“Home away from home” I own my own business, so any time away is especially precious. Kilkelly's West Wing Cottage was the perfect fit. Unlike the institutional feel of a hotel room, the West Wing is like a home away from home. Immediately, we felt comfortable and relaxed. The rooms were exceptionally clean and well kept. The rooms were equipped with every possible item anyone would need, even a tea kettle and grill accessories for the gas grill. The commercial like ice maker was an unexpected surprise. They even provided a small cooler for day trips. Normally in a hotel room, I am loathe to touch anything and notice the dirt and traces of previous guests. Immediately you can see how clean and welcoming the West Wing is - I had no hesitation using any of the amenities. We are very picky travelers and the West Wing exceeded our expectations. The breakfast casserole was so good I even got the recipe! There are several televisions with satellite, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc - available but we never even turned them on. It was so relaxing enjoying the sunrise, sunset and mountain views, we had no need for the outside world. We would not hesitate to come back and highly recommend the West Wing! :)

“Beautiful cabin and view” The drive to the cabin was fairly easy since the road is paved. However, the turn in to the private drive was tricky for our Chrysler Town and Country minivan. We couldn't make it in one turn and had to stop and backup a little then put it back in drive to make the turn. Also, any time we left the cabin we had to backup and put it back in drive a couple of times before we could get turned around. Smaller vehicles will probably not have this problem. The cabin is beautiful with all the large windows and so many gorgeous logs! We loved sitting out on the deck looking at the mountains and listening to the nearby creek. We wished a few more trees had been cut down, but were happy for those that had been. We understand the sun could be a problem since there are no blinds in the kitchen or living room and we had the sun in our eyes every morning. I would recommend some of the small pull down blinds for those windows. The decks are awesome and provide a ton of space, but we wish there had been more furniture on both decks (there is none on the lower level where the hot tub is). The hot tub and sauna were amazing. The upstairs guest bathtub is wonderful, as is the shower downstairs. There needs to be more bath/hand towels and washcloths in all bathrooms. I would recommend towels on the lower level specifically for use with the hot tub/sauna. We had fun playing pool and the table is in great shape. As much as we loved the cabin there was one thing that would keep us from going back...the beds. Not everyone slept well and when you are somewhere for a week rest is important. We realize bed preferences are very individualized and others may find them more comfortable than we did. Lastly, the reservation process and picking up/returning keys was very easy.

“Awesome Cabin!!” My husband and I rented this property for the July 4th weekend. His sister and her husband traveled with us. At first we thought we were going to the end of the Earth, but after finding the cabin we were all very pleased. It was very nice! Clean, spacious, and private. Giving each couple their own bedroom and bathroom. Best of all, Liz, is an amazing hostess, checking in with us daily to be sure everything was perfect. I would highly recommend this cabin for a nice relaxing weekend.

“Awe Inspired!” The cabin was wonderful. The Bison feeding was so much fun ,one of the Alpha males had such an assured look in his eyes it was almost regal. The bison burgers were to die first! While in the hotbed which is really nice BTW, we looked up and the sky looked like God himself filled the entire sky thick with glitter that's how many stars there were.When my dog went out here came the grey mini pony and my dog licked it's nose, I think they wanted to elope....LOL The Mtn Goats & Liamas were fun as well. We couldn't remember the last time we were so relaxed. We love Bison Overlook Lodge & we will be back!

“Cozy Cottage” We stayed at the lovely Red Gate Cottage in November for 4 days. It was perfect for 6 girlfriends on a get away. It has everything you could possibly need and the grocery is just down the road. We were unable to utilize the fire pit because of the burning ban but the fireplace was on while we were there and it just made it all the more cozy. There is so much to do in the Asheville area. We spent 3 days visiting the Biltmore during their Christmas event which was money well spent, but there is so much more to do there and the Red Gate Cottage is central to it all. Georgia was so thoughtful with the wine, cookies and leaving the lights on for our after dark arrival. The only downfall is that there are not mountain views but everything else is absolutely perfect. We'll look forward to staying here again in a heartbeat!

“The best of the best” I have been visiting and staying in rental places in Western NC for many years and the Kilkelly Cabin has no peer. The cabin is perfect and the views other worldly but the best part of the experience are the hosts. Joanie and Gary made sure our stay was more than we ever could have imagined. We celebrated my son's graduation from App St, my Mom's 80th birthday and Mother's Day all in one spectacular long weekend. It literally could not have been better. 5 stars are not nearly enough. “Absolutely Relaxing” This cabin is so relaxing to stay at. The sound of the river right outside puts you to sleep at night. We slept with the windows open all nite. The Pictures do not do this cabin justice. The stone walls are something to behold. The kitchen has every appliance and utensil you could ever use all you need is your food. The beds are comfortable. The owners have gone out of their way to make sure you know of all the local area hiking, boating and restaurants that are available in the area. We really would love to stay here again. It is off the beaten path and once you get there you never want to leave.

“Wish I could live here!!!” My husband and I stayed here for an extended weekend with our five year old son. We have stayed in numerous cabins throughout the Boone area and this one is by far, the best one yet! The cabin has all of the amentities of a home, just bring your clothes and some food and you're all set! The cabin is very comfy, tastefully decorated and in a perfect location. We were far enough away from Boone to truly relax yet there is a grocery store five minutes away. We grilled out each evening on the wonderful wrap around deck. The sunset view from the deck and hot tub are absolutely amazing! I wish I could experience this every evening! My son fell in love with the hot tub, we could not get him out of there!! We truly appreciate the little things about this cabin. There were fun games, Netflix access (which was great for our son!!), etc. My husband was impressed with the surprise beer he found waiting for us and I enjoyed the complimentary wine :) This is truly a home away from home. I was very sad to leave and we will definitely be back, hopefully very soon :)

“A great cabin with an awesome view.” The Above the Clouds Retreat is truly a beautiful mountain cabin experience that you want to return to again and again. We have rented many cabins in the mountains over the years and I must say, this is the one we've enjoyed the most. The screen porch with very comfortable seating overlooking an awesome view of the Smokies is perfect for total relaxation. The cabin is beautifully decorated and has all of the amenities of home. Joanie is a great gal who truly cares about her cabin and does her utmost to provide a great vacation experience for her renters. We plan on returning as soon as our schedule will permit.

“Wonderful historic home, beautifully decorated and spacious enough to host many guests.” It was a dream come true to stay in a historical home. The property was tastefully decorated and maintained the feel from an earlier era, but yet had all of the modern conveniences we enjoy today. It was a joy to wind up the driveway each day line by the rock wall to the spacious home that awaited us. The nights were cool enough to doze of to sleep each evening by the warmth of the fire place. And the accommodations and rooms were ample enough to have family and friends as overnight guest without feeling squeezed for space. Further, we hosted several more guests for multiple dinners with ease. The spacious home provides inviting places inside and out for parties to dine and recline.
