Hamilton Cove Villa 1-67

Avalon apartment

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“A wonderful weekend!” Our stay in Hamilton Cove Villa 1-67 was WONDERFUL! The check-in process was a piece of cake and the condo was beautiful. The condo is spacious and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary cooking essentials - making it easy for us to stay in and cook breakfast and dinner. The nearby pool is wonderful and the view is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise each morning. Since we had 5 people in our group, we were really excited that this condo came with a 6-person golf cart.... unfortunately we never used it but it was nice to have it as an option. Overall, we were SO happy that we stayed in Hamilton Cove - although it was a little outside of Avalon (Approx. $15 cab ride) it was relaxing and beautiful - it was everything we could have asked for.

“The House Is Well Equiped” For the most part, the house was quite comfortable. It was clean and supplied with the basic living items, i.e., toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap. My only complaint is that the house says it sleeps 8 which includes the sofa. The sofa mattress was not comfortable and needs to be replaced. If the sofa mattress is not replaced, then the house should not advertise that it can sleep 8. I would request to rent the house again for my family if the sofa mattress is replaced. As for our stay, we had a great time! I'm going to say "yes" to would I recommend this vacation rental, but I would definitely check on the sofa mattress before renting it for 8.

“Very good, but” A wonderful spacious home, with a very nice kitchen, well supplied with amenities. There are a couple of negatives. The noise from Tremont Street, golf carts, trucks, loud talking, was very distracting to sleep for our three generation group (location, location!). The carpets are so dirty that our feet and socks turned black. One toilet backed up a couple of times.

“Something for Everyone” This was a three-generation vacation and each of us had a great time. The house is cozy and well-appointed. The balcony and its furniture are welcoming and provide an outside, gathering area. Because the house is on the flat and close to "town" it allows freedom and independence. It would have been perfect if it had included the golf cart sitting by the front door as one of our seniors had a very bad knee and had trouble walking. Catalina offers plenty to do for a water-based family like ours -- we love Avalon!

“Amazing!” The condo was clean, neat, and perfect for our family! My husband and I were there with our 3 kids (8yr,6yr and 3 month newborn). The complex has a playground, basketball courts and swimming pool that the kids loved. The use of the golf cart really came in handy to get around the island! The unit has been upgraded nicely. We rented through CIVR.

“Great location, good size” This house sleeps a large group and is prime location in Avalon. No AC like most places in Avalon, so was warm for most of the day. Since we were at the beach most of the day, that wasn't an issue. Cools down at night with all doors and windows open.

Hamilton Cove Villa 1-68

Avalon apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“Even the parking space had amazing views!” Hamilton Cove Villa 1-68 can expect us to return to take in the views. The whole front wall is 3 sets of french doors, and a huge view window in the dining area. If you don't want to stare out at the spectacular ocean, then you can glance down to the little rocky cove below you. The condo is awesome: clean, fun, and nicely laid out for sleeping space. As we used it for an inexpensive quick get away we were happy w/the ability to sleep four in a one bedroom unit, and our daughters still each had their own space. There is the twin daybed (which is a trundle if you need it) tucked away in an alcove. And there's also a futon/sofa. The kitchen had everything needed, and more. Downsides: You must carry your suitcases down & back up several flights of stairs, somebody "borrowed ALL the hangers) and left cigarette butts in a potted patio plant. Serious drawback: the Internet and cell phone service was nearly non existent for us At&T users. My husband occasionally got a weak signal, but not I. Our college age daughters were horrified and ended up spending much more time in the charming town of Avalon so as to be connected to the world. I was ok with it, we went there to relax and snorkel, after all. But even the girls were impressed with the condo and the views. It was wonderful to have that cart, couldn't really have stayed there without it. But it also made the villas superior to the hotels. The villas are more attractive, quiet, and as they're gated, more secure than in town. The ride to and from was always enlivened by seeing the shyer Avalon residents, a herd of deer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling in that lovely private cove. Yes, waters are a little chilly. The trick is to go in waist deep, get out for a few minutes. When you get back in, the part of you that got wet is now just fine with the temp. Works every time. And the snorkeling is lovely. Other than Garibaldi, California's state fish the fish are not as brightly colored as Hawaii's, but the flora and fauna are much more so, and create a magnificent experience. The sheer numbers of fish delighted us. This little cove is a nursery to schools and schools of various fish. Even spotted eagle rays, bat rays, sting rays, a shy leopard shark (harmless w/just sandpapery nubs of teeth to eat small clams). Watched a senorita fish and a small calico bass harass an octopus. Snorkeling brought us to Catalina's Hamilton Cove Villas, and will bring us back.

227 Beacon B

Avalon apartment

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“Absolute Stunner!” In a sleepy village where most of the residences are holding tightly to 1970s decor, 227 Beacon B is a fish out of water. Fantastically updated throughout and looks like a modern day 5 star hotel suite- I hope you like granite and hardwoods! The external balcony and walkways are a little weathered, but the interior is immaculate. The street and driveway are a bit steep up a hill which allows for the expansive views, so you may want to use a cab if you're bringing heavy luggage. Also has a mirror image unit 227 Beacon A and we will likely pursue renting both in the future for a family gathering! Thanks, Brian, Kayte, Kevin and Briana

225 Claressa

Avalon house

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 8

“Adorable house in Catalina” We went to Catalina for Memorial Day weekend this year and we had 8 adults in 225 Claressa. The house is so much bigger and cuter than the pictures online make it seem. The living area is really large and comfy, and all 8 of us were able to sit in there and talk or watch TV. Also, the kitchen table was big enough for us to all sit around and have family-style dinners and the kitchen was functional (small and not enough pans, but functional). The down sides that we experienced were: the rental office had moved and did not inform us so we had to go on a scavenger hunt to find them, the house has 1 room with a full bed, 2 rooms with bunk beds, and a queen size air mattress. It may not have been the best choice for 3 couples and 2 friends. My husband and I slept in one of the bunk bed rooms and the bunk beds were ok- if a little hard- but super squeaky! The couple in the next room heard us every time we turned over! The bunk bed rooms are also super tiny- so prepare yourself for that and you will be ok. All in all it was a great rental. So close to all of the activity, 5 minute walk (at most) to the grocery store, restaurants and bars. I would stay in this house again, but maybe I would take the big room this time...

“Great little place to stay” This is a cute little house, perfect size for a small family for a few days. It's clean and well maintained with modern appliances. Air conditioning would have been nice because it was pretty muggy the weekend we were there, but the ceiling fans helped a lot. The location is good, just a few minutes walk from the beach with no hills. We would happily stay here again the next time we return to Catalina.

“Great home for a beach vacation” I loved this place. I went with my husband, son and two of our son's friends. The street is perfect for kids, as golf carts are blocked from using it. It felt like their was a block party each night with barbeques and kids playing on the street. Yes, it's old, but it's painted and furnished cheerfully and comfortably. I like old places, and this one just feels like the perfect old beach cottage. Our only complaint would be that there were only five chairs for the dining table (six are allowed to say there), and the futon in the living room was really difficult to reassemble. If you're looking for an authentic beach cottage, though, this one will please you.

“Fun on Catalina Island” Our family enjoyed this Hamilton Cove condo. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and having the golf cart was a nice way to get into Avalon. The condo was clean and well maintained with a good supply of towels. The location is quiet with a great view of the Pacific. It might be good to have a checklist of kitchen supplies to be sure they are adequate. Our kitchen had only a couple of teaspoons.

Hamilton Cove Villa 1-57

Avalon apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 4

“borderline magic” This unit is more or less dead center of the complex, and is directly above the pool and clubhouse, with a view right down onto the beach. It's at the mid point so you pretty well have to go up the maximum amount of steps (not something that concerns me). As with most, if not all, units, this one comes with a golf cart and that's a must because walking from town to Hamilton Cove, while it is totally doable, would be a good half hour hike up a serious hill and if you're packing groceries, forget it, you'd need a cab which costs $15 all in from town. The unit was very nice (truly), with very large (50 inch) brand new flat screen LED smart TVs in both living room and master bed. It's nice to flip on cable and put it on a sat music station. It does get regular cable TV programs but the best entertainment is outside on the large balcony (easily could have 10 people on the balcony, it's 25 ft long and 6 ft wide). Furniture was chosen with good taste and is very comfortable (rly nice and comfortable fold out couch but we didn't use it for a bed). The artwork and decor makes u feel like you're in a well designed home The master bed mattress seemed like an old spring mattess in desperate need of replacement and i have a bad back, and so forth so i was fairly concerned but for whatever reason, it didn't bother me and i had no trouble sleeping. There's no AC and it was mid summer here at the island and in the 80s through the early evening but we had no need of AC (and I definitely an AC kinda guy). The ocean breeze with the doors open at night was heaven and because it is located directly above the beach (albeit, 300 ft away), you can hear the gentle waves come in all night. To be honest I don't think you can really do better than Hamilton Cove Villa, if you're looking at a higher end stay. In terms of price, it's right in there with the high end places and if you've got kids (I did not have kids this stay) it's a no brainer for a larger space, kitchen etc. This particular villa, the second i have stayed at, has got to be one of the best deals in the whole complex. I am sure it's lower price reflects how difficult it is to get to it. You need to ascend about 75 ft of steps. I knew this going in, or, surmised it, and it's no issue for me but if you're older or have bad knees or something, be aware of this because there is no way around it. There are no elevators here. The golf cart seemed to have an issue with exhaust, even with all the flaps open.

“Catalina Island Rental” We enjoyed our stay as always at Catalina Island. I have also stayed at these condos several times with no issues. I have children so I like to stay here because of the pool for the kids. However, while many others seemed to not following the rules, I feel they were more strict with us as visitors when compared to being more lenient with residents. We were told to follow the rules in the pool such as no balls, no splashing, for the kids to lower their voices. While feeling I had to leave the pool due to my children not being able to swim according to their rules, at times I observed others not following rules and they were never told anything. I was trying to respect the rules while it seems others were not but we were told something every time we were swimming. I have six kids so they will splash a little even swimming from side to side but we were told they couldn't. The condo was clean and had great space for my family and I. I would still recommend this place overall and I will stay there again. I was just dossapointed.

“Perfect family vacation home!” We absolutely loved this house! It slept our family of 5 very comfortably and had everything we needed except a garlic press, cheese grater and wine glasses :) It was close enough to walk to everything but just far enough away to not hear constant golf carts. Having the Vons Express close by was great! We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cute and comfortable home on the island. Just a few recommendations: a collapsible wagon to carry stuff to beach or dinghy dock and the back bathroom sink needs a new faucet. The shower pressure, valve and hot water was excellent! Kitchen was well outfitted except for the above mentioned. All in all, a great home!

“Gorgeous!” Three families stayed at 316 1/2 upper level Catalina avenue with four teenagers. The home is old but very nicely appointed with everything one could need. There is a washer dryer and a clothes line and 3 blow dryers, a beach cooler, and two red wagons for carting groceries or beach gear, and two small, beach chairs to use. There is a small BBQ on the main floor that both units can use in the street for fire safety. All the appliances are new. The kitchen is equipped with nice dishes, glasses, bowls, and cooking pots and pans. They could use a few more cutting knives when cooking or sharpen the ones there. There is lots of extra bedding although we could have used more pillows in each room. The flat screen TV has lots of great channels. The home is located in the middle of town near everything. It is very bright and sunny. All the windows open up - no screens if you have small children. Cool evenings mean no air conditioning is needed. They did have two nice fans that we used during the day to keep cool. The table fits 10 and we ate big brunches there everyday after our morning walk and before heading to the beach. We would love to rent here again. Compared to other prices for weekly rentals on Catalina this one was the best for the money. The internet did not work and the rental agency repair man is so nice and fixed it quickly. The washing machine door did not shut properly and the repair came back and fixed that quickly. He deserved an extra tip for his prompt response and nice attitude. And he fixed both items the first time he came.

Catalina Island, California

The resort destination of Avalon lies on Santa Catalina Island, one of the California Channel Islands. Once home to Marilyn Monroe, this beautiful island has been a tourist hotspot since the 1920s, and it’s easy to see why.

About Catalina Island

Avalon on Catalina Island was developed into a resort destination by William Wrigley Jr. in 1919, when the Catalina Casino and Avalon Theatre were constructed. By day, it attracts vacationing Angelinos, but stay overnight or for a longer break, and you’ll see a charming, romantic side to this small town.

You can’t rent a car on Catalina Island, which means the only options for getting around are on foot or by bike or golf cart. This adds a certain charm and a more relaxed pace to island life, and a trip here is perfect if you’re looking to get away from it all.

Its coastal location means Avalon is renowned for its fresh fish and seafood, best enjoyed at restaurants near the harbor. You’ll find a wide variety of food served at local restaurants, everything from fast food to pizza and Mediterranean cuisine, making Avalon a popular destination for families.

What to do in Catalina Island, California

Stroll along the pretty waterfront with its galleries, shops and ice cream parlors, then take a glass bottom boat tour or a dolphin watching trip from the Pleasure Pier in the center of the bay. Here you’ll also find vendors renting kayaks—this is a great way to see the island from the water.

Adventurous types might want to head for the Zip Line Eco Tour with its zip lines taking you 500 ft. above sea level, while those looking for something more relaxing can lounge on the sand at Descanso Beach Club.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take a guided tour of Catalina Casino and Avalon Theater. Once host to famous big-band musicians, today this Art Deco building is the focal point for island entertainment. Its movie theater hosts regular screenings and its 20,000-square foot ballroom is home to exciting events throughout the year. Check out the programme before you go to see what’s on!
