Treasure of a flat in an amazing city

Left on 05/20/2013 for a stay in August 2012

I stayed at Pera!place with my partner for a romantic break away in Istanbul at the end of last summer. The location is ideally situated and very convenient for exploring the city with many great bars and restaurants on the doorstep. The flat is located in the midst of the local nightlife which we greatly enjoyed taking part in! As there are clubs nearby there is the noise of them at night, however in the bedroom towards the rear of the flat it is quieter and it did not bother us at all. We found it exciting to be staying in a lively area which was authentic and great fun. The flat was clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and renovated with a sensitivity to the 19th century building, yet with a modern twist. The ceilings left us speechless - we had to lie on the floor and look at them each day! This is a perfect place for a romantic escape or a base to dive into the city. Unfortuntely we could only stay 3 nights, however we will be back! Thank you so much Julia and Tarkan for a beautiful stay.

Gave the depth and flavour to our trip to Istanbul!

Left on 01/08/2013 for a stay in January 2013

This is a truly magical spot and gave unexpected extra dimensions to our holiday in Istanbul. Spent Christmas and into new year 2013 at Pera!Place after a very last minute decision to go on holiday with my fiancée. Feel like I really landed on my feet choosing this place.
Booking was a breeze, Julia and Tarkan were quick to respond to all emails and very helpful at every step. Transfers were smooth and after experiencing the usual taxi service during stay definitely appreciated it! Welcomed at apartment by delightful Monika who orientated us and made us feel at home, she was on hand whenever needed. Whole service was professional.
Apartment itself is lovely. Cozy with high ceilings throughout and beautiful restoration. Rapidly felt like home - all creature comforts. Relaxing indoors loved looking out at the throng of people milling between the bars. Turkish buffet / takeaway opposite with all sorts of super fresh tasty foods for feasting at home with - became our staple and really helped with the holiday budget (found out later it's number 1 on trip advisor for eating in Beyoglu - always full of locals, not fine dining though!). Bakery next door gave smell of fresh bread in morning and 1TL for a warm from oven loaf. Mini market shop next door for other supplies. Numerous clubs and bars along the street and most with live music. Superb to be able to just pop out to hear a band playing, go for a dance, grab a bite to eat and be home within seconds. Definitely not a place for a meditation retreat but that being said we always slept well. Just loved the vitality of the area and the visceral feel it gave to our experience.
Beyond that have excellent streets to explore within a few more minutes walk with more great eats, sites and sounds. Old part of city for the touristy site seeing is about 30min interesting walk, or metro a few mins away.
Would highly recommend if you like fun & funky rather than sedate & sterile and will definitely be returning when able!

      Awful

Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012

I booked this apartment for the New Years Eve 2011/2012 after having read the good reports on Trip advisor.
Since from the payment (the paypal system didn't work at all) I found troubles and when I arrived to the apartment I saw that the palace has nothing to do with the word "luxury".
The apartment was nothing special but, most of all, it was located in a very noisy street that prevented me from sleeping well.
Moreover I found out that some ants came down from the celeing (or somewhere else). Finally, after two days on December 31st, the electrical system went off and the owner told me that there was no guarantee that it was recovered.
So the owner proposed me to move to another apartment that, actually, was even worse than the initial one.
I decided to go to a real luxury hotel in Taksim Square for the final part of my vacation.
The only positive thing is that the owner gave me back the money for the nights not spent.
In the end the price for night is not absolutely justified, don't go there!!!

Response from Julia and Tarkan - 01/16/2013

      Julia and Tarkan

      Owner

We're really sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience, even after we'd all tried our best to help you with your issues.

It's possible that you're just not suited to an apartment stay, which is in many ways different from a hotel experience. Your expectations seem to have been far removed from the information available to you about this apartment and so it makes sense for us to hear that you were, in the end, a better fit for a large 'luxury hotel' in Taksim Square.

A stay at pera!place apartment is undoubtedly a unique experience and although there are some things that the apartment is 'not', there are many more very special things that it certainly 'is'! We try really hard to make this clear online: we're very open about the noisy location and we don't call it 'luxury', though many guests are completely amazed by the original 19th century architectural opulence (gilded ceiling and marble fireplace), carefully retained without over-restoration and how we have balanced this with a very contemporary new kitchenette, chic bathroom plus high quality, stylish furnishing.

It was unfortunate that you experienced a power cut during your stay, but these do happen occasionally. This is part of normal life for residents in the area and is something that we are unable to prevent. Such cuts don't usually last long. We provide atmospheric battery nightlights, torches and as much information and support as we can, should the event arise.

We have to be clear that your payment issue was a result of its being blocked en-route to us by PayPal as a 'suspicious' for some reason. This happens very rarely: we accept credit card and PayPal transactions all the time without any problems.

We did offer you an alternative apartment (quiet location and more expensive than pera!place) at the time, which still didn't satisfy you, and then we refunded you for all the nights you didn't stay (peak period for us). We weren't obliged by our contract with you or by normal apartment rental protocol to do any of this.

It saddens us to hear that you still hold feelings of resentment one year later.

Fabulous apartment in a fabulous city

Left on 10/09/2012 for a stay in October 2012

We loved our 5 night stay at Pera! Place. The apartment is beautiful and well equipped. Do not be put off by it being in a noisy neighbourhood - the bedroom is fully soundproofed and we didn't have a problem sleeping when we wanted an early night. It is a nice walk to the area with the Grand Bazaar area, and there are plenty of bar and restaurants in the streets surrounding. We loved Istanbul and will definitely be coming back (soon) and would not hesitate to recommend Pera!place to friends.

      Nowhere better!

Left on 05/23/2012 for a stay in April 2012

I stayed in this gorgeous apartment in april for a week. I am high end furniture designer from New York so I can be very picky. Aesthetically the apartment was amazing. Truly one of a kind. It was a great size for me. It came equipped with everything I needed. It was private yet very safe. The company was very lovely and accommodating. I could not have asked for anything more.

I am also a young man and the apartment is situated right in the heart of the nightlife which was very convenient. Though it does get a bit noisy late into the night they have done a fantastic job sound proofing the bedroom. Never had a hard time resting and relaxing; yet also never had a dull moment.

Many great restaurants and shopping within walking distance.

Perfect Perfect Perfect... We loved it!

Left on 08/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Istanbul is a great city to visit, and Pera Place is a great place for those who want to be in the cool/hip neighborhood of Beyo?lu.

We received a warm welcome along with a binder of information about the apartment/neighborhood. And the bookshelf was stocked with books about Beyo?lu & Istanbul. Very helpful!

The apartment is gorgeous. Giant windows allow the energy from the street to billow up into the flat... And the gorgeous walls, high/ornate ceilings=amazing! The place felt very cool/special. The restoration of the flat is lovely and the mix of modern/clean furnishings with the old-world building was delightful.

Beyo?lu is a very bustling neighborhood, and this is literally in the middle of it all, steps from Istiklal Caddesi & Nevizade Sokak. Probably too busy/loud for some, but if you're looking to be in a very cool area and find it fun to have to shout to hear your companion while sitting in the living room, it's for you too. We found this detail fun (& funny) and it was mostly only at night. One would think this would affect your sleep since the noise goes on until at least 4 am, but no! There are special windows in the bedroom and they really kept the noise out perfectly.

We found the location especially enjoyable one night when it was so hot that after a visit to a couple of nearby clubs, we were drenched in sweat, so we just walked home (about 20 feet), and changed into new clothes. Then we walked over to Peyote Bar, which was a really great place about 2 min away.

Everything from the bed to the modern bathroom was comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed & includes a washer/dryer. I really liked that the owners left a stack of Turkish music cds out for us. We really enjoyed playing them on while we were there it made the atmosphere even better, especially when we opened the windows and watched the excitement on the street below.

We highly recommend staying here if you like this kind of atmosphere... We did!

A very clean and modern, stylish bathroom.

There are noisy neighbours with a lot of entertainment, I like that.

In the sleeping room the noise is hardly there..

      Historic jewel in modern Istanbul

Left on 05/22/2011 for a stay in May 2011

My boyfriend and I had four nights here whilst exploring Istanbul for the first time...and it did not disappoint. Right in the thick of the major shopping & nightlife district of Taksim, we had everything at our disposal in short walking distances. The apartment itself was of a very high standard, with all necessary amenities including even an i-pod dock and good wi-fi. I also loved the fact that the very hip antique shopping area of Cukurcuma was literally a five minute wander across the other side of Istaklal - my one recommendation is to bring a big bag with you to take home any vintage goodies you spy!! Even if shopping isn't on your 'to-do' list, the area has loads of fantastic eateries - a few with million-dollar views of the Bosphorus. Very easy to walk down to Galata and across the bridge into Sultannahmet - about 15 minutes. We did this walk every day. Finally, you won't struggle to find great food close by...one of our favourite meals was literally on the doorstep - a common street food fare of chicken, pilaf, and chickpeas. So delicious. My only slight 'warning' to potential visitors is that there is quite a bit of base-thumping street noise to contend with in the evenings, however the 'white noise' machine provided does do a lot to diminish it...I can only say that we had pretty fitful sleeps during our stay and that the rest of the benefits of this fantastic apartment totally outshadow the noise factor.

Left on 05/11/2011 for a stay in April 2011

Beautiful apartment elegantly restored. Clean modern kitchen and bathroom alongside a stunning living place. Not the quietest of locations so perhaps not best for light sleepers but in the heart of Istanbul's Soho, off the main shopping street and a couple of streets away from the French quarter with its quirky cafes and streets of antique stores so a great location (we preferred it over the very touristy Sultanahmet side).

We spent 5 nights in pera!place and enjoyed every minute of it. The apartment is in a great location as many restaurants and bars are just outside. There is a great place just opposite to buy some delicious and cheap food. The apartment itself has all the facilities you need, it may get a little noisy at night but we just bought some ear plugs and we slept fine. There is also a supermarket up the street to buy basic stuff to make coffee or tea and breakfast. The surrounding area is very affluent and very pleasant with some real Istanbul institutions real close. The main high street is metres away and there are loads of things to see and do, including Galata tower.

Left on 10/20/2010 for a stay in September 2010

Pera Place is a wonderful building of historical significance. Spacious and the restored ceiling is extraordinary. Furnished to a high standard with excellent wireless internet.
The location is excellent being close to Istikial Caddesi and short walking distance to Galata Tower, Galata Bridge, the Modern and Pera Museums. Small supermarkets and a fish market are nearby, although restaurant food is so inexpensive. Handy though for milk, water and fresh fruit and there's a bakery next door. It's possible to catch delivery guys carrying early morning bread and buns in the street. Cheap and very good bistro meals directly across the street. Extremely busy street at night with many pubs and a nearby nightclub that rage on to early morning. One has to be prepared to accept the vibe!!

      Beautiful, well-located, friendly family-owned appartment

Left on 09/23/2010 for a stay in September 2010

We found it hard to decide whether to stay in a hotel or appartment for our Istanbul trip, but are so glad we went for the appartment option, and especially glad we chose this one. The owners were always prompt answering questions, friendly and helpful, and provided us with a very warm welcome. We always felt we were just one phone call away, if anything were to happen.

The appartment itself is on the corner of two of the best restaurant and bar streets in Istanbul - very lively and full of life. We really felt like we were in the centre of the city, with a very buzzing environment. The noise from the bars, clubs and restaurants is very loud, but the sound-proofing for the appartment was excellent, and we didn't have the slightest problem sleeping.

The decoration is very sympathetic to the history and style of the appartment - wonderful high ceilings with the original plasterwork and paintings restored beautifully. Modern furniture works really well, and meant we never felt like we were in a museum, watching where we stepped, or what we touched.

I would absolutely recommend this appartment to anyone wanting to visit Istanbul and feel in the centre of the city, just one step away from everything!

Lovely location in an amazing neighbourhood!

Left on 04/18/2010 for a stay in April 2010

      Our Istanbul experience was amazing!

"On every corner we found surprises".

Guido drank raki with Ahmet, We sang with the locals, we danced with the trabzonspor supporters on the street, we had diner and lunch at the nicest places of the neighbourhood and all the things we missed, we'll come back for.

      We loved the apartment.
The owners did a great job renovating the place. The ceiling is beautifull and all the details of old wooden windows and doors make the place special.
It is combinated with modern comfort as a doc-station for the I-pod and DVD-player. Internet works perfect.
From the evening till late in the night Ahmet, a very nice old man, watches over the entrance of the building.

The location is in the best area of Istanbul, just arround the corner of Nevizade, the most lively street that came across me. Eat mezzes at Imroz and you never want to eat them somewhere else.
Just across the street is the takeaway, witch is verry good and it seems that it is open whole day and night.
Ibiza, the club at the other site of Balo sokak was a little noisy, but the isolatin of the doors was perfect, so we slept well.

Comunication in advance and afterwords with the owners was verry good, they are verry nice and the the service at in and outcheck done by their family is also good.

In other words, this accommodation in this neighbourhood is highly recomanded by us.

Beautiful apartment, helpful owners, lively neighborhood

Left on 03/04/2010 for a stay in January 2010

Istanbul!Place is a chic remodeled apartment in an old building. It's amazing how every high-tech comfort has been tucked under its ornate and old-fashioned ceilings: DVD player, Internet, a single-unit washer-dryer. The heat works very well (we were there in winter, and it snowed).

The apartment is just a couple of blocks off Istiklal, and perfect for anyone who wants to be near the clubs and restaurants and youthful buzz of Istanbul. Since there are nightclubs on the block, I was apprehensive about the noise level, but it turned out fine. The apartment has effective noise mitigation devices, from low-tech (heavy wooden shutters) to high-tech (a white noise generator in the bedroom). We slept peacefully, though to use the front rooms during peak club hours (10pm to 3 am) you need to be in the spirit of the place. Don't stay here if you're dreaming of a quiet, peaceful retreat, but this is the place to be if you want to hear Turkish music at nearby Seraye, then wander home on foot browsing for stylish hats at 2 a.m. If you get home hungry and haven't stocked the fridge, pick up take-out at the locantasi across the street, which is delicious and cheap, and feeds the people till after 4 a.m.

The owners and their family couldn't be more helpful or easy to communicate with. After getting into a sign language jam with a merchant in the bazaar, we called for translation help and were graciously bailed out.
