'Ilima Beach Cottage (ORANGE STUDIO) at Owen's Retreat

Waialua studio

Studio / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Remote, quaint just outside the crowds of North Shore” Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Orange Cottage at Owen's Retreat. Yes - it could use a little "sprucing up" like others have mentioned. This is not some swanky beach cottage. But we weren't really looking for that. It was peaceful and intimate. The ocean is literally feet away. The beach directly out front is not swimable - but drive either direction a few minutes and you have all kinds of beaches to swim at. 10 minute drive to the shops and restaurants of North Shore. The airplanes and helicopters were not an issue - it all stopped at night time. The caretakers were very sweet and around if you needed them.

“A great place to be when you need a break” This vacation home is perfect for people who loves to relax because it is close to the ocean, fresh air, nice convenient house, lots of flowers around the house to enjoy, fruits (like oranges, papaya), at the back of the house, not far from downtown, lots of crabs to eat, and best of all, warm, accommodating and hospitable hosts. You will feel at home for sure.

“Hawai'i Doesn't Get any Better” We've been staying at Mokuleia Beach Colony for over 30 years and this is one of the best units there. It's quaint, very clean and wonderfully decorated. The lanai (front porch for you main landers) is maybe the best location in all of Hawai'i to watch a sun set. We can walk on the beach to the east for almost a mile before we get to the first houses in town (Waialua) and all there is are horse pastures and forest on our right and ocean on our left and some amazing snorkeling and swimming holes. I've been finding my favorite Green Sea Turtle, most mornings for several years, about 100 yards off shore, sleeping under a large coral head. The swimming pool is great and there is a super tennis court. This is old "Country" Hawai'i. It doesn't get any better.

“Great way to "see" the real Hawaii” We enjoyed the sunsets, watching the surfers, close to the many activities available. We enjoyed the walks, swimming pool and watching for the whales. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the ocean. It was great eating at the small restr. and talking to the local people. Enjoyed their local markets. Just a great way to spend a vacation. Must have a car to get around.

“It was a wonderful, and peaceful place to stay” The condo is bright, clean and well equipped. The view of the ocean is incredible. I found it pretty quiet building and the BQ area was always very clean for use. There is the most perfect playground just across the street, and also a beautiful sandy beach for swimming and snorkling. The turtles are seen every day on shore. Mark gave perfect directions from airport to condo, so that helps for first time vacationers. The condo is 3 miles from the town where you can pick up groc., good bus system. Because we were there for long period of time we purchased most of our groc's at Cosco. We purchased a bike at Walmart, as there is an excellent bike trail right from the condo, my husband did 1200 miles in 2 months on his bike. I would recomend the condo to anyone.

“Vibe” This place is appropriately described with regards to amenities, etc. It's cozy, comfortable and has everything you want, need or didn't have room for in your luggage. But what can't be described is the feel - it just feels spot-on - it feels Hawaii, and it most definitley feels North Shore. We went in early June, the surf was small by North Shore standards, but perfect for mortals. This time of year was great for us because, without the big surf hype, we had the area to ourselves (especially during the week) to enjoy with with locals. We surfed, we snorkled, we hiked, we hung out .. and so many hanging-out options - inside on the couch, under the fans; on the roof-top as the sun rises, in the lanai, on the lawn chairs, on the hammock, on the beach - or (as i did), ride out a passing rain shower in that grass hut lean-to thingy (that probably has a name) on the beach. One other note - The owners were not there during our stay, but the in-area manager was super-responsive, friendly and helpful!

“Amazing!!” My family of five just returned from a week at this beautiful home and it can only be described as - amazing. My husband was born and raised in Hawaii and the first night was completely overwhelming for him due to the sound of the waves reminding him of his childhood. My 3 little ones literally lived on the beach and begged (which we obliged) to go to the beach each morning and afternoon. Due to the location, the beach is practically secluded - we literally had the beach all to ourselves - unheard of in Hawaii (especially Haleiwa). The home had all the amenities you would need: in the TV room (cable and lots of recent and nostalgic Dvds), in the kitchen (every utensil and appliance you would need for any occasion...we were able to find a rice cooker!!), in the family rooms (your own personal library), too much to list...but just know if you think it, they have it...oh yeah and there's a dyson just in case you're an OCD mother like me!

“Perfect Getaway for a Relaxing Vacation” This villa was perfect for us. My parents, my husband, and I had an amazing vacation on Oahu at the Ko Olina Beach Villas. This particular villa is furnished beautifully with a gorgeous kitchen, top notch appliances, fantastic proximity to the beach, spas, restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again. The onsite staff were so helpful and kind, and the grounds are very well maintained. I would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a great value with an ocean and pool view, included parking, easy walk to the beach, and wonderful accommodations throughout the stay! Booking was easy, and the owner and her assistant were a pleasure to work with. The personal touch of having a greeter meet us in the lobby was very welcoming. Thank you for helping us have a memorable family vacation!

“Perfection in Paradise!” Ryan & Darlene's penthouse Ko Olina Beach Villa on the 14th floor is nothing short of first class luxury. Every amenity has been taken care of from the beautifully furnished two bedroom, two bathroom unit to the high tech kitchen with sub-zero refrigerator to the wireless internet & cable TVs. Even the swim gear is ready for snorkeling in the nearby lagoon! The views from the patio/balcony are breathless as we watched the sunrise and sunset over the blue Pacific Ocean each morning and evening. We took advantage of the gym, which had much nicer equipment than our paid gym membership back home, as well as the lap pool & spa and the kids pool. The close parking and private elevator up to the penthouse was also a nice feature (only one other unit on the floor, very quiet!). Ryan & Darlene are extremely gracious hosts/owners and will treat you like you're their friends. They will make you feel comfortable and make sure everything is taken care of during your stay. Blayne and Eric will also go out of their way to make sure all of your needs are taken care of during your visit. The photos on the site really don't do the condo true justice. It's much, much nicer than words or photos can ever describe. Don't take my word for it though. Go see for yourself and enjoy perfection in paradise at the Ko Olina Beach Villa.

About Waialua

With some of the best cuisine on the island of Maui, miles upon miles of sandy white beaches and unbelievably friendly locals, the Hawaiian town of Waialua has it all! Enjoy the beach related attractions found along the North Shore, sample some of Hawaiian cooking found at the island's best restaurants on the main street, Haleiwa, or go shopping at the high-end boutiques and outdoor malls on Goodale Avenue.

Be sure to make time for some of these activities in Waialua that have made the town such a popular vacation spot:

  • North Shore Surf and Cultural Museum: This museum gives visitors great insight into the history of surfing and features a range of surfboards dating as far back as the 19th century.
  • Go to the Beach: Spend some time on the areas sugar white beaches. Haleiwa Army Beach and Kawailoa Beach are just two of the most popular beaches in Waialua.
  • Go Skydiving: Several local companies will take you 20,000 feet in the air with an experienced instructor for a tandem dive overlooking the beautiful scenery that you won't soon forget.

There are plenty of other things to do in Waialua besides relax on the beach, including attending one of the many major festivals in and around the area. Sample hundreds of local flowers and plants at the Haiku Ho'olaulea and Flower Festival in March, watch movies from the best Hawaiian filmmakers at the Maui Film Festival in June, or go on a whale watching tour during the Whale Day celebration in February.

No matter where you want to stay in Waialua, there's a vacation rental that will meet your every need. Rent a luxury condo just steps from one of the beaches in town, or book an apartment within walking distance of all the stylish restaurants and trendy boutiques.

If you have some extra time to explore, there are plenty of great day trip options on the island of Maui that can be reached in two hours or less by car. Spend a day sampling world-class shopping in Kailua, or visit the picturesque views found throughout Lahaina.

NAUPAKA BEACH HOUSE at Owen's Retreat
Beachfront Family Getaway

The property was clean. The White House is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath home with full kitchen. It had all the comforts of home with the beach right there. We celebrated our daughters 16th birthday and also rented the pink cottage for our guests. The sunsets were beautiful, we ate, drank, fished, swam, and had a great family weekend. The caretakers were great and the Owner was easy to communicate with. We will be back soon!see more

Truly, A home Away from Home

If you are looking for a place like home search no more. The host family are warm and personable. Their home is one block form a great beach and park. Close to activities of the North Shore Area. The large rooms offer mountain or ocean views. Nearby shopping and many restaurants. I recommend Island Paradise Home and look forward to visiting again.see more

A little piece of heaven

We wanted a peaceful, romantic, private escape for our 10th Anniversary and couldn’t have picked a better location! Our jaws dropped when we first arrived at this beautifully furnished condo. The listing photos are great but you really need to see this place in person to truly appreciate it. With the ocean just 20 feet away, this is the perfect spot to experience the quiet, local side of Oahu. We saw sea turtles every day and loved how everyone in the community gathered on the sea wall every night to watch the sunset. We also really appreciated the fact that the condo was fully stocked, allowing us to pack light and still enjoy all the comforts of home. Even though the condo offered Wi-Fi and cable, we left our laptops at home and never turned on the TV. Trust me, you don’t need television with that incredible view! If you can manage to peel yourself away from the condo, Haleiwa is a short 7 minute drive to great restaurants, shopping, food trucks, etc. We came home feeling relaxed and stress free, and dreaming of returning someday.see more
