"Beautiful house in charming, quiet neighborhood!"
Left on 06/29/2017 for a stay in June 2017
Wonderful house, impeccable, beautiful! We rented the unit on the right (the house actually has 2 units) for a party of 10. It was a very comfortable stay, with great rooms, and a great kitchen. The units are located on the second/third floors of the house, so be advised you will need to go up and down two flights of stairs. The lower Garden District neighborhood is charming to walk around, and felt very safe. The Trolley stop and Walgreens, both just two blocks away were a plus. There's also a WalMart about 10 blocks south. We had one off-street parking space, which was also a plus. I would highly recommend this rental for family groups that want a quiet, relaxing place to stay while touring New Orleans.
This house was great! A short walk to the streetcar if you need to get into town and a short 15 min Uber ride into the French Quarter/Downtown area. Lot's of great places to eat in the area within walkable distance and more than enough space in the house to accommodate large groups. Rebecca was very helpful through the whole process and was kind enough to supply us with wine, snacks, and bottled water upon our arrival. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a spacious, safe, convenient place to stay on a trip to NOLA!
I want to start with what I encountered when looking for a place to stay in New Orleans. It's hard to tell what walking distances are and until you really use the trolley you won't understand them either! So to help everyone this house is closer to Frenchman street which is like the San Francisco style hipster section just off bourbon St. I went with a bunch of buddies so it was easy to figure out by day two how to walk to everywhere. From this house to Frenchman was 10 minutes then probably another 10-15 to bourbon depending on how side tracked you get while checking everything else out. The neighborhood and people all seem pretty mellow. On the weekends there are two bars at the end of the street that are busy which is great if you don't want to make a trip in to the city so to speak. The house is amazing, rooms are great, and the only real complaint we had was the coffee maker took forever to brew.... maybe an update there but if you are planning a trip around a coffee maker maybe stay home you aren't ready for the fun you will have staying at this house and enjoying the area! My group definitely wants to take another trip and I really don't doubt you will see us back at this house again enjoying New Orleans! Amazing place to rent!
My husband, friends, and I were very pleased with the house. Very cute from front to back. The decor was very nice and not too Mardi Gras themed. Pretty much everything we needed for bathing was provided. The kitchen had all the cooking and dinner necessities. The backyard patio was gorgeous and we used it several times a day. We were hesitant on the house location, but realized we were in a different living environment. House was very close to everything we wanted to explore. Easy and affordable for Uber/Lift rides.
This location is perfect for a trip to NOLA. We arrived on Friday (there were two of us) and stayed Through Sunday. The house had MORE than enough room and could have slept at least 2 more people very comfortably. Ms. Lori was very friendly and easy to work with. She had the wifi password and her phone numbers on the chalk board in the kitchen, a book with ideas for "things to do", a map of the local area, literally everything we could have needed. The house is beautiful and is in a great neighborhood. There is a very nice back patio that is kept very well - it's great for morning coffee or an evening drink. On Saturday morning we walked down to Stella's coffee house which was just a few blocks. Unfortunately it was closed; however, everyone in the neighborhood was very friendly - we actually stopped and talked to a couple of people on our way. On the plus side, there was a Starbucks just a couple of miles away which is located in a nice little area with a bakery and some places to eat.
I was a little worried about the parking situation before we got there because I have a 3/4 ton pickup and didn't know if I would have room to park it. The roads are very small and pretty rough (it's New Orleans and a very old neighborhood so I expected it to be tight), but the house has a driveway and Ms. Lori was kind enough to allow us to park there next to her car - the truck fit with no problems.
We went downtown two nights and took an Uber to and from both times. I think it was around $15, one way, for each trip but it was well worth it. We only had to wait between 5-10 minutes for the Uber to arrive. So, if you call an Uber, be ready to head out the door pretty quickly. It took about 10 minutes to get to the French Quarter from there. On that note, this property is about 10-15 minutes (driving) from everything you could want. We drove to dinner on Lake Pontchartrain one night, to downtown a couple of times during the day, and to several local joints for some crawfish and oysters - again, only took us about 15 minutes.
This house was awesome folks. I would highly recommend staying here should you ever visit New Orleans. It's perfect if you want to be out of downtown but close enough to get up and go whenever you want. This will be my number one pick when I visit NOLA again - I will stay here whenever it's available!
I often get asked what are the weirdest things I've ever eaten. And the first thing that comes to mind is the crunchy fried worms found at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium. Free samples are given away near the halfway point of the walking route through the complex. I really enjoyed the worms seasoned with garlic and sea salt. I tried to convince my 3-year-old to try a few and after a small taste he came back for more. Win! But my daughter (4 years old) was a bit smarter and not quite as adventurous. If you want to impress your friends, just take a selfie munching on worms and you're guaranteed to get a reaction.
Who doesn't love a free day out? And when you have kids, stretching every dollar is important, especially when on holidays. Our kids' favourite free activity in New Orleans is a day out in City Park. Within this colossal park is the Stanley Park playground. With slides, climbing frames and more, any child would have a ball here. Conveniently located opposite the playground is a small café selling beignets in case you get a sudden craving for something sweet. Most of the actual playground is uncovered so just be careful if it's a sunny day and bring along sunscreen when visiting in the summer to prevent an unhappy ending to a fun day out.
Looking for something quirky? Storyland located in City Park amused our kids for an hour or two. The fairy-tale themed structures appeared dated and worse for wear, but children don't really mind. They climbed up the dragon slide and whizzed down over and over again. I lost count. Our kids recognized the characters such as Mary Bo-Peep, Humpty Dumpty and 3 Little Pigs from bedtime stories and nursery rhymes. To youngsters it was like hanging out with celebrities. And at only $3 entry each, it was an affordable way to keep the kids amused and get some much-needed exercise at the same time.
