“Hot at night” The first night was great. But the next morning when we left the condo, we followed instructions to turn the air down and it was never the same after that. We made sure the doors were shut tight. It took about 2 hours for the rooms to get down to a comfortable temp and every night we slept with no covers on because it was too hot. Seems like the air needs to be checked. We were afraid to leave our sliders open even for a little bit becuse it took so long to get the rooms back to a comfortable temp. Also, I see no reason that the kids can't use a kid-sized floaty ring in the pool and I even saw a man sipping a soda at 10 in the morning get reprimanded and told to take his beverage out. The pool was too strict this time making it kid and family-unfriendly. Also, it would be nice if the landscapers with their mowers and blowers could work around the pool hours. We used the pool exactly 1x during our stay. :(

Pali Ke Kua #241 - Top Floor Ocean and Mountain Views, Bali Hai sunsets, A/C

Princeville apartment

  • 1 bedroom
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 4

“A nice property but crowded and hot” I really like the location of the Pali Ke Kua condo's. Easy walking distance to the princeville beach, view of the ocean and easy access to a walking trail. We stayed in unit 241 which was clean and very nice inside. A little worn in places but overall very nice. Another positive is the 1000sq feet and the two beds in the second bedroom making it perfect for a family with more than one child. On the downside the Pali Ke Kua is a very high density condo building that was built before insulation was required so get used to hearing your neighbors talk, shower, flush their toilets etc. If they come home drunk you get to enjoy that also. I've stayed at the Pali Ke Kua twice and both time I have thought the value is excellent considering the views and location. Just be aware it isn't the most quiet location.

“spoiled” my husband and I had a GREAT time here, the house was beautiful and comfortable. The beach was great for walks and photos. We watched whales from the beautiful lanai. The beds, sheets and towels were very nice quality. This Island is spectacular, so much to see and do and having. a great place to go back to after a long day of sightseeing made it even more special. We spent the remainder of our vacation on the big island and we were very disappointed and actually tried to re-rent this house but it was booked.....this is where spoiled comes into play. Can't wait to go back and do plan on renting this beautiful house again. Thanks for a most memorable vacation!!!

“Time in paradise” We all enjoyed to stay in this beautiful house in awesome location on Kauai . House has everything that you may need , from stuff to bake cupcakes to soft boards , beach chairs and toys for children . During our stay we had planty of time to check the whole island and can say that Princeville has the best views , beaches and it is the best place to be on the island. If you have a car it's 5-7 minutes ride to the mist beautiful Hanalei beach or also amazing Anini beach. I highly recommend this property and want to be back here the next year !!

“We loved the Hanalei area and can't wait to return.” The Kauai Tree House is an exceptional experience. Our family really enjoyed the openness of the house, the wonderful tropical breezes, and the sounds of the birds, the rain, the frogs, etc. The dogs in the kennel - across the river from the house - bark at different times and that can be annoying when you're trying to sleep, but we acclimated to them quickly and hardly noticed them by the time we left. The kitchen is well-stocked, expect that there was no coffee pot. For a group of caffiene fiends, that was a problem. The house is extremely well-located, with easy access to all of the wonderful beaches and hikes in the Hanalei area. We had a wonderful time here and look forward to returning. Please buy a coffee pot by then!

About Kilauea

The Puna district of Hawaii's Big Island is best-known as the place to be if you want a glimpse of traditional island life. Anchored by the historic city of Pahoa, the Puna district is not overrun by tourism the way that many other parts of the Big Island are. It is located in the easternmost corner of the Big Island, and is separated from neighboring regions by a rugged natural landscape highlighted by dense groves of papaya trees.

Some of the most popular attractions for visitors to the Puna district of Hawaii include:

  • Kehena Beach: A black sand beach that was once one of the district's most popular attractions is today largely a historic curiosity. In 1975, a powerful earthquake rocked the Big Island, which dropped the beach's elevation by three feet. Today, it is an excellent place to enjoy a rugged hike if you're brave enough to venture down the cliffs to the coastline and offers outstanding views of the ocean for those who aren't.
  • Isaac Hale Beach Park: This beach park is one of the most popular attractions in the district. If you're coming to the Puna district to surf, this is where you'll want to be.
  • Highway 137: Often compared to the legendary Road to Hana in Maui, Highway 137 leading into Puna is one of the most scenic drives in all of Hawaii.
  • Ahalanui Park: With swaying palms and beautiful ocean views, Ahalanui Park is the perfect place to come for some quiet, peaceful relaxation. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a day in the sunshine.
  • Lava Tree State Park: A looped trail winds its way through the dense jungle, filled with rare orchids, bamboo trees and vines. Lava Tree State Park offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with Hawaii's natural splendor.

For your stay in the Puna district, book your very own vacation rental instead of a cramped hotel room. Vacation rentals offer all the amenities of home, beautiful views of the Hawaiian coastline and landscape, and are perfect for families, groups, and couples alike.

If you want to explore more of the Big Island, Puna borders on the lively, colorful southern district of Ka'u and the idyllic, serene South Hilo district.
