The World Cup begins TODAY(!) and features 32 countries that will compete for the top prize in all of football.  More so than any sporting competition besides the Olympics, the World Cup is a source of nationalism and pride for billions of fans who will be united together over the next few weeks to cheer on their favorite athletes and home countries. Along with fans and players alike, avid travelers who are planning to take their next big trip should also draw plenty of inspiration from this year’s field of teams in the tournament. With that in mind, we have highlighted a great destination for each one of the participating countries to consider when planning your next vacation.

Algeria – Algiers

Not only are the beaches here amazing, but Roatan is located very close to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, which is the world’s second largest barrier reef.

Iran – Shiraz

Shiraz is a beautiful city in the Middle East that is renowned for its variety of gardens and Islamic architecture. Shiraz is also one of the oldest cities in the Middle East and is a center today for Iranian literature and culture.

Italy – Tuscany
