“A Magnificent stay in the Great Smokey Mountains!!” We had a lovely time visiting your cabin! The panoramic views were breathtaking!! There were many options for us to relax. Indoors and out there were comfortable sitting areas. A large and well equipped kitchen, and dining area for entertaining. Outdoors we enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit, breathtaking views and starry nights. Your home was beautifully decorated and the beds were very cozy. We were happily secluded but just a drive down the mountain to town if needed. Thank you for sharing you beautiful mountain home with us!! Looking forward to another stay at your Water Rock Retreat!!

“Nice & Cozy” I was very pleased with the cabin & the location. I really liked how it was off to itself but yet it was still close to downtown Cherokee and the casino. Would recommend this cabin for a nice place to stay.

“We loved every minute of our stay.” This cabin is just beautiful! We spent a week here. Mornings found us on the front porch enjoying the mountain air and the music of birds singing. It's a perfect location for just relaxing, bird watching or to set out on mountain adventures! Mingo Falls is nearby and the stunning view will have you wanting to stay for hours! Tom Branch, Juney Whank, Soco and Meigs falls are also nearby and all beautiful! We had several meals at the cabin and found all the pots, pans, utensils and table settings needed. It's a short drive to many restaurants and we located a Ruth's Chris restaurant on the Cherokee Indian Casino grounds for a special birthday celebration. I would highly recommend the Climbing Bear Creekside Cabin for anyone wanting to have an unforgettable mountain vacation!

“Mr.” The place was very nice. You could hear the owners walking around and talking upstairs. I did expect clean towels and wash rags every day but we didn't get any. May have been my fault because I didn't ask. The owners were very nice and said if we needed anything to just ask. We did enjoy ourselves.

“The Total Package” This cabin had everything and more! So pleased that it lived up to the photos and previous reviews! The owners thought of everything when it comes to outfitting the cabin from hangers in the closets to smore forks for the fire pit. It was clean, cozy, comfortable, and quiet. Just what we needed. The view on the back porch was perfect. The location is far enough out to be quiet but close enough to run into town for dinner plus. We utilized most everything in the cabin. We cooked on the grill, used the hot tub, made smores at the pit, played games, played pool, and cooked meals in the kitchen. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and more. Laundry was also completed before we left. I'm so glad I canceled another reservation to book this cabin. With 3 bedrooms and each having their own bath made a huge difference in our trip. We could all shower at the same time and still had plenty of hot water. Reservation process was simple and easy. Nice people to deal with and answered all my questions quickly. Our kids (son 17 and daughter 24) have asked to come back to The Smoky's and stay in this same cabin. Thank you for sharing your home with us! We made priceless memories!

“Spacious and quiet” I have never rented a cabin before so I do not have a reference point. I have an extended family visiting us and hotel rooms just did not seem feasible for us. The owner, Jim, was very easy to deal with - answered the phone immediately and explained everything to me how the cabin rental worked. We had a small dog so pet friendly was a big plus. Cabin itself is on a very quiet street. It was a little scary driving at night up the road since it was one way road leading up to the cabin and it was a little narrow. The cabin was very close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (I think less that 10-15 minutes drive with no traffic). One thing that sucked (and it really was not a negative towards the cabin itself) was very poor cellular coverage once at the cabin (may be it was just my provider - Tmobile, but, thankfully, the owners provide access to both cable TV and internet so WiFi calling was working as expected for Tmobile). Cabin had no steps (a big plus) and everything inside was provided (linens, plates, silverware, trash bags, roll of paper towels and toilet tissue) - we liked everything about the cabin except one (may be minor) annoyance - the grout between the floor tiles could use some (ok, a lot of) scrubbing. We did not try the hot tub, but it seemed to be very clean and ready. I was ok with pet charge ($25 for the whole stay), but cleaning charge should be incorporated a little differently. We were charged a flat fee of $70 for cleaning and it seems that this fee is the same regardless of the stay length. I would like to see this fee somehow incorporated into the nightly rates themselves - it may be the same price at the end for the customer, but seeing that fee was a little irritating to say at least. Overall, I think we will definitely consider this cabin again upon our return to visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

About Cherokee

Cherokee, North Carolina

A gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a whole host of outdoor pursuits, Cherokee thrives on tourism. That's why FlipKey has a great selection of vacation rentals here for you to choose from!

It’s the main settlement in a 56,000-acre Indian reservation and hosts one of the largest casinos in the north west of America. It’s also a fun educational experience. Why not find your perfect rental home today, and start planning a trip to this great destination?

About Cherokee, North Carolina

This was the ancestral homeland of the Cherokee Indians, until they were driven out by the US government during the infamous Trail of Tears. Cherokee became ‘white man’s’ land for a time until Will Thomas handed 56,000 acres of the 135,000 square acres of it back in the late 1800s.

The descendants of around 1000 Cherokee Indians who escaped the clearances by hiding in the nearby mountains, can once again hold the Cherokee flag high in this north-western part of North Carolina. Today, the land is held in trust and you’ll find many signposts in the Qualla Boundary area written in Cherokee.

The Cherokee Indian tribe also own the huge Harrah’s casino complex and several hotels and restaurants in the area.

Outdoor types will love the fact the town is less than half an hour’s drive away from excellent hiking, swimming and trout fishing in the Smoky Mountains.

What to do in Cherokee, North Carolina

Go back in time to the late 18th century at the interactive Oconaluftee Indian Village. There you’ll find genuine Cherokee people weaving baskets, sculpting canoes and engaging in tribal dances (such as the Green Corn or Bear numbers).

You might also be lucky enough to encounter some roaming Elk. It’s a living history lesson you won’t want to miss out on.

Visit at the end of the March and celebrate 'The Ramp'. This wild vegetable has its own annual get-together, known as the Rainbows & Ramps Festival where you can taste variations of it, along with trout and barbecue. There’s also music and a big BBQ cook-off.

There’s gold in them thar’ hills – yes, they’re talking about the Smoky Mountains. The Gold and Ruby Mines there offer visitors the chance to pan for gold and precious stones, which you can then have fashioned into bespoke jewelry. Go along for a exciting experience just like the old prospectors did!

Top travel tips for Cherokee, North Carolina

Don’t mention tipis – if you do, you’ll be talking about the wrong Indian tribe. It was only western Native Americans who lived in these. The Cherokee people lived in houses made of woven grass and mud.

The town can only be accessed via steep mountain roads, so you’ll need some kind of vehicle or bike to get there. Similarly, if you don’t have your own car you’ll need to hire a taxi to travel around the town.

It’s not necessary—and generally good manners—to tip the Indian traditional dancers and storytellers in town. Many won’t charge, but they’re happy to take donations.

Whether you fancy trying your hand at whitewater rafting, trekking through streams on a horse or trout fishing with the stunning backdrop of the Smoky Mountains, then this outdoor wilderness playground is for you.

Find your perfect vacation rental on FlipKey, and discover more about this historical area.

Way Away Log Cabin w/ Hot Tub near Cherokee & Harr
Vacation

Cabin was just what we were looking for - owner contacted us about hot tub not working and refunded money immediately which was great. Only thing we wished for was pots and pans to cook with. I can't thank Darrin enough for his e-mails with directions and him calling. … see more

Wonderful getaway ! Peaceful......

Nice overall set up. A shovel would be useful for cleaning fire pit. A few blinds- front door and another others missing slats; allows for someone on porch to look in... Facility was clean. … see more
Climbing Bear Creekside Cabin
This cabin is nice, but it needs some things to make it very nice

The cabin has a nice location and it's a nice place to stay, but the gravel road you have to turn in to get to the cabin needs more reflectors for guest coming in at night. The walk way to the steps is very uneven and the four of us almost fell at different times. The 13 gal. limit on garbage is ridiculous and that a $15.00 charge if you go over it and don't carry it to the dump. There is no directions to where the dump is located. The hot water heater is either to small or one element is burnt out. Two people could not take a quick shower , because the water would turn cold. The owner needs to install handicap bars on both showers to make them safe for seniors. I owned a cabin in Pigeon Forge and these problems need to be address and then he would have a great cabin. At this time i would not recommend this cabin to a friend, i'm sorrysee more
Water Rock Retreat in the Great Smoky Mountains
Amazing view and utter seclusion

A bunch of friends and I headed up to Water Rock to celebrate Labor Day weekend together and we couldn't have wanted any more out of a cabin. Plenty of comfortable sleeping space, very affordable. The views from the porch and the rest of the property were unreal. You could see clear to the Smoky Mountain National Park and there wasn't another human in sight. The wood fired hot tub was rustic and a fun and unique experience for us. And much to our surprise it worked fantastically (we were skeptical). The cabin is out of the way but definitely not too far from activities. We very easily split up into two groups, one who went to the National Park and another who went white water rafting near Bryson City. The casino is very close if gambling is your thing, and the Food Lion in Cherokee provided us with all our food needs. The road leading up to the cabin is a bit scary at night, but the directions provided were spot on. I would highly recommend getting there during daylight hours. We had a blast playing music, grilling, and just relaxing for a long weekend. Highly recommended.see more
