Very comfortable apartment in good location with fabulous views!

Left on 06/15/2013 for a stay in June 2013

We stayed in the Petraki Place apartment for five nights. It was perfect for our family of four. Had a very nice kitchen with full size refrigerator and dishwasher and washer and dryer. I like to rent apartments when travelling and I always look for one with 'character' as opposed to just a plain generic apartment. This apartment has high ceilings and exposed brick walls and beautiful doors. We loved it. And one of the best things about this apartment is the terrace on top of the building. The views are breathtaking and we felt no need to go up to the top of the Galata Tower since we had the same view without the crowds. Every time we went up we were the only ones there.
There are grocery stores and restaurants nearby. It was about a ten minute walk to the Galata Bridge and so not hard at all to cross over to get to the Old Towne.
We had Julia and Tarkan arrange transportation to pick us up and take us to the apartment, which I would recommend since it is hard to find the first time. Also, they sent a large vehicle, which we needed with four of us and lots of luggage. They also arranged our transportation to the airport for our flight home. I have to say I was a little worried with a 3:00am pickup, but the driver was right on time.
The only caution I have about this apartment is you should be aware that if you will be walking to the Old Towne from this apartment, it is a walk of about 20-30 minutes depending on how fast you walk. And coming back it is uphill once you leave the Galata Bridge. It wasn't a problem for us but it could be for someone else and you should be aware of that. And the terrace is 4-5 floors up with no elevator so keep that in mind also.
We were very happy with our decision to stay here. It's a lovely apartment in a good location with good service from the owners and we would recommend it to others.

The apartment is on this quiet street. The view from the terrace.

Thank you so much for your lovely words about petraki apartment and about your experience with us.

We've just a small note for accessing Sultanahmet area. If you walk, it takes around 20-25 minutes but if you take the tram (which is 5 minute walk away from the apartment) then it takes a 7 minute ride. It's worth to mention that the walk or tram ride is via the most interesting parts of Istanbul and over the Golden Horn.

Another note for your words 'coming back from Sultanahmet it is uphill once you leave the Galata Bridge'. It's possible to use world's second oldest underground system that runs every 5 minutes between Karakoy and Tunel. If you do this, then you can walk downhill from Tunel to your apartment instead of walking uphill.

Warmest regards and we really hope to host you again,
      Tarkan and Julia

      The best introduction to Istanbul

Left on 05/29/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Our family of four stayed in stylish Petraki!Place at the beginning of May. It was the perfect place to be based for exploring the city. Galata Tower, almost in touching distance from the apartment became our landmark. The two bedroomed-ensuite bathroom apartment was fashionable, comfortable and spacious with dining and sitting rooms. Beds and pillows extra comfy! The kitchen was ample and fitted with every convenience needed. We enjoyed self catering and on two sunny mornings had a delicious picnic breakfast on the rooftop with the glorious view of Istanbul. From our first online query we felt supported by Julia & Tarkan and welcomed by their team on the ground. Tour books, options for guided walks, and transport card were most helpful. We will most certainly return.

Lovely stay near Galata Tower - Petraki Place

Left on 05/28/2013 for a stay in May 2013

Our family of five enjoyed our 4-night stay at the Petraki Place. The apartment is spacious and provided us with the room we were looking for during our holiday. While it is posted as being on the first floor, it is up a level so not on the street level which was a relief. The apartment lived up to its listing and we were very comfortable. As noted by previous reviewers. The neighbourhood is great as a base for seeing Istanbul. A short walk downhill to the tram, ferry or walk over the Galata Bridge to Sultanahmet (steep hill for the climb back but that's Istanbul for you). The view from the shared terrace is beautiful but it is a climb to the top. Worth it though! We didn't find it to be too loud but we did close the windows at night with the fans running to keep us cool. I didn't see any a/C so heat might be an issue in the summer. Lots and lots of great restaurants, shops in the area including wine, beer and food for meals. We did the orientation tour which helped us see many parts of Beloglu that we wouldn't have seen on our own - recommend doing if you have a number of days in Istanbul. Very good company to work with.

      Dear Lynn,

Thank you so much for your great review for petraki!place apartment.

We'd like like to underline that we put proper mobile air-conditioners into the apartment from the beginning of June until the end of September.

So, even if you come and stay in the mid-summer you'd have a comfortable stay!

      Perfect service

Left on 05/07/2013 for a stay in April 2013

My son and I arrived on a Sunday and were greeted by Monika who informed us that the boiler in the the petraki!place apartment had failed the previous day and that they were waiting for business hours on Monday to engage a repair person. The car from the airport had delivered us to another apartment nearby petrak!place - this is where we met Monika - and she explained that we could stay there instead. It was a nice apartment but too small for four (we needed three separate and private sleeping rooms by Tuesday when the rest of the family arrived). I explained our predicament, she contacted Tarkan, and he approved buying a new boiler Monday morning and having it installed immediately in spite of the fact that the current one was (he reported) under warranty and a repair person could likely have it fixed in a day or two. My point is that Tarkan chose to manage it in a way that would least inconvenience us. It was fixed Monday and all was fine. Everyone we met through this company was strikingly attentive and helpful. They outdid themselves in every way taking care of us. In the interest of representing his regret for our inconvenience Tarkan arranged a half-free food tour (we paid for the food and a wonderful young woman - Aynsla [sp?] - guided us to the coolest places for four hours one afternoon). The apartment was terrific in every way, from location, to great beds, water pressure, the rooftop terrace, cleanliness, aesthetics - everything. We loved it. it was one of the best visits we have had to a European city. The neighborhood is full of boutiques, cafes, and galleries, the nightlife was very lively. It was great. We travel as a family (me, my wife, two young adult children) a good bit and everyone agreed it was one of our best trips. Upon returning to the States we needed some paperwork and Tarkan quickly took care of that. Really, great service overall, and it really made a difference.

      More Pro's than Con's...

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in April 2013

We stayed here with our two-year-old son and friend for a week in april. Here's the deal...

      Pro's:
-Great neighborhood, full of cool shops, great food, and fun cafes/bars. Perfect atmosphere!
-Kind and efficient booking process/staff. Everything went smoothly inc. airport transfer.
-Cool apartment as advertised, neat period features and all mod cons. Spacious.
-Pricey, but worth it, especially if you have kids or are traveling with a few people

      Con's
-Street noise was a little extreme, especially on the weekend nights. Tough for our little guy. Call to prayer is pretty darn loud too, even by Muslim standards.
-A few minor upgrades needed, leaky shower head and dripping boiler bucket. Minor, but needed.
-The flat is great, but the building entry is pretty shabby. Fine line between atmospheric and slummy. Not a big deal for us, but just an FYI.
-Galata is a great place to stay, but it is a bit of an effort to get around. Not a biggie for us, taxis are ever present and the metro is about a 10 minute walk (although it does not connect to the old town area) but just an FYI.

All and all it's a great place to stay. Most of the con's are out of the owners/managers control. Istanbul is great, go for it!

      Pure luxury

Left on 01/30/2013 for a stay in June 2011

Should have written this sooner, I know. We wanted to visit while our eldest son was still available after his semester in Istanbul so he could be our guide. We also brought along our teenage son for some family bonding. The apartment was perfect for the four of us. The master was gorgeous with a very small bedroom adjoining which could be perfect for a small child. (We used it as a dressing room since it had some very handy shelving). The bathrooms were lovely and spotlessly clean as was the enire apartment. The elder son camped out on the couch and the other took the other bedroom with a double bed. Having two bathrooms was really important for family harmony. The kitchen was also excellent and we did a lot of great cooking. The rooftop was outstanding and really made the place memorable. We shared hours of toasting, snacking and gorgeous views of the adjacent Galata Tower and the Bosporous. (The climb up the stairs would be very difficult if not impossible for the elderly, very young or handicapped). There was no furniture up there so we had our healthy sons carry up chairs. I think that there was a small table. The photos provided really didn't do justice to the beautifully appointed apartment. Loved it!

Our experience was even more wonderful than we thought it would

Left on 11/28/2012 for a stay in October 2012

My husband and adult son & his wife stayed in Petraki Place in early October this year. The apartment is excellent in every way: the renovation is well done, everything is as advertised and the location is very convenient to travel anywhere in the city. The most memorable thing is the ownership and management of the apartment, Tarkan & Julia as owners and Monika and Necla as associates on site who keep things running smoothly and lend an air as gracious and helpful as any you could want or need. The whole operation is exceedingly professional and warm and friendly. Both bedrooms are comfortable, beautifully appointed and the bathrooms are spacious, newly renovated
and very comfortable to use. The kitchen is superb. There is a rooftop patio with a million dollar view and some marginal furniture.
The apartment is close to a grocery, wonderful restaurants, etc. although it might be hard for someone to find without assistance.
There are maps/guidebooks for guests to use inside the apartment,
consistent wi-fi, maid service available if desired(we did and it was excellent) and I highly recommend the neighborhood tour Tarkan can arrange to get oriented before setting out on your own. All our airport transfers were handled precisely & accurately. This is a real
find as far as I am concerned. A delightfully memorable addition to our stay in Turkey.

The location and proximity of this apartment to the Galata tower, Taksim shopping street and all the cafe's is unsurpassed. We had a party of five and everyone was very comfortable at this beautifully furnished apartment. The building is old and antique looking from outside but once you step inside it is very nice.

It is literally only a few steps away from Galata tower. Tarkan was wonderful to deal with and Monika made sure all of our needs were met. There were a couple of things that were missing from the apartment but they almost immediately replaced.

      Great location & apartment

Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012

My friends and I recently stayed at Petraki place after moving over from Sahkulu. We moved to Petraki for two reasons - October is very busy and the first apartment wasn't available the entire duration and our group size got smaller and did not require as much room. Monika coordinated it so that our luggage was moved (very nice!!) while we were out sight seeing.

Petraki is in a great location, but know in advance it does not have an elevator and is on the 2nd or 3rd floor. That said the apartment is very spacious with 2 bedrooms (one double, one with 2 twin beds). There is also a single cot in the living room. The bathroom is not as large as one would like, but it worked.

Again, very clean and nicely decorated. Complete with full kitchen and washer/dryer.

Definitely would recommend for a family or friends.

What a great place to stay!. The apartment is modern and very clean. Extremely convenient for all aspects of touring in Istanbull. Just down the hill to a tram to all the sites and just up the hill to the shopping and eating heaven. monica who is managing the place is fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble.( she even carries the bags downstairs for you if you are not quick enough). I would reccomend this palce to anyone who wants a hassle free stay in istanbull and does not want the expense of a hotel. We highly reccommend the intro tour with Duygu, we have no turkish, only english and we felt after the tour that we could tackle the local transport system.( with 2 small children). The view from the top of the building is amazing. Make sure you take the time to have a dinner and a breakfast from here. It is worth the cost of the accommadation.

The decoration of the apartment was modern and really clean. There are fans supplied but no air conditioning.

The apartment is in a good location however it is on a hill so if you have problems walking up and down hills this probably isn't the best option for you however you could get taxis.

Old style charm with modern comfort and spacious rooms

Left on 06/06/2012 for a stay in May 2012

      1. Location in Beyoglu could not be better: steps away from Galata tower, replete with souvenir and artisan shops, groceries, pharmacy, ATM, restaurants, juice stands. An easy walk uphill leads to Tunel (at the end of Istiklal pedestrian zone), downhill to Karakoy with easy access to Eminonu and Sultanahmet (old town), or to Kabatas (where one can take ferry to asia, visit Dolmabahce palace, or take furnicular to Taksim square).
      2. Apartment is tastefully remodeled with excellent decor and high quality material. Amenities include internet, phone, well-equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, iron/board, TV/audio system, music and travel library. Lots of TV channels for my dad. Plenty of natural light and cross ventilation. High ceiling and exposed brick and ducts. Two bedrooms with separate bathrooms are very comfortable for a family of 4-5 or 2 couples. The "master" has an en-suite bath and an antechamber with a single bed which is a pleasant find. The rooftop boasts a beautiful view of the Golden Horn and Bosporus.
      3. Owners Tarkan and Julia are very helpful, and we are so lucky to meet Tarkan in person. Monika answers our email expediently, and is always eager to make things happen for us.
      4. We enjoy our brief stay and despite the loud noises from the alley and the square (due to festivities almost nightly while we were there), we sleep well. It tends to be very quiet after midnight, anyway, and we like the proximity to the acitivites on the square. Tarkan shows us how to use the heater, and each room has its own regulator.
      5. I can't think of a single downside to this wonderful unit, and compared to another rental in Cihangir, Petraki place is a much better value.

We chose Petraki!Place as the apartment to spend Christmas with our friends who we haven't seen in over a year, and we were so pleased with our choice. For two couples it was perfect as the double bedrooms aren't right next to each other and of course there are two bathrooms aswell. The kitchen flows into the dining area and then into the living room, giving a good sense of space and providing plenty of room to spread out, which was particularly useful as one of our group had to spend part of the time working. The apartment decor is stylish and understated, and we loved the exposed brick walls, woodwork, large windows and ceiling frescoes.
The local neighbourhood is vibrant and bohemian, with lots of interesting shops, bars and restaurants, and it's in a great location for the tram, funicular and metro for travelling to other parts of the city.
We were really impressed by Istanbul and will definitely be returning; a week simply wasn't long enough and we didn't end up doing half of the things we had planned.

Our family of four had the pleasure of spending eight nights in Petraki Place apartment. Tarkan, the owner, warmly greeted us at the apartment and showed us the amazing view from the building's rooftop terrace. He was also helpful in recommending places to shop for groceries and to dine. The apartment is steps away from Galata Tower, located in a tangle of charming, winding streets. Around the corner is an excellent bakery, Sirin Cafe, where you can buy hot borek or simit for breakfast every morning. It is about a 10 minute walk to Istiklal Cadessi, where restaurants and shops abound, and a 30 minute walk to Sultanahmet, the heart of old Istanbul. If you prefer not to walk, a tram station is 5 minutes away. The location and accommodations were wonderful. Upon our return we have happily recommended Petraki Place apartment to friends traveling to Istanbul.

The apartment is very modern with all things provided with a fully fitted and modern kitchen and 2 excellent bathrooms. The view from the (shared) roof terrace was amazing and worth the hike to get there. It would be nice however if there were seating/ tables up there.

The location was brilliant with excellent chocie of restaurants/ cafes and shops all within easy walking distance. The main thorouhg fair of Istiklal Kaddesi is also a short and very pleasent walk away.

All in all we look forward to coming back to stay although will try another one of the apartments which im sure wil be equally great.

p.s. Tarkan and Julia were very helpful from start to end and the booking was great.

Istanbul and Petraki apartment will be in my heart for ever!

Left on 06/06/2011 for a stay in May 2011

I stayed at petraki!place in May with my husband and a couple of friends and we really loved it! The apartment was clean, very tastfully renovated and comfortable. We had a very warm welcome by our host.
It was a really pleasure having a cosy apartment after a day spent around Istanbul where we could have a relaxing dinner all togheter and after drink a glass of turkish wine on the roof top with a stunning view of the bosphorus by night! You have to climb high to get to the roof top but it is really worth the fantastic view.
All together we were very satisfied with the choice we made and congratulations on their good work to Julia and Tarkan!
      We absolutly recommend it!
      Thanks!

We enjoyed a lot our stay in Petraki Place. All was perfect: people, location, design and decoration, view from the roof ;) The weather was very cold and rainy... But we enjoyed because Istanbul is very beautiful and the flat is very comfortable.

Our first time to Istanbul and we hit the jackpot. Apartment exceeded our expectations. Comfortable, spacious and clean.Superb location, couldn't have been better. Very quiet but only a short walk to restaurants, cafes, bars and all the attractions of the city. Tarkan & Julia made it all very easy for us and when we did have a slight problem it was quickly and easily resolved! We will happily recommend the apartment to our friends and family and will no doubt stay with you next time we visit your amazing city.

A feeling of Home in Istanbul

Left on 03/18/2011 for a stay in March 2011

From the time my partner and I booked the apartment until the time we left Tarkan, Julia and Monika gave impeccable service. They were always available for any inquiries we had. The apartment itself was beautiful, extremely clean and had everything we needed, including a hair dryer (which I have had some pretty bad experiences during my world travels). The location of the apartment was perfect---a short walk to Galata Bridge and Taksim Square. We were pleasantly surprised to find one of the nearby streets lined with freshly squeezed juice vendors. We always felt safe at night and taxis were available just around the corner. The street that the apartment is on is lined with some great fashion shops--try Second Chance and Museum of Fine Clothing. A small super market and large Vegetable stand is also within two minutes walking distance. This building also has some great history---I found out a recent movie had been made there. I would definitely stay here again and recommend the apartment for a couple, girlfriends, or family.

Everything was great I have to say because it was a warm welcome, the location is amazing from a design and equipment perspective and you can feel like at home in a second. The Metro is also near by as a supermarket, the bakery and anything else you would need for a good time. I will come back soon!

The apartment was first class, perfectly located, clean and with all the furniture needed. it was good to have a series of Istanbul guides around the apartment to make us ready for the lovely and fashinating city. Once for all, I would strongly suggest to book this apartment! Thank you

We stayed at petraki!place in October and we really loved it! The apartment is newly and very tastfully renovated. Everything was clean and comfortable. We had a very warm welcome by our hosts. We also appreciated having a cosy apartment when it was raining heavily for nearly two days. You have to climb high to get to the roof top but it is really worth the fantastic view.

      Modern apartment with stunning views

Left on 11/11/2010 for a stay in October 2010

The X! Place apartment is very modern with everything you could ask for. It could get a little noisy as there is little insulation in the windows. The rooftop terrace is amazing, a real work out to get there, but completly worth it. View all the sites up close and wave to the people on the Galata Tower behind you. Definitely a spot for a sundowner!

      Boutique haven in incredible location

Left on 10/22/2010 for a stay in September 2010

I would thoroughly recommend this apartment:

      - an incredible location in the heart of Beyoglu, next to Galata Tower, and close to great restaurants, shops and bars popular with locals
      - walking distance to the more touristy Sultanahmet (although be prepared for the hills!)
      - extremely high specification and decor in the apartment itself - boutique-style design, very spacious, comfy beds, modern bathrooms
      - access to roof terrace with breathtaking views over the Golden Horn and the city, perfect for watching the sunset

as well as the flat itself, the customer service before and during (confirming the booking, acknowledging payment, offering advice, greet on arrival) was impeccable.

      Fantastic location and good value

Left on 10/21/2010 for a stay in October 2010

We had trouble finding a hotel in Istanbul on short notice and finally contacted Istanbul!Place about one of their appartments. That one was not available but they told us about this newly renovated appartment which had not been put on their website yet. It looked good on the photo's, so we decided to rent it for three days. We were both very sorry that we had not booked in for three weeks!

The location is fantastic, on a narrow street (lively during the day, quiet during the night) just next to the Galata square. Everything is very close by, restaurants, bars, supermarket, tram (5 min walk), metro (5 min walk). We also slept one night in a hotel in very touristy Sultanahmet, and we both much more preferred the Galata area.

The appartment had just been renovated and was very clean, very comfortable and very big for just two persons! Ideally you could use it for two couples as it has two bedrooms with a double bed and two very large bathrooms (with floor heating!). We loved the original painted ceilings, brick walls, wooden floors and thought that had been put in the decoration. The only thing we missed was instructions on how to use the heating system, TV etc. After we had asked for this information, we rceived it promptly.

There is a common roof terras with fabulous views to the Golden Horn and the Bosporus, so there is no need at all to pay the entrance fee to the Galata tower... Otherwise the terras was just an empty space when we visited (no chairs or anything), but maybe that was because of the season. Also, on arrival, don't be shocked about the common entrance, which dark and shabby. It says nothing about the appartment itself and the location.

Communication with the owner (by email) was very efficitent and also the contact the with family members taking care of the matters locally was very pleasent.
